The soviets could also fight the Japanese as there were some major battles in the late thirties in Manchuria. There was also a major campaign right before the Japanese surrendered. One could also play the invasions of the Baltic states while Germany overran Poland

Soviets are pretty cool but honestly my experience with them has mostly been a boring slugfest in which my opponent simply spams cheap squads to basically win by more order dice (iirc 14 to 9 at 1K) which wasn't very fun for me. Assuming they don't abuse this however they can be quite a fun game. One of my favorite matches was when I went to buddy's house and we did Germans vs Russians in a urban match whole Enemy At The Gates was playing in the background. I don't remember the points or army comp for that - I just remember having a super fun time!

If you bring 9 order dice your list is pretty overcosted. Especially German players often get lured in by all the fancy toys, but a lot of units simply are unplayable in a 1k points game, because you lose out on so much desperately needed units and order dice. While German tanks are some of the best in the game, they are too expensive, everything bigger than Panzer IV-H is a massive overkill, and the Panzer IV allready is too much for casual tournaments. Some of my best German lists for "casual" competitions, lets say some store tournament, dont run tanks at all, because as a German player you simply dont need them. for the 235 points a Regular Panzer IV-H costs you could get 47 Panzerfausts. If your Panzer IV doesnt get destroyed and you get the extra turn, in an ideal scenario you get 6x P+6 shots out of it and 6x6 MMG shots for 235 points. for the same money you could get 4 LMGs and 31 Panzerfausts, that is almost 4 times the output of the MMG and 5 times the output of the Heavy AT gun. You dont even get extra suvivability out of it, since it is way easer to destroy a 9+ tank than kill 35 infantry if your enemy just brings one or two anti tank weapons. The only advantage is the added mobility and the psychological factor of a tank appearing like a threat on the table, in reality they are useless in 1k games, since they cost about 1/5 - 1/4 of your army (or even worse if you go for a heavy tank) and will almost never bring you a ROI, unless you happen to blow up a few enemy vehicles. Id rather take 35 well equipped infantry with LMGs and Panzerfausts, since they will be able to score most objectives and cover more of the board at the same time. I mean you could argue that the infantry has a cost of 10 points per soldier as well, but you will need at least 35 infantry in the game, so arming them to the teeth really makes a difference. I personally try to go for 40+ infantry with the Germans, that's why I tend to add 2x10 regular Strafbattalion with LMG, and play them extremely agressiely, while I approach with my grenadiers, vet gren and pioneers. If you play a 2-3 platoon game with 2000 points plus, that is a whole different story, that Tiger II or Sturmtiger or Panther will really cause some headdache to you enemy

I feel like they could've given not one step back to the commissar as a special rule especially since you don't choose if it activates, it automatically does so. Then you could replace it with something like a charge special rule that gives them an extra bit of movement. Could easily be called something like URA!

Well, Soviet Barrier Troops did not en masse shoot dissidents in front of their comrades (it did happen, but not that commonly), more often than not deserters or "cowards" would be caught and court marshalled. But still, Soviet Barrier Troops were responsible for somewhere between 120.000-140.000 deaths of their own soldiers. Germany had 22.500 executions of deserters in the same time, so about 1/6 of that of Russians, so the rule is pretty accurate and flavourfull, but instead of removing a man to execute them on the spot, they could just get them arrested.

Soviet Union consisted of many countries like Ukraine, Belarus, Baltic states, etc. So calling the Union Russia is entirely incorrect since Russia was only a part of it. WW2 wasn’t the first global conflict that Russia got involved. You’re forgetting WW1, Crimean war, Napoleonics, etc. And Russia has been a major superpower since 17th century. Otherwise a fantastic video with tons of information! Thank you!

Im not sure I agree that they are better then the British Army, in my experience the British Army is brutal to face against. Their special traits are far better then the Soviets and their units are also better. Then you have the tanks which while they do have some pretty amazing tanks the British tanks are also pretty damn nice. So im not entirely in agreement that you rated them 44/50 and the Brits just 41/50. Then in my experience the Americans are by far the most overpowered army in the game and you rated them 44 1 behind the Germans. Maybe its the flavour points that swing this.
@wife957118 күн бұрын
only 20 points come from faction traits, this isn’t a comparison of strength. the system is rating the faction as a whole for people looking to get into playing them, not solely their battlefield performance, as he breaks down at the beginning of every video
