Boys and girls, Yaks and LaGGs had mostly wood construction and fire suppression in the gas tanks, and regarded as tough to bring down. Don't think they would explode like that, at least not regularly.

there are no "hit" texts in sim as far as i know... aka no "hit" or "Critical Hit"
