For those who choose to suffer through the wind noise my sincere apologies, I was forced to rely on the camera microphone due to an issue with my audio recording kit.

Under Soviet Doctrine the AK was considered a big submachinegun from their experience of mass deployment of SMGs from the war, they liked the high fire rate compared to slow bolt-actions but wanted a longer range. German development of the StG was in the exact opposite direction, coming from a downsizing of the machine gun and rifle, allowing for closer engagements as rifle caliber range was undeeded in the close urban fighting often found. Two different doctrines and developments coming to fundamentally the same thing, a select-fire intermedite caliber rifle which is pretty cool

An excellent event, have been attending for many years and this was one of the best, particularly the non-aligned countries , so much so that I joined the group portraying the Swiss army. A big thumbs up to all involved with this event.

Really nice video! Can you tell me how long the No5 jungle carbine was used? I know there was a claim that they did not hold zero, however I have not found that to be the case, at least with mine. I suspect the claim was false in order to force a move to SLR type rifles.
@allenprior8573
@allenprior8573 2 жыл бұрын
The No. 5 rifle was officially declared obsolete in 1947. However, it was used extensively in Malaya until it was gradually replaced by the SLR from 1957 onwards.

The claim was true, as the Pattern Room archive shows. Your rifle is a single data point.

@@skepticalbadger While the Pattern Room archive may document it, it does have a conspiratorial tone to it as we know how coniving the Paras, SAS, SBS and other special operations units around the world can be. I do not find it hard to believe that the problem was invented in order to modernize their equipment. Do you know at what distance these were zeroed at? And what grouping was to be expected? Mine is zeroed in, but I honestly don't remember for what distance, I know it's less than 100 meters. I can take it out again and zero it at what was the standard for the times and see if I experience a wandering zero. In any case, it's a cool rifle and fun to shoot! :)

How do you meet UK firearms laws? Are the weapons de-miled or replicas? Even here in the U.S. a real Owens gun would be very rare and very expensive to purchase and not something most reenactors could afford.
