With all respect sir there are some actions you are doing incorrectly. Soybeans need a good stand but 250 000 seeds per ha is more than enough and at the rate you are applying the seed it will give you a plant density closer to 450 000 plants/ha which is too dense. ALSO use a pre-emergence herbicide like Strongarm and alachlor to control weeds from before the emergence of the crop and I am telling you, you will have zero weeds in your crop. Just do not do intercropping with other broadleaf or grass type crops because you will kill them. I also have a problem with the inoculation of the seed with Rhizobium - especially whem it is virgin soil or a field that get soybeans for the first time. Inoculate the seed as you illustrated but also suspend some of the inoculant in water and apply directly into the plant furrow. With this metod you know you will have enough inoculant to do its job. Personally I will cover the seed about 2-4 cm otherwise if it does not rain within 2 days after planting the soil would have dried and makes germination impossible. Also you can have a big downpour of rain that will "open" the seed if planted too shallow. I am a white farmer and researher in South Africa for 23 years now and we have very good yields up to 5 tons/ha under dryland. Soybeans is the most forgiving crop but look out for mining your soil by not fertilising - after a few years it will come back to you and hurt you with a bad yield! Wish you a long and lucky farming career. Regards.
No you need at least 60-70 kg seed per ha for a good stand.
