MG4 EV Malaysia: New challenger for BYD Dolphin?

MG under SAIC is making its official debut in Malaysia and the MG4 is an electric hatchback that takes on the likes of the BYD Dolphin. Built on a dedicated EV platform, the MG4 comes in a RWD setup and it looks like a serious hot hatch. Here’s an early preview of the MG4 before it goes on sale in Malaysia.

Here's the estimated pricing for the M4 in Malaysia: MG4 Standard - RM104,000 MG4 Lux - RM129,000 MG4 Lux Extended Range - RM149,000 MG4 XPOWER - RM159,000 Bookings are now available at MG Malaysia dealers.

I was comparing the MG4 with the Dolphin. The MG4 looks better, but I preferred to comfort features and the better battery technology of the Dolphin. The BYD dealer also was more informed than the MG dealer. I am very happy after 6 months and 15,000 km, driving in Thailand.

Thanks for sharing! The MG4 has the Dolphin in its sights. On paper, they are very close. It all comes down preference and experience. When it comes to software, overall useability and battery technology, the BYD is better.

while the base variant offers better torque, better handling, rwd and looks way more striking than the dolphin, you get a much more dated interior, big ass steering wheel, and overall just a very bland technology in the interior (worse materials too)

I just visited BYD showroom at IOI Putrajaya to see the Dolphin and I am impressed. Now waiting for the MG4 to hit showroom so I can see it in person to compare.

Only the MG4 Standard uses LFP. The other MG4 variants uses Ternary Lithium Battery. The advantage of Ternary battery is higher energy density, but it is susceptible to degradation.
