I have missed your soaps. My mother use to make soaps and she gave me a ton. But all the fragrance has gone in her soaps. I love the sound of this soap. I hope you make more. Look forward to buying some.

oooo. Lovely. I could tell by the top of the loaf it had gelled. Love the look of the green afterwards. I made a soap today that had the worst ricing in my history of soap making. Just wait till you see it.

@@SoyandShea Wow, I've never seen it like this putting the fruit directly with the oils. Here in Brazil we always freeze the fruit (they say it can oxidize if you put the fruit straight in), I'll try to make your recipe and see how it turns out.
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 2 жыл бұрын
@@erichteles27 I am not sure why people say it will ozidize if not frozen. At the end of the day, whether frozen or not, it is still fresh food. The high PH of the soap will protect against spoilage providing you are not adding too much

Beautiful soap. I'm confused though. Your posted recipe lists shea butter, but you said you didn't use shea. You used cocoa butter instead. Also, you said tou used avocado oil, but it isn't listed. I do understand the water reduction!!!

What could I swap the palm oil for?
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea Жыл бұрын
Palm oil has some very unique properties not easily replaced. Tallow is the only one similar. The recipe would need to be altered quite a bit to remove the palm and still get the same results

@@SoyandShea not to a beginner you haven't. Im only guessing then that what you are saying is the original water content was to be 160gr and you used 60gr for the avocado and the rest (100gr) of water...correct??? or no? Like I said I'm only guessing, you know what you are doing not everyone else does that comes to this channel..I want to be clear as to how I can make this myself...Thanks for sharing!!!

When you enter your recipe into Soapcalc, it will advise how much liquid/water you should be using to dissolve your sodium hydroxide. This will vary according to what oils you are using and what strength you like to work at and size mould you have. When you add other liquids, you need to remember to remove that from the amount soap calculator tells you you need to dissolve your lye. For example. if the calculator tells you to use 360 gram water and you have 60g avocado blended with 100g water, you need 200g water to dissolve your lye. Please note those numbers are examples only and not the water I used in my soap. Using Liquid alternatives is definitely not a beginner soap. I would recommend starting off with just water and getting a feel for how you like to soap. Once you are comfortable, then you can advance to alternatives. I would also recommend watch SoapQueen as she provides tutorial videos and also has several books explaining exactly how to use different liquids in your soap
@ImGinaMarie
@ImGinaMarie 4 жыл бұрын
@@SoyandShea I've made several batches of soap and am very familiar with soap queen tutorials, web site and bramble berry. I've also went to a few websites and have researched before even making 1 batch. I also understand how soap calc works for the most part, ratios, %'s etc..my dilemma is that since you are removing a portion of the water from the water/lye solution, aren't you taking a chance the lye won't dissolve properly. I know it is added back via the avocado liquid but in your tut you have added it to the oils not lye/water solution..in my head theres too much lye vs water(in your separate lye/water solution) at this point so how is the lye dissolving??? LOL sorry I'm just looking for that 1 little answer...geez...did I take a wrong turn? I guess I didn't make myself clear..oops 😬
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 4 жыл бұрын
Now you have advised what it is you wanted to actually know, I can now answer the question. In order to dissolve sodium hydroxide, as a general rule, you need a minimum 1:1 ratio of sodium hydroxide to liquid or equal amounts. Soapers often add more liquid depending on the speed their recipe moves at. If a soap calculator says 100g Sodium Hydroxide and 250g water, you need at least 100g liquid (water, frozen milk etc) to dissolve that amount of sodium hydroxide. You could then make the other 150g in other liquids. I do have a number of other videos showing my lye prep
