The Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft landed in Kazakhstan on 20 December 2018, at 05:03 UTC (11:03 local time) with the International Space Station Expedition 57 crew members, Sergey Prokopyev of Roscosmos, Serena Auñón-Chancellor of NASA and Alexander Gerst of ESA. The three crew members spent 197 days in space.

I guess he's already used to it? As far as I know he's the only one of the three of them who's been up in space twice already right? Maybe that's why he's in a better condition. His brain/body is already used to it.
@serghw
@serghw 5 жыл бұрын
@@theresas.1434, maybe so. Or maybe for USA and Russia it some kind of routine already but for Germany not so much, so far, who knows. Or he is just more strong (or younger) than others and that's pretty much it, that simple. Or it's just my imagination. Nevertheless, i'm glad to see how we are working together in space. I'm deeply impressed by it. That is how it must be in others ways of life on our comon beautiful and pretty small planet.

With his service record so far , Gerst was anyway among the top of the list of options for the manned Orion lunar flyby in 2023. He is already renowned for having an examplary physical condition which these pictures underline once more. Now im almost 100 % sure that in the end, he will be chosen to command the ATV service module which will fly Orion to the moon. :-) This would be the pinnacle of his career

Celeon999A so nasa will allow non-americans on that mission ?
@Celeon999A
@Celeon999A 5 жыл бұрын
@@lucaschmidt8913 The Orion moon missions will be a joint u.s/european project. Like the Apollo program, it will consist of four basic elements : The NASA SLS rocket which takes Orion and the ATV service module into space, the NASA Orion capsule which will house the astronauts, the european service module ATV from ESA, which, docked to orion, will propel Orion to the moon and back to earth afterwards, and a moon landing vehicle which has yet to be designed and build by either NASA or ESA or maybe even in a joint effort. Consequently at least one of Orion's crew during on each of these missions will be from ESA.
@Celeon999A
@Celeon999A 5 жыл бұрын
So far, the only finished part of this effort is the european ATV which was completed and shipped from Germany to the U.S in November of this year. And to a certain degree Orion aswell as the capsule is in the final stages of its readiness certification phase. The SLS rocket is in final construction and testing. The moon landing vehicle is still in a very early planning phase. So if everythings goes as planned, the first, still unmanned, and fully automated + remote controlled flight of ATV and Orion to the moon and back will start in 2020. Three years later the same will be repeated with astronauts aboard and the third flight (which has yet to sheduled), will be the first manned landing on the moon since 1972. And yes, of course ESA wants that one of the astronauts who will go down to the moons surface will be from Europe. ;-) As ESA's biggest financial contributor, there is a high propability that he or she will be german. ;-)

Welcome back on earth guys! Coming from Germany I was especially pleased that Alex came back and, as after the trip to the ISS 4 years ago, seemed to be in perfect shape! But that's no excuse for the interviewers to get to him just a couple of minutes after returning from space, can't these people imagine how exhausting this trip must be? Staying in the spacesuit for six hours, feeling 4 g during reentry and these interviewers by "ARD" instantly want to interview him... But as we know him he just smiled and answered every question pleasently, he's just a good man.
