This train toured the United States as a part of the Bicentennial Celebration so this would've been filmed in 1976. I was still in high school and was lucky enough to be part of a group that chased it from Sacramento, CA to Sparks, NV in 1975 as it was headed East to pick up the train you see it pulling in this film. Later, after the Bicentennial year, I had the good fortune to ride on the train behind it from Salinas, CA to Oakland, CA as it was making the return trip to Portland. I don't remember exactly but I'm fairly certain the number of passenger cars in that train was in the high teens.

I was one of the first couple of hundred people to tour the train at the first stop on 4/1/1975 at Delaware Park Race Track. The power went out just as it opened as someone forgot to fill the tank of the generator car. My friend and I sneaked into the site at sunrise to be first in line. We saw Gene Shalitt recording a segment for the Today Show. It was just us, the cameraman and Gene. Just after they finished a security guy saw us and ran us off the property. We returned an hour later and got in line.

I was five when it stopped in Jax Florida in 76.... it stopped by the gigantic Sears outlet on the North side of town. Still have a large "badge" button from it. I wish somebody had it filmed in Jax to see how well it merged with my time-fuzzed memories.

Crimey M They did film it. Someone or several someones did but it just hasn’t made out of the closet yet. Hopefully it happens before it is beyond the point of no transfer possible. I hate finding a film that is just what I was looking for but it can’t be digitized because it was stored improperly for too many years.
