I got this a few months ago and really love the concept. Some tips for Sparkel: Get a silicone funnel, especially if you use your own citric acid and baking soda. No clean up of the machine, just need to rinse the funnel. Also, one mistake I made was pouring the syrup into the plastic container, then carbonating it and leaving the leftover in the fridge. Pouring the syrup into the plastic container really doesn't do anything. Unfortunately, if you use a strong flavor like lime or lemon, it does leave the scent in plastic, and if you use it next time for plain seltzer, you can smell it. Now, I don't put any flavorings in the plastic container, and only put it into the glass I drink from. The other solution is to get extra plastic containers and use them for specific beverages.

Thanks for the tips. Isn't the idea to add the flavoring to the container so you get flavored carbonated water as desired. Perhaps the solution is to transfer the liquid to a glass container that has a silicone stopper and a stainless-steel closure (home brewing bottles) immediately after the carbonation process completed to store the beverage in after it is made.

Get a single Tablespoon on one end, and a Teaspoon on the other end, spoon. The precise mixture of Citric Acid to Baking Soda for maximum chemical CO2 reaction, is 1-1.31. So use a tablespoon of Citric Acid, and a Tablespoon of Baking Soda + a Teaspoon. 3 Teaspoons in a Tablespoon, so you'll be at 1-1.33. Close enough for Government work...

Would distilled water work even better for the reaction chamber? No dissolved solids to pollute the ideal chemical reaction.

Thanks for the review! The only downside i can see to this method of CO2 is that sparkle has a pump to make the co2, which will die eventually. Whereas the sodastream uses the canisters, so there's really nothing to wear out. Still, I like this method better in that you dont have to worry about canisters......thanks again!

You can also infusion water. Cucumbers and Lemon. Or buy the sodastream syrups they will work in this machine.

Glad I was looking into it. Quite honestly I am going to try to pick one up. Don't have to deal with C02 and I have critic acid and baking soda anyway. Question is how much carbonation is it? The more the merrier I say! If I could double the carbonation somehow I absolutely would haha. Has anyone try making carbonated ice? Like will it not make soda less flat? Could even add some sugar to it so the ice also doesn't completely water it down? That's me just making some random theory and pretty sure it would be done if it worked how I just described it.

The CO2 will make the drink fizzy, but you may not get the same level of carbonation. Also, it may go flat quicker.

No, machine extract the gas given off by the powders in separate compartment.

yes, but your drink will contain all the baking soda and citric acid which is gross. the sparkel system only adds the gas from the chemical reaction from the BS and CA and dumbs the baking soda and citric acid in the container at the front of the machine.

I'd say this is cheaper since we bought the ingredients from Costco and they'd last forever. Plus, no waste! On the flip side, bottles/cans are convenient and you have an array of flavors.

Because the machine generates the Co2 from the powders which is pumped into the liquid you are carbonating, the powders never end up in the beverages.

I've been using one for a little over a year and today it just stopped working. No warning, just will not start carbonating the bottle of water any more. Dings like it will, but does not. :-( Up until today, it's been great. but at $199, it should last more than about 14 months.

say your drinking 5 of these containers a day, that is 5 tablespoons of Baking Soda a day, sorry that doesn't sound heathy, while low does can help with digestion and swelling, any more then one of these a day doesn't sound healthy

You aren't consuming the baking soda from the chemical reaction. The only thing that goes into the drink is the CO2 gas that the reaction creates. Now, if it were standard tonic water, yes it would have a lot of sodium in it.

Hope you realize you just voided your warranty. I have both the Sparkel and the SodaStream and for me the SodaStream is still King of the Hill.
