I recently picked up a beat up SP404OG from eBay. I have big plans for this guy, but in the meantime lets see if we can't get it back into working order. Chroma Caps from www.djtechtools.com

Heyo! Thank you for this! What solution were you using to clean the circuit and the encoders? Will this help with lubricating the encoders so they are smoother? Thank you!!!
@sumawav10 ай бұрын
It was isopropyl alcohol! I go to an electronics shot to get the 99.9% alcohol, but you can use whatever iso alcohol you can get your hands on. Your local pharmacy probably has 70% or so and that will work! it won't lubricate the encoders, but it will help remove dust. Ironically, this will help the knob work better, but might actually remove some lubricant. I'm not sure of what lube to use to get the knobs to have that buttery smooth feel.

so i cut the pins too short and for some reason my wick isnt working any solutions?
@sumawav2 жыл бұрын
That can be a challenging situation. Make sure you’re using high enough heat. I use about 850F. If the wick isn’t working, that could mean heat isn’t transferring to the solder. You can add some fresh solder to the pin and then try wicking it out. The new solder can help transfer heat to the old solder and make it melt.

I had a really hard time finding the correct potentiometer online even tho i had the original documentation. When I finnaly got it a wring one arrived without the front two pins. Do you maybe have a hint for me where you got yours? Thx

I got mine from mouser. The sad story is that part is now discontinued. I can’t even pull it up on mouser, and the alps alpine catalog doesn’t list its datasheet anymore. I wish I could give you the exact specs, but for the life of me I can’t remember. What I’ve been suggesting is people get the replacement part from mpc-stuff.com
@martineichler6208 Жыл бұрын
@@sumawav i got now one from alps alpine with the same specs but only 3 pins. Worst case i try to solder two extra pins on that. Thanks for the response

i recently copped a use 404og too, the only thing is apparently its got a busted power switch which is lcukily broken in the on position. Do you know if there's a fix for this?
@barneychapman60073 жыл бұрын
i know i can simply just unplug whenever i want to turn it off, but replacing the switch i mean
@sumawav3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, what I would want to do, is swap out the power switch. The hard part is finding the correct replacement part.

I have a problem my SP 404 powers on perfectly fine all the knobs and buttons work but the output volume is extremely low i can barley hear my samples
@sumawav Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, my first guess is the volume knob might be going bad. Does the volume knob work? like can you turn down the volume so it's silent? Have you tried loading samples directly to the memory card? It's also possible that your sampling volume is low. Try checking those things and let me know!
@gwadaman12812 Жыл бұрын
@@sumawav No, the volume knob does not work. I’ve tried turning it up and down but the output is still extremely low, almost nonexistent. I load my samples directly to the memory card and all my samples are at max volume but that does not fix the problem.

Thanks for watching! It’s called a Soldering Iron. This guy does a really nice introduction to soldering: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKPQdqWtipp4Y80
