At 3:26 4449s whistle sounded like the one from 1990-2012. But later at 3:51 I was shocked to hear the whistle from 1974-1990. In my opinion, I feel like there is two whistles on 4449.

@therealcomputerhobo3 жыл бұрын
My guess is that because this is so old that the audio recording systems weren't the best, and knowing how damn loud steam whistles can be I'm guessing that the closer 4449 got the more static we got from the whistle because of the decibels.

611_NW In 1989 the 4449 had two whistles on it - the SP&S 3 Chime mounted and operated on the engineer's side, and the SP 6 Chime mounted and operated on the fireman's side.
In an abundance of caution, the locomotive seen at the beginning of the video was being used for dynamic braking to assist 4449 descending the Cantara Loop. It was released in Dunsmuir and no longer needed for the remainder of the trip. Thanks for watching the video.

The 4449 also wore a 3 chime whistle throughout the entire trip, which might or might not be from former Spokane Portland and Seattle #700. Or might’ve been from another Daylight engine I don’t remember anymore.
He always posts the same comment saying my name! He’s not commenting on your work (which I never got to say that I am impressed with how you captured these incredible shots) he’s commenting on MINE! By that I mean several of my Trainz Whistle Pack videos. It sounds a bit bogus I know, but I can explain why I did it. Just about every time I sample a small part of any train video I find and I use the audio and then edit it, and make it into a whistle for a Train simulator. If this sounds like I was stealing part of your video, I’m sorry. I know it sounds wrong, but that whistle sounded way too awesome to not be made for a train simulator.

Max Medaglia That's cuz it's not a Hancock 3 chime. In 1989, 4449 was given a high pitched whistle, and here's the reason: During the 50th anniversary of LA Union Station, it joined UP 844, and most likely their whistles would've gotten confused if one of them didn't wear a different one.
@Dinosorable10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but 4449's Hancock 3 chime is deeper than 844's 3 chime and you can still tell which engine is blowing its whistle by looking at the steam shooting from its whistle.
@PeaceyPraps10 жыл бұрын
Shotgun Dude 870 But, I have a problem with that method. Whenever I see 844 of 4449 blow their whistles, no steam come out. I've always wondered why that is.
@Dinosorable10 жыл бұрын
PeaceyPraps Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. I always wondered why that is, too. But there whistles are still quite different. 4449's whistle is deeper.
@PeaceyPraps10 жыл бұрын
Shotgun Dude 870 But, yeah, you're right. They are pretty different. From what I heard, 4449's boiler pressure is higher, and that's why they sound different. For proof, during LA Union Station's 50th, 4449 wore an SP 6 Chime, but due to the high boiler pressure, it was really high pitched and that made it sound like a Reading 6 Chime.
@Dinosorable10 жыл бұрын
PeaceyPraps I know it wore an SP 6 chime, but the Hancock 3 chime was its original whistle, right? So, why did they replace it with an SP 6 chime for that occasion?
