Very nice process of repair. I've had a lot of good results with Tinkercad as a basic modeller - it's not CAD by any means, but for basic shapes and ease of use it's less daunting than most CAD I've tried. Maybe working on an entire octave as a test set, testing it for a few weeks to iron out all the niggles, and then moving onto the remaining keys. Makes sorting out the "red glue" problem I had with a keybed look a doddle!

It just goes to show how much work and design goes into making piano keyboards down to the tiniest detail.

Was neat to see how they actually achieved the weighted feel of a piano

@@JonnyFix Yea. I've always been fascinated by touch sensitive electronic keyboards. I grew up playing normal pianos and remember when they first introduced electronic keyboards which had no difference between lightly touching a key and banging it down with full force. Then they made it so it behaved the same as an acoustic piano, where the harder you hit it, the louder it was. I get it's electronics doing calculations, but the mechanical way they translate that from the key hits interests me.

Sorry to hear you have been struggling mate. I understand your battle. Just keep in mind, that you have great content that we all wait for to enjoy. Keep up the good work! This repair was music to my ears! 😉🤣 When is your next concert?
@JonnyFix3 ай бұрын
Cheers mate! Honestly if I played to an audience they'd be paying me to stop LOL. Never took it as seriously as I should but it's fun to tinker.

@@JonnyFix I played first clarinet in an orchestra for a year, learnt the saxophone, piano and guitar, but got slowed down a bit when I stuck 2 fingers in a circular saw. Fortunately, I can still count to ten without taking my shoes and socks off. That being said, I am distracted nowadays with electronics, KZbin, teaching and writing. But I should occasionally put in some effort. As you know, you get a real buzz when a musical piece comes together. I admire your tenacity making all those key pivots - great job mate! Think of it, even if an audience would pay you to stop playing.....you are still making money! 😉😉

That top bit by the pivot should probably be rounded so it rolls, as that is what the original keys are doing, certainly not a small job.

Yeah might review it later, do need to remove the lateral movement though.

I have an SP5500 that I was going to give away to my nephew but it's been a while since I used it. I remembered why once I turned it on; the left speaker crackles depending on which key I press or how hard I press. If it's the speaker then is it a simple thing to replace? Would you be able to point me in the right direction to the right part? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@JonnyFixАй бұрын
It sounds like some resonance causing some stuff to vibrate. Check there's nothing sitting on the speaker cone. If you press evenly on the cone it should move freely up and down. I think the speakers are the same, you could swap left and right as stereo piano makes left move more for low notes so any issue may not show up in high notes. If you do and it still crackles it could be an electrical problem. Any speaker same physically and resistance should be fine to use.

It's very impressive! I have the same problem on my keyboard and I really would like to replace the broken pieces. I've seen that you have printed them. Would it be possible that you print them for me and that I pay you for the service?! You have the best solution I found until now. I can pay with PayPal or Bank Transfer. Let me know what is possible. I really would like to repair my keyboard 🙏

I'd feel bad selling this design as it isn't perfect. You can get the working files here and edit the design and print your own. It's not quite right for the black keys and and can falsely trigger a hard press on white. I recommend only replacing completely broken keys to extend the best playing experience unless you can better this design. Good luck! file.io/83xNIIlNByyk
