I’m guessing Shout had a limited licence to broadcast the Anderson serials on YT in U.K.? 1999 is still on Twitch in U.K. and internationally. A Canadian viewer on twitch told me he was watching 1999 there because the series wasn’t running anymore at the Shout website, and that 1999 was still available on YT in Canada

SPACE: 1999 S1 viewing order (D) Like everyone else I agree the Series 1 episode order is open to personal interpretation, which is an unintended artful artefact of the Series 1 opus. My preferred list takes into account modern day arc narrative structure and dark themes applied to sci-fi from works like X-Files and BSG ‘03. That said Series 1 was obviously impacted heavily by “The horror of the void” presented to us in 2001-Space Odyssey. 1. 🌎🌘 Breakaway - (moon speed increased as it passed by planets in solar system). 2. “The Troubled Spirit” 👻 🌴 🪕(sitar) • No aliens, No plot need for Simmonds, gives a series arc some time, also a sense of paranoia, isolation. Faith in science jostled, as well as faith in themselves & the future. (NO Sandra/Paul romance yet) Mateo relevant concern for agriculture, food supply “living out here in space on borrowed time” - Mateo 3. 🧊 🥶 Death’s Other Dominion • No need for Simmons in this episode as takes place almost entirely on Thule - and without Alphans knowing the situation with the Uranus probe throughout the episode. (“traveled at unbelievable speed; beyond the then KNOWN universe and beyond”) • Brian Blessed (Dr. Rowland) “We’ve been here 880 years.” “If there is an end” - Jack “The year is 2870. So either they or we have passed through some kind of time warp.” - Victor after consulting with Thule computer. Rationalisation: Alpha hasn’t yet encountered any kind of warp/worm-hole phenomena. And maybe the Uranus Probe X5 is faulty (the HAL 9000 could also have been ‘faulty’, so why not the X5?) Uranus probe spat out by star gate phenomena onto Ultima Thule after going to the universe edge & “beyond”. I’m believing Thule is located somewhere‘s in the Terra solar system neighbourhood of the Milky Way according to a loose 1974 understanding of our galaxy (more or less). The Uranus probe computer calculated a- far-future date according to distance travelled and back - making do with what data it could muster (considering their Space Odyssey like star gate journey) hence the date given by their X5 as “2870”. Also possible a straight up X5 fault. The Alpha X5 never confirmed any of the information given by Uranus Probe X5. 4. 🔵 ☢️ Force of Life 🥶 🧊 5. 🍖 👽🛸 Joan Collins • “Mission of the Darians” ___ first contact. Again, as with Death’s Other Dominion, no need for Simmonds as the episode takes place almost entirely on the Darien space city. 6. 🛸🌍 Earthbound • “Once again I’ve sat in on a command conference…not discussed return to Earth..” - Simmonds “75 years?” - Simmonds 7. ☢️🛰️👽 Voyager’s Return 🛸🛸 👽 8. 🌔🌍🌖 “Another Time, Another Place” “A space phenomenon we do not understand shifts us billions of light years across space.” - Koenig “Another solar system” - Sandra “Billions of miles in a matter of seconds”: - Carter (read trillions of miles at least) “Well it seems we’ve been travelling faster then the speed of light which of course means time might have been affected…” - Victor. “We’re in different space.” - Sandra 9. Matter of Life and Death 🧑🏼‍⚕️(Helena husband - “Helena, we’re billions of miles from Jupiter.“, “Many things have happened since we broke away from our solar system; unexplainable things.” - Koenig (so can’t be ep 2) And an ‘anti-matter’ planet seems more likely after 🫥⚫️☀️. ?? “According to trajectory computer says we’ll be passing by 10 earth like planets per every person on Alpha” - Kano 10. 🟡 Ring Around the Moon 🧿 👽 💻 “Triton: no computer records of any such planet. But I haven’t checked my own records.” - Victor “Triton does correspond to our galaxy charts, but Triton blew up-disintegrated.” (This statement can be used to argue this is pre-Black Sun.) “Triton is over 2 million light years away.” - Koenig (equivalent to Andromeda galaxy distance) “Time is an illusion.” - 👽 probe voice “This is Triton’s universe” - Koenig pointing to image provided by computer. 11. 🦑 Dragon’s Domain • (Cellini needed to go soonish- too strong a character) Dr. Russell writing ‘the mythology’: “Tony Cellini and the monster”: “It was the 877th day since moon left Earth”, “Between galaxies” - 🧑🏼‍⚕️ “We’re light years away from Ultra” - Victor 👴🏻 “We’re billions of miles from Ultra [and Terra system]” - Koenig (again - read “billions” as trillions) But can be argued this opening scene is her writing the “mythology” and therefore chose those words for a kind of ‘Long time ago’ - ‘Once Upon a Time” narrative effect therefore not to be taken literally. 12. ⚫️ ☀️ 🫥 “Black Sun” (Sandra boyfriend dies) Could be ep 2, but some episodes seem unlikely AFTER a kind of worm hole encounter by Alpha. Also seems a little early to encounter such a phenomenon at #2 position. (Koenig hints at / expresses intimate feelings towards Helena) “Somehow we’re on the other side of the universe.” - Victor “A million light years.” - Koenig “Something brought us home.” - Helena Could it be Planet Meta aka Arkadia? 13. 🪐 The_Testament_of_Arkadia “a million light years away from Earth” - Anna (Far side of Milky way?) Fan theory: The phantom planet Meta in Breakaway is actually Arkadia - which was luring Earth explorers to deep space. So I’m suggesting this episode as a post II after Black Sun. This episode reminds me of the BSG Kobol episodes. As we only have the one season , this IMO works best in the middle giving both the arc & series some context. 14. 🪐 🎎 “Missing Link” (Peter Cushing) Koenig seemed genuinely ‘single’ romantically in mind & body with his falling for Cushing’s daughter. So this can be fairly early on. “5 million light years from your Earth” (further away than Andromeda). 15. 👽 🚀 Alpha Child 16. 🏓 👩🏼‍🦱🦿🤖 “Guardian of Piri” 17. 🚀 🔫 🛸🪐🔆🪐 “The Last Enemy” 18. 🦠 🫧 “Space Brain” 19. 🔥👙 “Full Circle” (*Sandra 💕 Paul) ? 20 👽 💭 “War Games” (“John!” - Helena) (Sandra❤️Paul) - Kinda shows by series end the romances arcs reaching their undeniable pairings. 21. 💀👽 End of Eternity - Balor (Death of reoccurring nurse character) 22. 🌄 “The Last Sunset” (Sandra 💕 Paul) 23. ⚪️⚫️🔴 The Infernal Machine “How’s Paul?” - Sandra “Couple broken ribs, broken ankle” - Koenig Kinda implies Paul got injured(ribs, ankle) then from his intense fights with both Koenig and Alan. Even though Paul seemed fine at end of ‘Sunset’, I put that down to mushroom effect not having completely worn off - like alcohol masking the pain. 24. 🛩️ 🪐🌗”Collision course” (Koenig given ultimate purpose/lasting destiny by 👽/god like character) “There’s no getting away from this one, Paul.” - Koenig implying they’ve been through a lot of existential events but this collision has no escape given the laws of physics. And the female god 👽 states assertively “Your odyssey will never end”. So last scene has Koenig & Russell looking out the window at the stars. And remember Uranus Probe Commander Jack’s prophetic & whispered quote “If there is an end.” I don’t regard the ‘Message from Alpha’ as canon as it’s just a one scene monologue, although I am a fan of it. Epic, and so well argued for, but I think A Matter of Life and Death has to come earlier given the formality of the exchanges and the seeming novelty of putting together a planetary exploration party. Collision Course as the last episode is such a lovely idea, but I cannot give up that closing scene with Koenig and the Cross pen at the end of Arkadia. Ara's predictions about Koenig in Collision Course do not come to pass. Great things are not achieved in S2. She might just have said "You will be distantly involved in a failed home brewing project, the way you part your hair will take on great significance and you will briefly be seen wearing a weird cardigan". That is S2.

@@simonjones7727 • Okay, I’ve taken your views on this to heart & managed to move up ‘Matter’ one position! But a significant one. I just feel 1) An anti-matter planet must come after one of the wormhole episodes and 2), That the formality you speak of (real as it is in one sense (only the 2nd episode cast had filmed) yet isn’t significant enough to betray the astronomy & understanding of our galaxy. Also, the formality exhibited in Main Mission when Koenig is assigning the landing party, isn’t evident in the other scenes between the commander, Victor, and Helena - whom both the commander and Victor refer to as such in the other scenes between the three of them. Also, Ken McEvil from chat will never accept ‘Matter of Life/Death’ before Earthbound “Because Simmonds !!!” 😂 When I watched S1 in this order, it blends fine. Even better in the updated position following ‘Another Time…’. As far as Collision Course as the finale, I forgot to add the prophetic Uranus Probe Commander Jack’s whispered vision “If there is an end” from ‘Death’s Other Dominion”. So I feel Arkadia gets its due as a two parter (and when partnered with Phantom Planet Meta theory). Btw - great to meet you in chat. Maybe one of us will make it to the convention with updated scenes to behold. I’ve no plans as yet though now that I’m in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. Very best, Tom ps - I completely get where you are coming from i.e. Arkadia last scene. I admit I’m going against the grain but I’m influenced highly by BSG and 60’s Outer Limits.

Only last night I was at a screening of Alain Renais' " L'Année dernière à Marienbad" at the BFI and could suddenly see where the inspiration for the travelling shot through the audience in "The Troubled Spirit" and out into the empty corridors of Alpha must have come from. Hopefully will meet you and other chatters at a convention one day!

@@simonjones7727•Hi, Simon I went to 50th Anniversary convention. Too many stories to rattle off now. I’ve been using VPN & telling people on Space ‘99 livestream about the adventure. Bought a drink for Carla Romanelli & she hung out & talked at our table for about hr & 1/2. Had dinner w/Giani Garko. He has great stories -especially his rags to riches tale being discovered as an actor. Nick Tate was wonderful & broke the ice for me on convention eve. I escorted Catherine Schell to loo across the hotel. Breakaway extended is profound (Meta a rogue planet on an odyssey of its own like the moon) That’s for starters.
