Terrific quick review of a fun game. It really is pretty straightforward, but the rulebook is a chore.
@nerzenjaeger4 жыл бұрын
Love this game, only downside is, that you _have_ to hate-draft in order to prevent somebody running away with the uber-dominant red arrow strategy.

This one is on my Christmas wishlist. It has similarities to Catan and Dice Forge with how the dice get you stuff which I like. But also the engine building seems fun. I hope the card variety is good enough to not get bored of the engine building puzzle after 5 or so games.
@3MBG4 жыл бұрын
it should be ok for that. Its also pretty quick once you get the hang of it.

Income is a must because of one rule that can be easily missed: when you spend money you spend it all no matter how much was remaining from the purchase. Card powers can break that rule.
@AhJong04 жыл бұрын
Very true, that’s a rule I adore in this game - spend anything and it’s all gone.

Nice summary. Space Base is one of our favorites, especially with the added mechanics from the Shy Pluto story expansion. It's also very easy to teach to non-gamers. With the Command Center you can play with up to 7, and we find it makes a fun party game as long as everyone has a decent build-up of ships within the first few rounds.

Not a big fan of card games but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Maybe cause all the time everyone is anxious to the dice rolls 😂

Yeah, the comment at the end of the video sums this one up. It has totally and utterly fired Machi Koro as a game for me personally. Anyone else also find that? Or what other games fired games so directly for you?

Machi Koro wasn't really good enough for me. I wonder how much better this is, because I really wanted to like Machi Koro

Games about the final frontier are always awesome and if they have dice even better, although I don´t like Alien Frontiers LOL. Machi Koro not my type.

Machi Koro fired itself very quickly, but I do agree, that this is a game I would recommend to somebody who wishes to advance from Catan.

I absolutely love this game! Only problem is that I've never won a match although I usually am very good ad boardgames. Why I always lose? Because I have so much fun playing it, I am hyper focussed on expanding my base and developping the engine to make points, while my friends directly go for VPs... I still love playing this game and probably will not win for a long time....

This is a really good game, I remember thinking about it long after it was over!

A cracking game that you’re bang on when you say “a better Machi Koro” - far superior. Our table struggles at times with the tucking cards underneath, especially late game when there’s quite a few. Rulebook is pretty naff and, again, you’re quite right about the fiddliness of the special powers. Should also say I’ve completely removed one card from the game. In a game of no direct interaction, it boggles my mind there’s a card that REMOVES victory points. We’ve found this to be a massively unenjoyable card, dragging out game length and bringing neither player much joy. We love some interaction in games - such as Militia in Dominion or angry red cards in Terraforming Mars - but it feels completely nonsensical to include just one of these. Should say again, despite these gripes, a really fun game 👍

I had so much playing this game but probably because I crushed my buddy. I really like the engine building aspect. You are correct however in that some cards require meticulous reading in the rule book.
@jeremyfox24434 жыл бұрын
I have no memory of that play

One of my favourite games. There are a few take-that cards, which I can remove. I say it's for the kids but mostly I got crushed by a buddy!

I've never played machi koro despite eyeballing the legacy edition, but I've played space base multiple times thanks to the previous tabletop cafe. I've had loads of fun with friends and space base. Such a fun easy dice game

It's like they skinned a space theme over craps (the casino dice game). Interesting.

I know this is supposed to be better MK but you can cheese this game just as badly as MK. If you focus on buying 5/6 cards with red rewards that grant VP, then you have a steady pace towards winning regardless of who is rolling. In other words claiming those cards alone and scraping by for credits and income is way more reliable for winning. A shame because it reduces the game to a simple strategy.
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
I think thats the inevitable nature of this style of game
@Zilong092 жыл бұрын
@@3MBG ikr? It is fun but man when the one player is lucky enough to have the right ships for purchase on their turn, it feels like watching a snowball get bigger. Ah well. Keep this over MK

I think these are great games for casuals and kids, but once they figure out they can break it, its something you can leave behind. Plenty of folk never will though and thats fine

Don't like music in video tutorials. Sorry to be negative. Have listened to past tutorials of your and didn't notice the music. This may just be me but thought you may appreciate some feedback👍
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
it's part of the format, normally quite back in the mix. I've noticed on some videos for some unknown reason the music is more pronounced on head phones. But the facts are the music is part of the whole package, and drives the pace of the videos along, and has long contributed to the success of the format. Might not work for some, but seems to work for most.

@@3MBG I was actually listening with a more expensive 🎧 headphones so maybe that was the issue as the music was very pronounced. I usually use my ear buds👍
@3MBG2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, its weird and i have no idea why it happens that way at all. Like, to me, on speakers, headphones and buds the music is way back in the mix. And every time someone mentions it being too loud, its always headphones. Some weird technical thing happening I dont get, but definitely not intended.
