Around 2000, as a young kid overseas, I find a 30 second clip (not sure where) of Super Mario Kart overlaid with "Space Boy by Dave Rodgers". From that moment onwards I knew Eurobeat, the amazing Initial D, and even came to appreciate cars in general. This video came into my feed yesterday. I am complete.

Imagine this: at 0:00, the anime opens a shot of the Akina mountain pass. We have establishing shots of various things (trees rustling, skid marks on the road, maybe a tachometer showing an engine revving) at 0:05. Then at 0:18, a GT86 drifts into view and we see the title card emerge from the smoke saying "Initial D: Next Stage". Throughout the song, we learn how things have gone since Takumi and Keisuke went pro and that the series is focused on a new main character who wants to follow in Takumi's footsteps. We learn the mc's name, how skilled (s)he is(n't), if Ryosuke has had his eye on this person as a new recruit for a while, and that the new mc is in a downhill battle as part of the process for trying out for Project D. From there, you can fill in the story with how an episode of Initial D usually plays out
