Why is this starlink issue not being more widely reported?

Where is the documentation that clearly states it is a Starlink Satellite?

I am not an expert on the exact dimensions of starlink satellites but that object was quite a bit bigger than my understanding of them... like much much bigger.
@mrnewman781612 күн бұрын
That's because there's about eight to ten of them linked together, hence the name
@zbubby120212 күн бұрын
@@mrnewman7816 The "link" comes from the fact that they provide a telecommunications link, not because they are linked together physically. It doesn't even make basic pragmatic sense to have multiple discrete satellites physically linked together unless you are doing something like a space station. I think you are confusing when they release the satellites out of the fairing just after launch. They are tethered together within the fairing for transport efficiency, but release after reaching orbit and each perform individual transfers to their terminal orbit from there.
@mrnewman781611 күн бұрын
@@zbubby1202 Never said they were linked together physically. 🤦

What? Do you think sattelites orbit forever? Got some news for you, even the ISS is going to crash and burn one day, gravity still acts on these objects, and they just burn when they enter the atmosphere

They're designed to completely burn up on reentry. That's how SpaceX decommissions them, as they get regularly replaced with newer more powerful and more capable satellites.

What I worry about is that debris is generated as satellites reenter, implying that some lingers in orbit, each with its own new velocity.
@fingsnstuff952513 күн бұрын
That wouldn't be a problem since anything that small would just burn up as it re enters, we are always having meteorites colliding with earth they usually burn up in the atmosphere

Let's launch a few more satellites and watch the fireworks when they lose orbit! There's a ton of space junk orbiting in low orbit! Almost like the Pacific garbage swirl!
