I once made a similar concept, but it didn't fold up and was much more... industrial rather than elegant in design. Outer legs would attach, then my drills would rotate around and pistons would slowly extend it pretty deep. It was for planetary mining that also used a gravel mod that processed into small amounts of other ores to not waste so much stone. It was wide enough and bored deep enough that I used one of the holes as an underground base and built massive doors to cover the entrance. Good times.

It is funny to see this side of a mining design. I never thought that I could make it like that. The reason is Im making a carrier/mouthership like ship, that will have alot of small mining ships either docked or clamped onto the outside or inside of it. Either RCed or player controlled (For the smaller ones) When it gets to a place to mine, then it can just be above the mining arear and use gravity generators to "suck" the debris from the small mining ships, which will go to be refined into different materials to be used into making items. Think like a semi big ship that can refine and build items on the go for use to make other ships, stations, or as trading. I just need to work on the "hiding docking" arms so it wont get destroyed doing the flight. Something that happned on an other big transport ship that I made, which could function as a fleet tanker too to refuel other ships. A cool idea, but the "mother" ship for mining that Im making is still "working in progress" which wont be able to fly in planets, something that the other transport ship failed in. If you want to see the bigger transport ship that I talked about, then hit me up and we can talk about it. I do like the design on that, and maybe you can help me with the "hiding docking" arms idea that I had
