You have collect, drill, and fill options. Select collect option so that what materials you disabled will not be drilled or collected. Drill mode is simple left click drill irrespective of material selection

He is right, you have to go to the work mode in the fill in drill and change it from drill which will drill out everything from ground down, to collect which will use the priority system and when you turn off stone it will not collect stone. I use the system as well and had to go back to the mods page in steam and read it to find out how to get it to work correctly. Keep up the great videos.

A quick suggestion i noticed when I used on the prospector in my game... if you have the dlc, swap out the default cockpit for the industrial cockpit and you get oxygen in the cockpit without compromising functionality since conveyor is on top for industrial cockpit but conveyor is on the bottom

A design i've found to be favorable is to keep your camera near your guns, set further back on the craft, and either above or below the cockpit so that you can peek over or under obstacles to get shots off without exposing the main body of the ship. It also helps to have the cockpit further back and slightly sunken into your armor layout or hull pattern to give it that extra bit of protection. I also use Ravenbolts Gatling cannon mod so that i can actually AIM my guns and not spray and pray. Keep up the good work man :) .

The Rust freighter has a safety feature of when it sees you it'll set the forward movement thrusters to full by way of a timer repeatedly triggering itself & increasing forward thrust to try to get away!

Destroyed light armor and components is an indication of where you could replace light armor or cover components with selective heavy armor.

All three modes explained as you wanted at 4:30 or so @Kanajashi Drill Drilling works like as vanilla drill, cutting out anything inside the defined area. Depending on the settings inside 'Collect Priority', 'enabled' ores are collected and 'disabled' will be spawned as floating objects. Collect In oposite to 'drill' in this mode only ore 'enabled' under 'Collect Priority' is cut out. All other materials/ores are ignored and stay where they are. Fill In this mode the empty spots inside the area are filled with the material given under 'Fill Material'.

Quick tip you can disable most ships rust freighter included without a ship just gotta disable antenna and remote control then lastly the turrets, be mindful of welding turrets back up as that can result in death, also try grinding and welding the gravity as that can allow you to keep the loot on the bottom also you can use this stray for a speedy start

A bit late to the party about the drills, even if you disable the stone it will still drill the stone to clear the area you have selected (the show area function). it was your build&repair that collected the stone. It will drill everything and anything besides ship/base blocks to clear the area. hope that clears it up :) I'm enjoying these videos a lot! Looking forward to getting to S3 that's currently active

@18:20 Problem with the escort missions prolly is with you using the vanilla weapon balance mod. The escorted ships are not designed to deal with that kinda damage incoming with their vanilla light armor.

As stated in the Steam Workshop, While in Drill mode, [enabled] ores are collected and [disabled] ores will be spawned as floating objects. If your Buildandrepair is set to collect ore then the stone will get collected the same way it collects ore while mining by hand.

So from my own testing, disabling the stone will filter out most of stone and even will drilling the drills will not pick up stone unless you are collecting some other ore, I find that sometimes the drills pick up a little bit of stone with the targeted ore, might be a voxel issue IDK. Also I had to disable the picking up of stone on my build and repair as while drilling out a dock for large ships near my base I had all materials disabled on my drill and my build and repair was collecting those materials. I verified it by watching my build and repair's inventory.

Those were decoy buoys on the back of the freighter, you should try using decoys in your builds to draw fire away from critical components, especially since you’re not using the shield mods

disabling stone with the drillsystem works for me. One of the setting produces loose stones (drilling I think) so if you do not disable your stone gathering, you will still get stone even if you have stone disable in your drilling.

If set to collect (not drill) it should not drill stone. If set to drill it will drill it, but I believe not collect it. But then you need to torn off collect on the BAR.

Snub fighter design? make it so your forward firing weapons fire backwards when parked and can be used by main ship, might also want to put on extra long pistons that pop-out/deploy decoys on a detachable magnetic plate .

You might try to just forget the hydrogen tank all together just use 3-4 h2/02 gens so you loose that vulnerability.

Unless, I want to tunnel, I use the [Collect] setting as only the [enabled] ore is extracted and all other material are ignored. I stand back with my ship facing the ore node that I want, check how far it is and I plug that distance in the offset back and forward distance, which can me kilometers away. So I can be hundreds of metres away and collect from that distance. The collecting area is very rarely right in front of my ship... normally hundreds of meters away

Is your regular build and repair on? That might be what is collecting the stone and not the drills.

Instead of jumping out of the gunboat and into the fighter, maybe consider remote control for the fighter instead. Then you can control it from the gunboat. Also less danger to you if the fighter gets destroyed. Depending on your ideas you could even put a projector and welder in the gunboats fighter bay and print out another small fighter underneath.

Yeah collect will "Drill" the ores you select a "-" is enable a "x" is disable. Drill more just drills like vanilla.

Your fighter isn't too fragile, it's just bad. No amount of engineering can make fighters significantly more survivable, they just aren't big enough. A tip for fighters: treat (up) as your main thrust vector, as opposed to (forward.) This way you can just lay on the space-bar and roll to evade incoming fire without taking your eye off the target. Maneuverability is your friend, mass is not. Excess thrusters in unnecessary directions are just dead weight. Heavy armor is dead weight. You want to draw the enemies fire and make it miss. Overall, I think you're trying to make your fighter do too much. Build/repair = dead weight, the same goes for the materials it requires. The sheer number of weapons you have on it = dead weight; you're never gonna out-dps a "capital" ship with a fighter and the amount of guns you have is just excessive. What you have is more of a gunboat than a fighter. A short "how to" for capturing the R.U.S.T. freighter: It always accelerates to top speed once you begin your attack. You need to destroy enough turrets to create a blind-spot, then maneuver into said blind-spot and match velocity (unless you don't care about losing your fighter, then you can just bail out at this point. The key is creating that blind-spot.) Once you've done that can safely approach the freighter in EVA, your jetpack can go 10 m/s faster than grids. After that I can't really help. When I did it you could just transfer entire NPC grids to your ownership but that isn't an option anymore. There's an interior turret in the crew area and (iirc) a timer block telling the (forward) thrusters to increase thrust override. If you don't want to lose your fighter, I recommend a remote control block so you can engage dampeners after you turn off the freighter's thrust override. The R.U.S.T. freighter is one of my favorite in-game ships, I hope you catch it soon! It's definitely one of the more interesting challenges to capture.

While I've never been able to do anything in space engineer myself... I do enjoy watching those who do and many of those peoples with thousands of hours will tell you that armor in space engineers is just horribly broken and the only effective way to get working combat is by using some form of shielding. Especially on small block grids, but even on large ones, armor blocks just can't take the sort of damage the weapons in the game can dish out.

Since you are using mods, may I suggest the OCD compact storage tank mod. I use it all the time as I never liked the oversized vanilla Hydrogen tank. It offers both Hydrogen and Oxygen tanks in 1x1, 1x2 and 1x3 block sizes for both large and small ships.

B&R drill is weird. It will still dig but not gather when you off it. When I put cobalt on off. It still took a liking to cobalt and not dig the gold. The butt of your battery is open too. Is it the wreck crashed into your npc ship?

i find setting the drills to drill, disable stone in collect then turn them off and on again really help cause I can drill out the stone but not collect... If I don't turn them off and back on before hand the drills continue to collect the stone
