The colour of the marker for that Rust freighter was white, that means it is neutral to you not aggressive, that was why it did not shoot at you. Edit, you could have actually captured the whole vessel intact and been set up for a while.

The respawn pod has enough components and materials in it to build a large drill without having to do any hand mining. You just have to be willing to salvage parts temporarily. Doing so is much faster than hand mining since a large drill can mine so much faster. The best way into RUST Freighters is through the window right next to the interior turret. It's fast and gives you safe access to the turret. You grind out the window, the turret, the timer blocks, the rote control, the door to the cockpit, and hack the control seat. Then you group the thrusters and set a seat control to reduce thrust override for that group and spam it until it's at zero; the inertial dampeners can then stop the ship and let you hack the rest of the ship leisurely. That's probably my most common new game space start. I love that freighter because it's so easy to modify in many ways for many roles, and it has basically everything you need for a mobile starter base.

I made a mod that might fit well in your series. It's called Component Compression. It's a balance focused Tiered Mod which adds 4 extra tiers of nearly every major functional block in the game. I went into the design process with the goal of creating reasons for players to NOT use the higher tiers, rather than just adding an overpowered group of blocks that players instantly switch to the moment they have the resources. Each tier is progressively less resource efficient than the last. The mod page explains it in more detail. Happy Engineering!

Sounds like a very interesting mod! I might have to look into this one when I introduce the Anubis into the series, which is like a heavy armor ship that weighs sooooo much so it needs boat loads of thrusters! 😎👌

I love survival pods. Honestly a "personal challage" for me sometimes... is to keep the survival pod, not change ships... instead, upgrade it, expand it, grow it... BUT keep at least parts of it such as the engine section.. the same just adding on to it. i've even added "hanger" decks for small block work craft into them. you can actually make a small block ship, that will fit through doors, so you can add a "hanger" without really changing the ship much. though i did find myself "cutting" the pod in half, using the little workship to pull the front and back apart. so i could extend the legnth of the pod to add in a pair of large refineries. LOL. have something like 10 solar panels per side.

@@TheGarageGamer86 Yep, and the true fun to it is keeping the origional paint scheme, and the "spine" with the o2 tank, h2 engine, that leads back into the 2 ramps... keeping all of that (though i replaced the ion engines with warfare ions. just cuz they "look better" when mounted in clusters, though the top and bottom are still "round")

For making moon fall i'm going to add a h2 thruster on the bottom.... but i've been trading raw ores and such with space stations for what i needed so haven't had to land. At the start, you can grind down your air vent and 2 thrusters (i like to use 1 downward thruster and 1 forward thruster) as well as most of the steel shapes around the thrusters at the back and that will let you build a large grid drill straight away. I normally cut the window next to the cockpit and build it directly onto the survival kit. Much easier than drilling by hand. Just be careful about what shapes are removed with the thrusters. You might lose one of the ramp or thruster pieces on the side if you take the wrong blocks out.

@@TheGarageGamer86 hey GG.. i have a design i regularly create from the space spawn pod (i like pvp servers).. its fully hydrogen converted, and uses a merge block to connect to a full ion powered 'jump' ring, which is the only part of the design that uses nuclear.. (i NEVER use solar panels, hydro only, till i get a main base with lrg refinery/assembler etc).. first thing i do is find ice and cobolt, after merging to an asteroid to remove the 'temperary ship' designation, using the lrg steel tubes from 1 forwards, and one up ion thruster the 'Geminii' pod (because it has 2 distinct parts to the design, the refurbished spawn pod, and the jump ring) has onboard - 5 drills, 12 small cargo, (including the original.. can have more but i find the weight gets too much for the hydro thrusters, especially at higher inventory settings) 12 small hydro tanks, 1 basic assembler, 2 basic refinaries, 12 batteries, 1 small med kit (moving the original), the original oxygen tank, the original hydro engine, 2 O2/H2 generators, (including the original), rover cockpit, ore detector, 2 spot lights, 6 corner lights (up, down, sides.. but can get away with just the 2 sides), 1 connector, 1 camera, 1 merge block, 1 locker, 2 gyros (one for general use, one set up for auto-spin mining), 2 each side, 2 up, 2 down, 3 reverse, 3 forward hydro thrusters. it is 2.5 blocks longer (including the drills), 2 blocks higher, and 1 block wider than the original space spawn pod (fully armoured).. and is around 3300pcu (pod only) and built with zero hand mining i also have a block naming system that adds time to the build, but allows me to know the exact location of every functional block, so i dont need a transmitter if the server doesnt require it, to know where any damaged blocks are

With the mod Configurable Parameters you can omit High Range Ore Detectors, Speed Mod, and No Lightning Damage as those features are baked in to that mod Also, Ore Detectors in Space Engineers detect from the location that the head of the detector reaches. So if you have a 10 meter ship and you place the detector at the back of the ship, the ore detected will be 10 meters further than it says

Those little mine drones are pretty sneaky. Haven't come across those before. Tenacious little blighters!! I would have probably have merge blocked to the wreck and siphoned off that battery to top up your own.. or added it to your ship :D Good start to the series, look forward to more.

9:21 You don't have to turn off survival kit, when you put something for production with build planer, it will put materials for production to the higher tier production block which is currently attached on the same grid. That means, if you have survival kit and basic assembler, the priority goes to basic assembler, if you have all 3, kit, basic and advance one, priority goes to advanced one :D Also, one more tip when putting blocks in build planner, you don't have to do that, take some plates, components with you, lay out blocks where you want them to be, then Right click on them, it will automatically put them to build planner, and then just Shift+click on the conveyor port to start production ;)

Note: shift click takes from that grids connected inventory. To get all connected inventories including sub-grids you need to open up the inventory screen, ensure the inventory filter is on all, and select the take components on the build planner button in-between the 2 inventory screens.

Note that if the higher tier assembler is off. The queue will be put to the next one. If you batteries are getting low and you turn off the assembler it will definitly put the production to the survival kit. So the rule is more like shift+click will add production to the highest assembler that are ON.

Wracked up 2000 hous in SE in 18 months when i had a computer run it, but it died after one of the fans failed and it clocked up to 90deg celsius in the Aussie summer :( Looking forward to watching your stuff

I actually have a pretty funny method of fighting small grid drones when I don't have access to any weapons. Just get a bunch of steel plates in your inventory, then accelerate towards them while holding a large, heavy block like a refinery. Then when you want to break away, place the block and move from the path of the drone. They'll run into the skeleton of the block and take quite a bit of damage from it lmfao.

I assume you've figured this out in the meantime, but just in case: Ctrl+Shift+MMB is in fact to queue 10x your build planner. The key combo you're looking for is Shift+MMB. Same with withdrawing btw. You can pull items with MMB, but you can Ctrl+MMB to pull 10x. There's also Alt+MMB to pull items, but without removing from your build planner. Ctrl+MMB doesn't remove it from the planner either.

Nice challenge!!! 😎 - I might play that scenario. Have been thinking of something similar, only slightly different mods, like included reavers. They are awesome challenge. But for your situation, how would I go about it?!?!--- 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 - You can mine stone and get the three basics, iron, silicon and nickel. Also you can build basic refinery. So I would get that setup, pile up iron, nickel, silicon, and make some canvas, parachute, and get ready for land on the nearest planet with cobalt. again pile up including hydrogen etc, make main ship there and with hydro-thrusters/combi atmo/ion - then move on to silver, gold after that, platinum and lastly uranium maybe even uranium before platinum. - Because starting out with no weapon and such.... The slow grinder in start doesn't help much in combat and btw, I often grind the block that holds the gun-tower to take it out, instead of directly on the gun-tower. That way I am protected by blocks while eliminating the guns. - Nice series. Keep them coming :)

Yeah at first I didn't think it was challenging enough, but in Epsidoe 5 I almost get overwhelmed by NPC's because of my limited ability to get Magnesium lol. Oh those stock grinders are sooooo bad, especially when you are trying to grind down a battery on an enemy drone or something like that, I have also used the trick where you grind down the block the gun is sitting on by going underneath it and it works a treat 😎👌

Now this was fun to watch. This is certainly going to be fun to watch. I started a hardcore salvage SP survival. No drilling and no jetpack on planets. Not allowed to build items except for armor blocks lights etc. It is a good challenge for sure. Looking forward to this new series of yours.

You can get a drill pretty quickly without any hand mining. Get tubes from 2 of the thrusters and hack both doors. should give you the motors and construction comp needed to get it built can do (air vent as well if more stuff is needed). stell plates you just grind down all the armor blocks around the thrusters and around the batteries should get you close. The railing around floor blocks of hte cargo/door area should be enough. I attach it to the side of the survival kit. Mine a bit and you will get all the materials back. For the basic assembler I just grind off that block under the O2 gen and attach it there. also gives you more steel plate. I hate hand mining and skill progression so i just tried to see how much i could accomplish with the existing bits. I got surprisingly far and only had to drill stone to get enough nickle to make a small battery to unlock the stuff under that. I ended up making the space pod inoperable but learned alot.

I figured out how to launch myself right into that little gap on the RUST Frieghters, quickly take out interior turret on the left side of that entryway. Then take control of the ship fly to the opposite side of my base, landing gear and mass dissassemble. So many quick resources that way, plus some good ol' Uranium if your quick enough.

another suggestion is doing the build order of basic assembler off the junction beside the door, then the drill, the the refinery. make sure you can build for the drill, then refine what you get from it. though some people have interesting albeit slightly confusing orders

if you have more then 1 type of assembler on a grid it will prioritize the higher tier version unless you directly use the build planner on a lower tier version. aka if you shift mmb on the kit it will use the kit if you do it to any random port it will use the best option.

this game would be SOOO much better if they had better physics. Just about anything will kill you or blow you up when moving at just about any rate of speed. I had cars go summersaulting till they began blowing up, ships I tried to move a little destroy it's self from a "hard landing" that was just from seemingly feet high and more. The game has soooo much potential too. If the game was more player friendly and less death by gravity/motion then it would be a lot funner.

Yeah the inertia in this game is pretty savage, I do think it needs to be dialled down a touch, with any luck the new Engine that Keen Software is working on will solve a lot of these problems 😊👌

Freighters and stuff stopping for MES is because its further than 3000 meters away, there is a config file you change the sync setting to 15000 in.. took me a while to fix myself.. if you want more information let me know, I'll write out the full deets... im in bed right now (this will also cause more encounters if fixed and you install more MES collections)

Eventually I plan to build a hangar for it, if it survives that long 😂. But yeah the plan is to build two large hangers that go right through the asteroid on each side of the little hangar, but quite far away from the center if that makes sense?

Good to know I am not the only one, but I mean it kinda makes sense for the lights to look more like cool white given that we are in a space and flying to different planets with artificial gravity and jump drives the old "Incandescent type light colour" just doesn't seem to fit the SciFi nature of the game. But that's just my opinion 😅😎👌

@@TheGarageGamer86 what I do to make it fit more is by using the values 200 225 250 with an intensity of about 2-3. I think that looks best for the lights and still fits with everything

The intro kind of contradicts the "Survival" in the title... ;-) This series looks really interesting. Edit: I'd suggest naming the Earthlike planet. Saying "Earthlike" all the time sounds a bit weird to me. You can call it Terra or something if you don't want to make it too complicated.

I think I must have disabled progression in this save, if you go into the load menu and then go into the settings you can just turn off progression 😎👌. I don't feel like it adds anything I want to the game haha.

Oh you press Alt+F10, go into trash removal and then change the settings. Mine is set to only remove grids that are less than 20 blocks 😎👍. But you can adjust it to how you like, there are many options.

dont forget to hack and use enemy cargo containers or connectors to store inventory in while grinding things down at an enemy wreck... you can retrieve the parts later instead of wasting them to item clean up.

Honestly in the vanilla game it's so bright you don't even need lights externally on ships and rovers, one of the main reasons I add it is for the challenge, and you have to design your ship so that it has adequate lighting to do its job. 😉👌
