Space Invaders Speed Run Rules:
* Completed on "Expert" Difficulty
* Single Session
* No special codes
* Suffers Deaths
Space Invaders originally was an arcade game released in the late 1970s, unleashed to the world and loved by people all over. This game takes the mechanics of the game and packs it in with tons of new stuff to keep it interesting.
Expert Difficulty incorporates 10 planets. Each planet starts with 5 waves of aliens, then a bonus UFO shooting level, then 5 more waves. After that you face a giant boss whose life you must drain to nothing. After that you move on to the next planet.
Each planet (after Pluto) also features an "alien of the day" that you see only on that planet. Each one has a different appearance, attack, and gives you a different special weapon. Some are quite stupid (like the boomerang attack on Saturn) while others rock your socks (like Tank Kamikaze on Venus).
After beating each boss you receive a time for that planet (so loading times are not included). Occasionally the game lists a time as X:X. For example, Mars had a time of 6:9. If the level is completed with a 0 in the ten-second digit, it doesn?t display it. It does if it?s in the seconds? digit (Saturn was 4:40 which is displayed in full).
Expert is a touch harder than Normal, being that the aliens move faster, and 2 new planets are added after the end of the normal game (Mercury and Alien World). As like the other planets, there are unique aliens on these worlds with unique specials.
After beating the game on Expert, what you unlock is Maniacal Difficulty. As the name suggest, playing on this level of difficulty is crazy!

@superrobertking18 Yes. On Normal, the game plays from Pluto to Earth, while Expert and Maniacal difficulties plays Mercury and Alien World after that.

@TheKingWerwer Expert adds 2 more worlds and I think picks up the speed of the aliens a little bit. Then when you beat Expert, you unlock Maniacal, which REALLY amps up the speed of everything (it plays all of the worlds in Expert difficulty).

Considering how much they added compared to the base game (i.e a SHITLOAD) this is awesome. I remember playing it so well though fuck the Earth boss :V that thing suuuuuuuucked and I don't think I ever beat it without at least one death

The fastest time I've beaten this game was 42:16, but according to SpeedDemosArchive, the PC version doesn't count for some reason. Anyway, what would I have to do to have my Speedrun completely legit by the rules?

My niece and I defeated the Neptune boss in 6 seconds. Both players have to have double shoot and you just spam shoot the boss until it's dead. Don't even give it a chance. lol

As long as you get good media, the chipped PS2 will play it. I believe you can also play it on the PS1 if you get swap magic, but not sure on that one. I also think that ePSXe can play it (emulator on PC).

To my recollection, it's circle. But level select codes are cheats in a sense, for the purposes of speed running. So thus they aren't allowed and not used.

ACTIVISION should have made a part 2 of this game for ps1&2,but they never did. I like the updated verson of this game cause it has the classic game on as well. I baught this over a decade ago when it fist was released. It suscks that the dips at ACTIVISION did not make a part 2 of this game.Cause now this updated verson is now Classic,so is the updated verson of ASTEROIDS.

How did you get Mercury and Alien World levels? I have the PS1 game and it ends after you complete the Earth level.

Steve Walles if you go to options at the main menu, its there, you can change it between normal and expert, expert gets you to mercury and alien world.
