this happens fairly often actally. the coaster is programed to go into the back after oh so many runs. and unfortinatly sometimes the ride operators don't realise it till its to late. hench the term "out of fuel".

@aquapearl11 Something might have malfunctioned on this train. Such as lap bars, the wheels, etc. Something had to have so they brought it inside to fix it right away.

@legokinz We are Disney, and Walt Disney said it best..."we must always value the magic" So when ever you hear us spiel a comment, it's for a very good reason. We cast members take great pride in working there at either park and that's what keeps our guests coming back. No where and I mean no where will you ever see this at any other park. We do tell the truth, just in different ways.....

I think the cast member was well trained on how to deal with the situation - not blame anything but make a joke like we're out of fuel or this is where rockets sleep, safely get everyone off the ride and get you back to the loading dock to ride again. I wish customer service went this well at the doctor's office.

@legokinz yeah, at DCA in the animation room, they had us exit through the entrance because someone threw up in the actual exit...but the employee told us it was due to "technical difficulties".

That happened to me once. I was on a rocket that collectively weighed too much. Fortunately the ride didn't stop until just after they take your picture...so we didn't miss much and got a pass to skip a line :)

Yep, there are two levels in disneyland. A guest level and an underground, park operations level. Everywhere you walk you are walking above the staff level. your rocket got transfered to the operations level. :)

I'm surprised they let you film it. I got to go "backstage" at Magic Kingdom a few years back because I was in the parade and they wouldn't allow pictures.

I used to work at the Winnie the Pooh ride in Anaheim, and got quite a slap on the wrist for accidentally letting people take pictures while I was evacuating them during a breakdown. I'm surprised you got this. But anyway, very cool :)

this ride breaks down a lot, it seems. I was just there with my orchestra and it happened at least twice. I love Disney, but backstage is where the magic is taken and shot. it just dies back there. but it's still really interesting to see

@MrWutupman the brakes arent on the cart... they are on the track and they contract on to a long flat bar on the bottom of the train which is able to control the speed at which the ride is going to make its stop.

Actually, they may have exceeded the max amount of cars on the track. I was riding the Matterhorn on my last trip in 2005 and because they had exceeded the amount of cars on the track, they put ours off to the side. It was really weird to sit off to the opposite side of the tracks while other people were passing by, getting on and off. The cast member let us ride through again, though, without waiting in line. :)

they mostly did get right back on. when my brother and i got stuck on the mattahorn for several minutes, the cast member just let our car go for another round without us even getting off.

When that happens to any ride at disneyland, most of the time they will give you a fastpass for your whole family, which can be used at any attraction.

When is was there a week ago, they were putting some of the trains away through the left track.

It was because they weighted too much. If there is too much weight in the car it will go too fast and risk hitting another car not going as fast. So at the beginning of the track right before you turn right to start the ride, the computer up in the window in front of you weighs the car to make sure that it doesn't go too fast. If it exceeds the limit, you get sent to the right instead of left.

haha thats pretty cool. i was on thunder mt and it stopped so we had to go through the "backstage" and it had like spider webs and water dripping in places. it was kinda scary.....

hey i went back there! the track is SO far from the ground! thats why you need the step-ladder to get down, i went back there when something happened with the power, and we went on all hooked up but, they took us to the left not right

The one in Florida was actually first. It opened in 1975. The California Space Mtn. opened in '77

The same thing happened to me and my friends. I thought that we were going to see some awesome backstage stuff but the area wasn't even lit. :( I think ours diverted onto another track on the side instead but it was still a cool experience because we ended up with front row seats. ^__^

Even though some people say that this is screwing the magic of Disneyland, first of all this is Space mountain. I've always wanted to see of where they store and fix the space shuttle Rockets. Because one thing for sure, when I was little, I've been a huge fan of the space shuttle from NASA. And I've always wanted to see how do they prepare it for its next flight, after when it returns to earth when it lands like an airplane on a runway. It's cool to see the space shuttle to be launched from the Launchpad from Kennedy Space center in cape Canaveral Florida, and then when it comes back to Earth it lands like an airplane. I also thought it was cool to see the shuttle orbiters being transported buy a 747 aircraft, that if any of the shuttle orbiters land in California at Edwards Air Force Base. Then they have to go back to Florida, it's cool to see a 747 to fly it back home, because afterwards they fix it up, clean it and everything to get it ready for its next flight. I remembered seeing the space shuttle orbiters being placed inside a hanger called the Orbiter processing facility, where they clean it, fix it up, check everything etc. Prepare for its next flight, then they told the spacecraft into a very large hanger building called the vehicle Assembly building. Where they lifted up, and stack it attach the solid rocket boosters and the external tank. Then they move it with a big truck called the crawler, all the way to the LaunchPad. And of course that's when it will go back into space, come back to earth and do it again and again. Because it was the world's first reusable spacecraft, of course the space shuttle from NASA doesn't exist anymore it retired since 2011. But looking at all of those cool things of behind the scenes of space shuttle, looking at this white room where the rocket space shuttle or whatever you call it of Space mountain went into looked really cool. It reminded me of the Orbiter processing facility, and maybe the inside of the vehicle Assembly building. It also reminded me of the astronaut white room, located on a axis arm of the LaunchPad, where the astronauts board the space shuttle Orbiter

I'm sure the cast member either took them to the front of the line to get on the next available rocket, or gave them each some time of compensation (i.e. a card to get to the front of the line)

Ya, i'm not sure what the max weight is exactly, but I know that if the train weighs too much, it could potentially hit the car in front of you as they load multiple trains on the same circuit.

The same thing happened to me over the summer when we started going to the left everyone thought we were going on a different track for the ride sorta like indianna jones so we're all like WOOOHHH YEAH and then we see the room and we're all like oh...my bad lol

That's just the cast member staying in character. Everyone who work at Disney theme parks are expected to "keep the magic alive," so to speak. That train was probably just in need of maintenance.

Florida will always be the best because the entire park is bigger. The other Disneylands are great but the fact that it's Disney World creates an entire different place. I think I read somewhere that Tomarowland in DisneyWORLD is like the size of DisneyLAND in LA.

The weight thing is not true. This exact thing happened to us when they had to "reboot" the ride. People have to load and unload really fast on this ride, and when it's busy, sometimes people don't go fast enough and "rockets" get backed up. So in attempt to keep the ride going, sometimes they'll just move a rocket out of the way so another one can come in, so they don't have to stop the whole ride.

as far as the weight thing goes, i doubt it.. once while in line for the matterhorn i saw them shoehorning in a guy SOOO big taht when they finally did get enough of him in the bobsled the overall effect was that it looked like he was sitting ON the bobsled.. it just looked dangerous.. i woulda taken a picture, but i didn't have the heart.

Once when i was a little kid my family and i were on this and we got stuck while spiraling down when the ride was none referbished and the lights were on and in the middle of the ride there was a coke machine and a snack machine also a table

that is noly when the ride breaks down and won't work. the ride didnt break down. everyone on the track just weighed too much and it would have made the car go too fast and hit another car in front. they put you at the front of the line in this case.
