@5:50 The other reason would be, that it would be great to have a central place where you could set your containers and VMs to. So you set unraid to ntp (ptp would be better) and have all your VMS/containers sync to that locally.

Big “Yes Please!” to a stop/pause mover button, and a progress bar. And an “autostart mover” function when cache is allmost full. Yeah I know about the more feature plugin (cant remember the name), but for some reason I can’t explain it dosn’t start mover when the cache is 90% full 🤷🏼

I want mover to move files based on file size. For example, if a file is 10 megabytes or less, keep it in cache, otherwise move it to the array. And I want the mover to check all the files on the array and all the files in cache to make sure they're correctly placed based on their size. The threshold size obviously needs to be adjustable.

Great content. I'm new to Unraid so forgive me if I'm asking a really basic question here but the majority of media I watch are items added most recently. With that in mind, I'd like to see a FIFO (First In First Out) cache option. I believe this is available through the Mover Tuning plugin e.g. Move if greater than X days and/or cache drive over X% capacity. The goal is to keep as much new content as possible on the SSD cache, therefore when Mover runs, it shouldn't fully clear the cache, simply reduce from say 85% capacity to 70%. If this is possible via the GUI, I'd love to see a guide on this please.

Thank for the video Ed! Some items on my wishlist's: A) Would love to see manually starting order for Docker. That way I can start Database Docker before anything else. Especially useful when having lots of docker and using Docker folder B) On the dashboard, I would like to see IO Wait separate from CPU usage (Another color like htop). It is so common in unRAID forums/reddit to see people not understanding why CPU usage is at 100% when server barely doing anything. C) Would love an allocation of High-water based on % and not amount. Fill all disk to 50% from lowest numbered disk, then do 75%, 87.5%, 93.75%... I had weird fill-up with current high-water when I had 22 & 4tb in the same server. This "problem" will only get worse with 30+ tb HDD coming in the next few years.

Your first wish has already been granted. Just click the lock/unlock icon at the top to reorder your Dockers. Advanced view also allows for a delay between each Docker startup.

I think when creating a new docker container, a "RANDOM" button next to every network port field would be awesome. It could fill in a random port, that is not occupied by other docker containers.

I'd love if they implemented Ceph. Not for your storage pools but if you had all important things that you absolutely needed and a drive died, or even a pool died you could still continue on. It might be slower but you have no downtime

I have a suggestion for VM's. Creating our own templates for creation or modification. I sometimes modify the system resources assigned to a VM - cores, ram, gpu, sound - and the ability to quickly switch to a template would be beneficial without creating a new configuration using the same disk. So, I would like to click on a VM and an option in the drop down said, "boot/reboot with template." These would be VM level with xml templates stored in the same subdirectory as the primary vdisk. Optionally, system level templates could be saved and quickly accessed for spinning up new VM's. Maybe storing them in the domains directory and only accessible during creation.

Lots of great stuff over the years from the Unraid team. Docker-rollback,VM snapshots would be a great but top my main wish would be further ZFS implementation. ZFS master plugin is great but a native way to create and manage datasets along with snapshots would be great. Creating and running a userscripts to manage them is a bit much. I can imagine this would be useful for the VMs aswell.

For the mover, i would prefer a copy features, something that actually don't move files from cache to array but just copy file from cache to array. Like a nextcloud folder that i want to keep on cache for obvious reason but i want to back up everything on a precise moment. Something like a Time Machine from apple, that copy just new file or change one, to the array folder. It would be amazing for doing backup of cache or appdata, without using 3rd party app that don't work every time. A good solution for media too, a way to keep the most recent media on the cache drive, for viewing need and being sure to have the copy on the array, in case you don't have a parity disk for the cache. Mostly, i would like the time machine feature.

Ed do have to wonder if you perhaps have the Lego version of the Millennium Falcon, maybe pimped up with a light kit 😀 Either way regarding Dashboard wishes, a minor one maybe but it could be an idea to actually add links to parts which also have a page, like Docker containers, Virtual machines, Users, Shares, Array. I know we already have a link in the navigation bar, but this would then be a second option ... as the Romans say 'All roads lead to Rome'. For the Navigation bar maybe those top right small icons could be put into a hamburger menu with for each action the option to stick it to the navigation bar. So could, only stick Unlock, Terminal and Log directly on the navigation bar and the rest less used actions under the hamburger menu, Then Nebu can become Nebuchadnezzar Just my thoughts on this.

I think a lot of this would be awesome features. Especially with the arrays, pools and mover. I also like the OS drive on USB not to take away from the storage. My one grip is only being able to replace a key every 12 months. For UnRaid to run in RAM I go through at least 3 USB drives per server a year. I have tried them all Samsung, Scandisk, Lexar, and even cheap ones. They all fail. I have had to purchase multiple licenses to rotate as they fail. I will give Limetech an A+ they have always replaced a key contacting support. It just always happens at bad times. I just had one fail the other day, here it is a holiday weekend I can't be down 2, 3, 4, or more days.

Not sure if you are familiar with tTrueNAS but Im building a TrueNAS server it will have 8 spinning disk in a raidz2. I want that to be my main storage for plex media. I want to have faster storage for everything else (family photos/videos, documents, etc). I also want to buy a Flex 10 GbE for the TrueNAS, TrueNAS backup, and my computer. My question is do I go with four 2TB SSDs in a raid10 or two 4TB NVME drives in a mirror? If the is a waste do I save some more and do four 4TB NVMEs in a raid10?

I don't know how to express myself, but if I have remote access to unraid server I want to acces the web ui from inside the unraid os and network, and not acces externally with external domains and ports, I don't want to use reverse proxy or port forwarding for every web ui with stats or management, maybe an basic internal web browser idk how I am a noob now I am doing CF tunnels but the media trafic is worse than with direct and port forwarding. If someone knows what I mean and is better with the technical words and ideas, please take this ideea and spread it in your own way. I just want to have the option when I press webUI from outside of LAN I want to give me a prompt to open the WEBUI and have a tick box to open in internal browser, I just want to acces my tdaar from phone to see the progress and have sonarr and radar acces so I can quickly add a movie or series

I think booting from USB and living in RAM is a fine idea, but only if everything actually lives in RAM, including your license. My understanding is that if the USB gets bumped a bit while it's running and comes unplugged, or if the drive fails, it just crashes the server because it can't access your license. That sounds like a terrible design decision.

its not terrible design, its called copy protection. I think even the license lives in ram but there are live checks against the usb and if its suddenly missing your license is missing. If that was not the case, you could just easy use the same license on multiply systems at the same time.

It is possible, but then it most likely had to use some online drm and force the server to "always" be online, a lot more people would be unhappy with that. The way it is is completely offline drm. If you are afraid of bumping the the usb, put the usb inside or use an USB-DOM

It makes it really difficult to focus on the technical details with a distraction, and makes listening at 2x speed impossible. People with ADD or sensory issues will relate, I'm sure. Regarding Settings and Tools, combining them in one menu option on the navigation bar and renaming it would might work better, but then again on which tab does it open initially. On that page a option could be shown to allow the user which of the tabs is for them the default one ... ah the joys of UI design 🙂 Oh BTW you gone cost me money 😉as i'm playing with the idea to install a new rack mounted server after your build-and excellent explanation on the part about SAS cables-and migration from AMD to Intel.

Also, I'd love the ability to remove that useless "My Servers" plug-in pumpkin in the corner.
