hey, 4get dev here. First of all, thank you so much for making a video about my project!! This is really cool, like oh my god I've been waiting for something like this to happen for so long, lol. Just a heads up, I just updated the docker container and I received recent pull requests to automate updates onto docker using a worker or something. I just pushed fixes for google/ddg/youtube too right before seeing your video !! This project being a one-man thing for the most part except the docker stuff, its really cool to see someone enjoying it like that, like wow thats so cool dude. Anyway, I love your video format, it's not over the top and really chill. The part where you just cut the recording off to watch some star wars trailed really made me laugh too. You're the kind of person i make this kind of sh1t for! Keep it up :)

I've really got to get into Tailscale when I buy / build my new NAS, but I've got a long ways to go there. I don't have room for a rack at the moment, so I'm going to have to get a bunch of the basement finished so I can move my office down there, then there will be room for a rack either down there or where my office is now.

How do I add a docker template to the community application

Hi. Um that difficult to answer in a comment so I might make a video about converting a container to an Unraid template. But the very short answer is . You need in the docker settings to stop the docker server and enable Template Authoring Mode: this allows you to save the XML of a template you create. Then you add it to GitHub and shoot Andrew aka Squid a message on the forums and he can add your template repo

I am trying following your guide, but when starting the 4get-container after following all your steps the vpn connection crashes in the gluetun logs showing following error: [openvpn] write UDPv4 []: Operation not permitted (fd=3,code=1)

Is it possible to still use the lan address with 4get on tailscale with vpnexit node. so still access it from lan devices not on the tailscale. If so how would i do that. i tried to enable the lan setting, but that was a no go. i just want to share it with my internal network and still utilize the exitnode vpn for privacy.

Yes you can still use the local address. Tailscale will not stop you from doing so

Nice Tutorial. I would love to have it automatically enabled within my browser (Safari as I am on macOS) to use 4get and not Google or Bing or whatever. Like typing "cars" directly within my browser and it is using 4get automatically instead of Google.

@@Qceanit's already on rc (release candidate). Rc versions are "stable" for all intents and purposes for non-production ie regular people usage. Rc versions are usually not tweaked at all before being pushed. Unraid is a bit weird that they have a longer than 2-3 week rc period, but still, the rc (and betas) have been incredibly stable for me

the way i understand it, serve is like advertising a service into the tailnet AND requires cert/https vs node sharing it just like sharing a machine across the network without restrictions. Someone correct me if i misunderstand at all.

@@DanMan1990 makes sense. Maybe I dont see the point as all my http containers are behind a reverse proxy on custom domain.

@@39zack so it likely depends on your use-case, in most cases if you're running a reverse-proxy youre probably sharing that service to the open internet. If someone say, just has the traffic flowing in their tailnet in http with no certs/ssl, then everything on the wire is unencrypted in clear text, which obviously is not very good security practice. Serve might be an easy way for someone to at least get a secure connection from client to server and on a restricted network space. Thats my understanding anyway.

@@39zack One thing i probably should mention too, is that Serve is meant for 'local' serving of a service, funnel is for open to the internet. I believe that local in this context means anyone in the tailnet, wheres funnels 'open to the internet' would mean anyone not in the tailnet in public internet space.

Hi. The settings are for the person using the search engine. the settings are kept in a cookie in your browser. So each person can have it set how they like :)

This requires having a server to install into doesn't it? That's not going to help us 99.99% of users out there. Much easier to use a version of Chromium that doesn't use Manifest 3 or a browser like Brave that has built in add blockers.

@DivergentDroid lol I thought it was quite clear. If you are building your own search engine 99.99% of the time you will be doing that on your own server. Technically you can run this on any device that supports it as well after all a computer is basically the same as a server generally speaking.
