Good stuff. How do I verify my encryption key to make sure it works before I need it?

Awesome video with lots of great information that I hope I will never need. Fortunately, I have never locked myself out, but if I ever do I will surely refer to this video. Thank you!!!

Very cool. Now I know how to do a soft reset if I need.

Thanks, that saved me from the impending madness I was falling into trying to reconnect after an ISP upgrade 🙏

AFAIK, reset, mode 2, does not touch data (I've done this), so I don't understand your comment about "wipes everything". I do agree that for simple lockouts, mode 1 is correct. However, if a DSM system file corrupts, relief is available through reset, mode 2. Notably, the "factory reset" option in Control Panel does destroy all configurations, packages, and user data. Otherwise this excellent video should be posted as a "sticky" on r/synology... I'm looking at you, Reddit.

What do you do if you don't have an encryption key?
@BrianDavidsАй бұрын
I hope I never have to do this, but thank you for showing me how, just in case. In other news, have you run into Apple Sonoma borking Command-K on the Mac. I have a bunch of Synology’s and with the latest Sonoma update you can no longer Command-K to a volume. You can browse the network and mount them that way, but what the hell Apple?

Hmmm, I have not experienced that Can you double check that its SMB:// and not AFP:// AFP has been deprecated

If the IP address schema is different from location 1 to location 2, just connect the computer directly to the NAS and statically configure the computer's IP address to be in the same schema as the NAS. Login to the NAS as normal after that and change the IP address to the schema for location 2. Disconnect the computer from the NAS and connect the NAS to the new network. Change the computer back to DHCP and connect it back to the new network.

One more way to log in : run Tailscale or something similar and login to that IP address. I agree with you on using a IP address reservation instead of a static IP on the NAS. Too many setup videos for Synology and other NAS's suggest the static IP on the NAS.

Yes multiple network adapters help with that situation If you forget your admin accounts, password as easy to just reset that without having to reset all of your configuration settings

@@Mlaprades And the beauty of Tailscale is that you do not need a second network adapter.

had this happen to me. my 10gbe card is a static ip and all in the internal ports are dhcp. just connect to the dhcp ports and get back in. just make sure all the rcp1918 ip ranges are allowed
