This is because the SpaceX suit doesn't have it's own life support. It gets all the life support (pressurisation and breathing gas etc) from the ship via the umbilical. NASA suits are completely self contained. Modern NASA suits also have a RCS pack so the astronaut can move completely autonomously. The SX suit is more similar to a fighter pilots pressure suit than a real EVA astronauts kit.

True the suit ballooned but it's the same thing that happened on the first Russian and American spacewalks. SpaceX proved the suit functions in hard vacuum of space. They proved that the occupants of the suit is relatively comfortable, and that cabin crew can function with a hatch open to hard space. Now let the guys cook, this was the "Mark 1" suit, we have soooo much more innovation to do. I promise you the engineers were taking whole reams of notes to improve the design.

A lot of negative criticism in here coming from the "keyboard experts". What people don't realize it that this is something that hasn't been done by private enterprise. Also, first time testing the spacesuits in space, therefore there were not going to float in space from the first second... This will take time, and it will only get better as the times goes. Good job to the 4 astronauts and prayers for a safe return.

It was still pretty boring to watch a dude just standing there.
@cplcabsАй бұрын
Well, you say that, but for sure the first space walk was government funded as is the Russian way. Now NASA have outsourced a lot of their stuff, so for example, the Apollo LEM was manufactured by Grumen. Basically, if you have enough money, time and expertise, then anyone can do this. The reason this isn't that special is because it has been done before a number of times, first by Russia and then by the US, both using tech that was a lot simpler, both testing space suits in space and both actually did more than pop their head out of the shi and of course space walks have been done hundreds of times since.
