Pretty sure they still have the first Flacon booster to land, first Dragon capsule to come home, and obviously the first Starship hopper. The only one I can think of that maybe should have been kept was Ship 15. Sounds to me like they are in fact usually sentimental about their milestone making test hardware. Personally, i would say im glad they are keeping hoppy, though i would argue they should take better care of it, not just let it sit in the salt air as is for years on end. Strip the thin partially remaining stainless, give her a sand blasting and paint that lady with some good quality stuff.

The Dragon and Booster are in the museum at the Cape and they also have the first Dragon that flew hanging in their main office complex we used to see it when they launch in the background through the glass yeah Starhopper is special I still remember that day it flew not so long ago yelling go go go baby goooooo! The anticipation for Starship's Booster 12 catch test is off the charts! Can you imagine a 70-meter beast being caught mid-air? @@liamanderson4992 Ha! Exactly. Out of all the things SpaceX has wanted to do with the Starship, catching that booster seems like the most incredible to pull off. I still don't like how much those arms waggle back and forth like that. That would be a fair amount of impact force on the side of the booster if an arm smacked into it due to its own momentum, not to mention what might happen if the booster itself didn't quite have the control they need when it gets close to the tower.

I'm a little surprised they haven't lifted a mockup StarShip Booster with the crane and done capture tests in different positions to test the arms ability to compensate for off center grabs, that just seems like a logical step before trying it on one that is actually flying.

I figured that's what they'd do with the mini test tanks. Filled with up with water to match the almost-empty booster weight, and then dropped from only a 12 inches (30.5cm) above the catch points. After all, the booster WILL be hovering nearly on point, so not much need to drop from any higher _(though I think it'd be smart to, ensuring the system can arrest all the weight)._

Back in the day, all cargo ships were wind powered, then ocean steamers out performed the wind powered vessels. many of the old wind powered vessels eventually retrofitted diesel engines and were called auxiliary ketch, auxiliary schooner etc. if you look into your own Tasmanian maritime history you will see these vessels pretty much built Tassie.

Hey Marcus, great job I love your videos. I have a suggestion that maybe you can pass on to spaceX. I have experienced something similar to the tower arms on a project. I was able to remove the arm bounce by having an opposite force pulling the arms open. This opposite force smooths out the rate of arms closing and seats better when closed. A simple example of this is extending a tape measure. You can pull the tape out as fast as you can. The tape pulls out smooth then stops as soon as you stop exerting more force than the winding. Think about it… The arms can’t bounce backwards if they are already taught.

I think the key for SS is how much fuel they have to play with for an exact pin point landing. Guidance is not the concern.

With the FAA and environmental issues it will be lucky if flight 5 is before 2025

You seem to be the only one still on the unfounded FAA hate train. They have so rarely had any effect on anything in the entire history of Starship.

@@Vatsyayana87 The same unfounded mantra about how good the FAA is (despite having caused years of delays by halting the test flight campaign according to Spacex) that some apologists of the FAA and big government like to spread with no proof . Same people who unabashedly can't stop saying how much they love the SLS boondoggle that spends as much on a steed tower as Spacex has spend on the Starship program.

@SpaceX I hear you plan to catch the new super heavy booster on your working tower. Isn’t it less risk to configure your new tower with just apparatus needed for the catch, instead of risking existing stage 0 with all the launch interconnects?
@Barthhhelona
@Barthhhelona 9 күн бұрын
It’s actual the other way around. No point risking the brand new tower. Especially when tower 1 will eventually be decommissioned

Perfectly fine and working moon lander: CANCLED! StarLiner with software problems, valve problems, flammable tape, crapy thruster, and helium leaks: just keep on rolling guys and don't worry we aren't going to ask for a refund or something.

As amazing as all of the space news is, I can't help but acknowledge the sail ship. I had a feeling we'd return in a way to older methods, at the very least to compliment what we have now. 30% more efficient (in conjunction) is insane and something sailors 400 years ago would be loving and laughing at

Hi Marcus! - a lot to take in again, but you do this so well - thanks! One thing you might mention when talking about satellites launching is the type of orbit the satellite will finally operate in. In the case of Sentinel-2C, this will be a sun-synchronous orbit at about 786 km height. For me, the highlight of this video is at 22:15, showing the shadow of a circumstellar disk ... wow, just wow! Thanks again, keep up the good work.
