We got Starlink about 3 months ago after having paid for it almost a year to the date in advance. We mounted it on the top of our chimney above the second floor (not over the vent). We are surrounded by pine trees, but our yard doesn't have any in it, so there is some room for the satellite to do its job. It took about a day for it to load in all the satellite data so it didn't work at first, but I had kept my other internet for a month as a backup just in case. It doesn't do well in really bad weather, but otherwise it's given us way better performance than our Cox internet. With Cox I had to use WiFi extenders to reach all our devices in our bedrooms and downstairs on our patio and in the garage, and we still had issues with dropped signals. We have only had that problem two times since the install, we now use NO WiFi extenders, and both times it was very hard rain. I feel like it's not a good application for people who are deep among trees or buildings because it has to be able to see the satellites. We could see the dish moving around up there that first day, while it was locating them.
@0U8123MTA32 жыл бұрын
That is interesting. I have heard that encrypted connections are slower than unencrypted connections. Is that something you might have noticed with the satellite internet?
@brunos79952 жыл бұрын
You can't judge a service quality by the interior wireless... that's totally pointless as you can easily solve that. The only important thing regarding internet for rural areas is the signal strength you get from the ISP. After that you just need some acess points (extenders are awful) and you are set.

Hey Robert, just wanted to help you get the best experience with Starlink, your Internet download/upload is low because the direction the Starlink device is pointed at the trees, I recommend putting Starlink satellite on your RV, more clearance will get you those blazing fast speeds.

You might get better horizon by lifting it, on a table or maybe on top of a pole or on the roof of Minitini 1 in the middle of the field (as a proof of concept )
@ChrisZwolinski2 жыл бұрын
I agree. Since it is satellite based, the higher the better to get the clearest view of the sky. With the nice hefty base, on top of Minnie Tinnie would get the best reception / speed. Either that or a pole above the trees. Can’t wait to see how Friday goes.

When doing the Starlink set up on the phone app, will it work if you have no phone/data service? Can you set up the Starlink with the phone in airplane mode? If you are remote off-grid, you may not have enough phone service for the app to work if that is required for the power-up of the dish?

Try what any giant spider would. Spin a web. Perhaps devise some sort of suspension bridge using ropes between (or among) trees and hoist that Starlink up there. Just need to scale those trees.
