Because it held out that long, I'm guessing the center of mass at the time was more or less in the middle of the rocket, so aerodynamic forces on the sides mostly cancelled out. @rrobertt13 not an expert, but apparently once the flight abort system is activated the Dragon tells the Falcon to shutdown all engines so that the capsule can increase its distance from the the rocket itself. Without engines, and at that speed, the rocket will loose its trajectory and the aerodynamic forces will brat it apart, because its only meant to fly straight up, and without engines it cannot correct. So once it starts going sideways, it just broke.

RealityIsTheNow, I think we should give people more credit. I think people know it takes a “team” of people to make anything happen. It’s the management of all that team, it’s tasks and concepts. Bringing this type of thing to reality takes so much hard work from everyone but to have one person be the face of all that is daunting and stressful. Elon tried hard not to be CEO of Tesla but he fought tooth an nail to make sure Space X is successful. He deserves the praise. If people are free to spend millions to see their favorite artist, even though it takes a “team” to put a concert together, then people can agree that Elon is worth the admiration Check out the Third Rows video Podcast of Elon.
