European Roads, I found more images of the next section just opened last week, Santa Cilia-Puente la Reina, as you know that exit 87 does not exist, what does exist is exit 86, which links on the autonomous highway of Aragon, A- 176, in Puente la Reina. Check well because in your video, exit 97 appears and not exit 87, so you know it. We will continue pending in the future, a new video report, in contract sense, from Puente la Reina to Jaca and we will give millions of thanks! Sincerely.

As always, Spanish road quality is fantastic and the scenery is just breathtaking. However, I believe that building this motorway section was a misuse of taxpayer money because like a few other examples, this is a fantastic road with very few users. Maybe there’s only a few vehicles because the A-21 is not really continuous at the moment (although it’s encouraging to use an autovía when there is one) and it may be paradoxically faster to continue via the N-240. I’ll have to look up the data, but for instance, in Ontario where I live, there has to be at least 10,000 vehicles per day to justify a motorway being built. Anyway, just a thought. Cool video!

The usage of Spanish motorways is generally low, but one thing that sets Spain apart is the low construction cost. A motorway like this typically doesn't cost more than € 5 million per kilometer, so the cost-benefit ratio is different than what you would expect in most of Europe.

@@EuropeanRoads Fair point, however I still feel that even if it's cheaper to build, it's incredibly inefficient due to the lack of use. In other words, it would be better to use that money for a new ring road around Madrid or some other city rather than this.

There are ski resorts & natural parks in this region of Aragon (Candanchu, Astun, Canfranc, Ordesa etc. ) which usually get crowded with people coming from Navarra & Basque Country during autumn & snow season. Much needed infrestructure 👌

The problem is that Spain neglects the secondary roads for this

@@alfromwork It is justified because the other road is garbage ( limited at 50/60)

Great video report!! Mind you, exit 87 doesn't exist, it's exit 97, because of a numbering error that you edited the video. Check well in the minute 1:57 and you will see that the number 97. Too bad you would have made a video report with the new stretch just opened yesterday, between Santa Cilia and Puente la Reina de Jaca. So you would have done with the two open sections of the year 2019 of the A-21 highway. @European Roads, are you going back soon to make the video report from Jaca to Puente la Reina de Jaca? Better you can do the video report from Puente la Reina de Jaca to Jaca, about 15km long.

By the way, I have a small idea for this channel. There appear to be no playlists and when a channel has significant amount of videos, it’s an easy way to organize and help viewers enjoy the content that’s produced. You have videos from all over Europe and having a couple playlists by country or by road type would be nice to have. What do you think? Edit: as of January 2020, this request has been implemented.

This road is fairly new. That's why this road is in a very good shape. Most roads in Spain, unfortunatelly, have been worsing in the last 8 years, mainly in Southern Spain.
