Why don't they turn it into an air sports centre, ie light aircraft and drone flying. Drone flying racing spectaculars are a big thing in the USA and many people see it is a new sport. Also light power gliding which is a relatively new sport. But to have a massive airport sitting there doing nothing when it could be earning money is disgraceful. Perhaps Spain doesn't need a new airport where it is but rather than wasting all that wonderful space and potential they could be raking in the dough by changing it's uses to other activities.

Madrid in the middle of nowhere. Unless Ryanair gets paid to use it then its only good for cargo operations and ultra low cost carriers.

WHY DIDN'T they sell it to the USA military. INSTANTLY turn around the local economy ESPECIALLY the resturants and night scene. Surely they can tolerate a bunch of Americans. Spain is overrun with British ANYWAY so what is a bunch of easy spending American troops???
