It’s a challenge to play the 16th notes in this bassline. Listen for instance at the sixteenth notes in bar 6, 17 and 18.
The bassline was played by Tony Swain on synthesizer. Martin Kemp is the bassplayer of Spandau Ballet Duran Duran but this song was played (as a lot of similar songs in those days) on a (bass) synthesizer.
There are some really nice licks in bar 19; 48; 108 and 110. The song is written in the key of G, but the Solo transposes to Eb (E flat). There’s a really nice funky/syncopated bassline there!
This song brings you back to the 80’s and it’s a joy to play!
Bass: Tony Swain
Album: True (1983)
Composer: Gary Kemp
