Quienes estaban en la reunion? Who were in the meeting ? not Who was in the meeting ?
@KimRowden3 ай бұрын
Another case where, in English, we use the singular even if it is about a group of people... Who WAS in the mtg? ... because usually we want to know the INDIVIDUALS who were in the meeting (notice in this last sentence I had to use '...who were...' because I'm now referring to the group!)

Hola profesora Quienes van a la fiesta? Who are going to the party? not who is going to the party ?
@SpanishWithLiliana3 ай бұрын
Hola, I debated about this when recording and left them as is because in my experience, it’s not natural to ask ‘who are going to the party’? We would just ask who is and go from there. In Spanish, if you know there are multiple people, we use the plural form and it is normal. Same thing with the meeting. But literal translation, you are correct. Thanks for watching 🤗

Yes, in English we use 'who IS going...?' even if the question is for a group of people.
