This is a great video! I really like the trick I learned from you about using @ instead of writing both "vosotros" and "vosotras" out in full. One note - On the slide where you have the stem-changing verbs listed, you have misspelled the verb "despertarse," putting an "a" after the "p." It should be an "e," as it is an e-->ie stem-changing verb. Gracias.

Question, why when we say me gusta or te gusta why doesn’t the gusta change?
@CyberProfe2 жыл бұрын
Because of how we translate it. =) As an English speaker, I'll translate "me gusta" as "I like it" but it really means "me (to me) gusta (this is pleasing)." So me gusta means "to me it is pleasing", te gusta means "to you it is pleasing", nos gusta means "to us it is pleasing" and le gusta means "to him or to her it is pleasing." That's why it doesn't change!

When can we use these verbs in infinitive form ? I'd love to get some examples. I'm a bit puzzled even why we need infinitive form - most of those are just regular verbs that are used in a peculiar reflexive way. Can any verb be reflexive under right cirunstances? Please clarify.
@gerlautamr.6562 жыл бұрын
Examples: Es difícil levantarse a las 7 de la mañana. Las montañas pueden verse desde lejos. Mi madre va a comerse las frutas. These are just a few examples where reflexive verbs are used in their infinitive form.

I've struggled with this for three years. Most teachers do what you do. But surelt "me llamo" is just an ordinary verb, following the ordinary order of words in Spanish. "Te llamo" is "I call you, but it's not reflexive. The reflexivity is therefor in the direct object pronoun, not in the verb. It's not a "a reflexive verb", it's a "sentence reflecting an action the the doer of the action". Right?
@CyberProfe Жыл бұрын
Hola! The verb 'llamar' is different from the verb 'llamarse'. One is reflexive but the other isn't. Me llamo uses the verb 'llamarse' to mean "I call myself," like: Me llamo Sara. But, in your example, te llamo, it uses the verb 'llamar' and just means I call you. You could say, "Ya te llamo," and it means "I'll call you back."
@chriswesley594 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply. In English, we can say "I call myself Chris" but we can also say "I call you Cyber". I agree that one usage of the verb is reflexive and the other is not, but - for me - it's the same verb. It means fundamentally the same thing, but the convention around the usage - the context - modifies it slightly. I suppose whether you say those two usages of CALL are using two diferent verbs, or the same verb in two contexts which modify the verb's meaning slightly - is arbitrary, but I've struggled with this for years. Now I can use reflexive verbs correctly, and I've learned many of those special contextual (AKA reflexive) meanings, but for me - reflexive verbs are just the same old regular verbs used in special contexts. Thanks again for your time.

I noticed on the last examples, you didn’t exactly translate word for word. For example “we comb our hair= nos peinamos el pelo”. shouldn’t it be “nos peinamos nuestro pelo”. Is the fact that you are using a reflexive verb remove the need for possessive pronouns?
@CyberProfe4 жыл бұрын
In Spanish, when it comes to body parts, we often use 'el' or 'la' where in English we would say 'your.' Nos peinamos el pelo does translate to 'We comb our hair'! Hope that helps!
