THE FAIL: another first for me. Interestingly I know exactly what happened. When I passed the oncoming traffic I saw an empty road ahead of me. Therefore I allowed myself to brake a little later. After the first downshift my brain somehow thought I hit neutral instead of first gear. That's why I immediately started an emergency brake maneuver instead of holding my line. All of this took place in a quarter of a second probably. It is all done subconsciously. This false feeling of having hit neutral probably lasted for a tenth of a second and still it was enough for me to immediately react. Because on the bike there is no time to hesitate. I'm glad I could keep it on my side. But even if I would've gotten carried into the opposite lane I wouldn't mind too much. Some of you might be saying now: "but you would've been dead if a car was coming your way!!!" which is right probably. The crux is that with oncoming traffic I would never hit a corner this hard. Riding quick-ish on public roads asks for a lot of caution and thinking for all others. You have to evaluate every single corner while you're riding. If it's clearly free of other traffic participants you can enter that tiny bit faster. If it's not you enter with a bit more caution than usual. Just stay relaxed and calm all the time otherwise you'll probably end up in the woods or fields rather quickly.
***
HAVING FUN: I enjoy wringing out bikes. That's why liter bikes don't make too much sense for someone like me on public roads. I also enjoy braking hard. As soon as the bikes' engine is all warmed up I just like to grab the thing by the neck and give it a good spanking. But that's not how you ride quickly. I'm much quicker when focusing on riding as smoothly as possible. Although on a road like this you definitely have to use first gear all the time on such a small 4cyl bike. Because below ~8-9K RPMs there's basically NOTHING happening power-wise.
---
And yes, that very last clip was me inspecting the "damage" after returning from the OX ride. I thought I had scratched the exhaust itself. While actually most of the marks where in front of the exhaust, on this weird cover plate. Never seen these things "scraped" before.

Personally, I like a more upright riding position and sport fairings because it's more "sport-touring" and better for long rides than a sportbike where you're always bent over on your wrists. I enjoyed your GSX-S750 videos and wondered if you had a CBR650F video. Awesome, man! There are precious few videos of these bikes being pushed hard - everyone's so tame and lame. Your videos are great. Subbed.

This is the first video of yours where I noticed mistakes (I don't go searching for them). Usually you are spot on. Scared me early on, thinking you were going to run wide after entering the corner to quickly or tightly. Anyway still heaps of fun to watch! Looking forward to your new stuff whenever it will come out, I am guessing next spring?

MOAR HONDA PLS! Nice ride and nice video as usual! 😊 The small 4-cylinder engines are designed for people like me, who ride gently 80% of the time and more aggressively the remaining 20% 😇 We normally stay at mid-revs, and drop a gear (or two) when we want to make it more exciting... The 3-cylinders engine are the ones designed for people like you, who ride gently only when the engine hasn't reached yet its operating temperature 😉😄

Think of it this way: small 4 cyl. bikes like this are aimed primarily at 2 kinds of people: 1. the guy or gal who is getting on their second or third bike after their 125/250cc learner. For this kind of person the bike can be slow enough in the to not be frightening and capable enough once it gets going to not bore you off it too soon. And 2. The more mature rider who's been riding their whole life and loves to ride hard without getting into unmanageable levels of trouble. For this person that has both the skill to ride something you have to push hard and the knowledge that they don't need break the law too much to have fun this bike and others like it (FZ6, Hornet, Bandit, GSX-F, etc) are great because they allow you to work your riding skills at speeds/fun levels higher than a small twin/triple and with a wider fun/trouble berth than you would have with a supersport. For both these people these bikes offer better ergonomics than a superbike and better wind protection/rider comfort than a naked, have better performance than a similarly sized ADV and are nowhere near as loutish as a Supermoto. And yes, MOAR HONDA PLEASE!

+Schaaf Yeah your taste in bikes is pretty well formed by now. and you sure did spank that CBR. For the rest of though like me who started on a Bandit, got on a Hornet then went back to tge Bandit, crashed it and hasn't been on a motorcycle in 4 years our tastes are still forming. I'm looking at both a CBF500 twin and a Hornet 600 to buy...but I can only get the Hornet if I can sell my car by the end of the year. Oh to be 25 years old with no stable income!

Heute eingeschlossen... Was die 600 4er angeht: fahre selbst ne GSR 600.

got a 92 cbr600f as my first bike, this year. I think many points will match the new cbr600f why i like it: 1. money ->it was cheap to buy in good condition, cheap on gas, and reliable 2. the engine is supersmooth all the time 3. it has like no torque under a certain rev-> it wont surprise me 4. it can go fast if you want to 5. windshield is nice for autobahn (wich is like meditating for me) 6. it just fits my needs in all of its compromise 7. it seems that there is a certain type of cardriver, which feels provoked by the sportish and girly look of a bike in a coloursceme designed in the 80s(violet,pink,blue,black) and so they want to race me :DD

I rode my friend's Gixxer 6 with helibars and it was still uncomfortable. It also had an odd power band where it would suddenly come on like a two stroke at 4-6000 rpms. I am so used to my CB500F. I don't need a street bike with all its power on top. The 500 is the perfect motor for backroads...and she does just fine on the highway. Great video. I like the 600F BECAUSE it is comfortable.

These type of bikes are best for touring because of the fairing and the riding postion actually there is a whole category of sport-touring bikes. The CBR 600 F was allways more on the sporty side but it is quite usefull for touring also. But as you saw you can use it also on twisty roads like this quite easily. I have a Honda CBF 1000 which is also a sport tourer and i use it for comuting, touring and having fun on the twistys and it performs well in everything. And BTW I love your videos and you have great drivnig skills and these roads are great, I'll have to visit Austria and make sure for my self

I don't get why they build em in a way so the neutral riding style (body in line with the bike's lean) feels best and most comfortable while at the same time not allowing lots of lean. I was shocked to see how quickly the exhaust plate cover is touching down when not riding hang off

I think these bikes have a perfect place in the market. When I think of a great first sport bike for a beginner, this is the sort of bike I think of. Most people think it is a double R (or race bike if they don't know bikes), it's slower therefore safer for less experienced riders. Think of it as the Mustang of bikes. It's not gonna win races, but it'll put a huge smile on your face if you are in the early stages of riding. If I won the lottery, this is the bike I would buy my dad.

+Diefullah FIlmconvert indeed is very easy to use actually. I'm not messing around at all, the GoPro didn't do any better :) You would be able to pull down those blown out highlights with a raw and uncompressed video file in post production maybe but certainly not with a heavily compressed h.264 file. And since I only started using filmconvert very recently I highly doubt it what makes my work look unique :D

I also don't like small 4 cylinders because you have to rev them too much to have fun. On a racetrack, that wouldn't be an issue, on a road it is. So I prefer big singles and twins :)

+Schaaf, scraping stuff on the bike it's fun, but it unsettles the bike everytime you do it. You should lean off the bike a bit, in order to lean less into corners, it also gives you more room if you have to correct your line. For the rest, nice video as always!

They're interesting bikes. It looks very stable compared to your XSR700 video, but you can tell you don't get along with the engine characteristic quite so well. The marketing people would tell you they're pitched at 40-somethings (i.e. me, haha) that like supersport styling but want more comfort. I'm guessing you struggle to see the point because a 500 twin essentially covers the performance closely enough but does so with a driveable powerband and a light weight frame.

im with you, i dont like sporty looking bikes with upright position aka anny sportbike under 600(with exceptions) the only ones that gives you that feel is the hyosung gt250r, big bike, little 250 Vtwin, i do prefere naked bikes for that driving style/sitting position, but i love going with my arms low and a raceish position(been cycling fixed a lot with dropbars and i love it) i would chose the regular 600f hornet, or even the older models, before the full fairing version, and i love little inline4 :C one of my dream bikes is a CBR250rr(the old one) or a CB400 su-four

Lovely video as always, just one question if you don't mind, I really want to learn how to kneedown when I get my bike (assuming I get an appropriate one), how did you bring yourself up to finally kneedown (just a general idea of how you went about it would be nice)? I'm scared of breaking my bike and crashing or something... I'd love to go on tours and do fast rides like you... cheers.
@Schaaf

thank you! I'm not joking but this is how I learned to put my knee down: the only advice I had was "try to kiss the side mirror" because then my body positioning allegedly can't be too wrong. That's all the info I had for how to ride hangoff. It felt incredibly weird and still does but apparently I'm doing it more or less right already. But there are many YT tutorials on this. I'd consult them if I was you :)

@Schaaf
@Schaaf 8 жыл бұрын
Danke dir!

The 600F is biased more toward practicality and comfort, a 600RR would have been far more suited to your riding. In the video you say it annoys you how high you have to rev the engine but this is contradicted by the description where you say you enjoy wringing out smaller engined bikes and don't see the point of litre bikes, so which is it? High RPM it's the only way you can get decent power (i.e. 100bhp+) from a normally aspirated 600cc engine, irrespective of the number of cylinders.
@Schaaf
@Schaaf 8 жыл бұрын
nope. There definitely is a big difference between characteristics from small 1-3 cylinder engines compared to 4 cylinder ones. Even my CB500 is snappier and more aggressive on the throttle when in lower revs. Yes I love wringing out bikes but I love it even more when they show SOME lifesigns before the 10K rpm line. The CBR600F is more or less dead power-wise below 9-10K.
@ferrumignis
@ferrumignis 8 жыл бұрын
The CBR600F makes more power and torque than the CB500 at any given RPM. It makes more torque at 4000 RPM than the CB500 does at peak. The 'snappiness' for the 500 is mainly in your head, the CBR goes just as well at lower RPM but the vastly better performance at high RPM just makes it feel slower.
@Schaaf
@Schaaf 8 жыл бұрын
well, "characteristics", "lifesigns" are not exactly words I'd use when talking about numbers on paper. Of course something I simply feel is in my head. Although I'd love to see dyno charts from both engines for sure.
