Another great topic and so glad to hear you are a William Marshall fan ! I was disappointed he didn’t make the book club list last year as he was a super star . So I must squeeze his book in myself Lots of new info that I wasn’t aware of ,which is always a treat . Thank you

Great discussion! I'd like to add that without the Whte Ship Disaster & the death of William Æthling, we would have no Plantagenets.

Fascinating discussion! Thanks as always ...One of my favourite fiction books is by ken follett the pillars of the earth ..which has the white ship disaster as it's background

henry II,. following the house of capet custom of crowing a co- or sub king...during the lifetime of the paramount or superior king... also thomas a beckett , the clergy who does not swear loyalty of fealty to the crown or king henry II..., ever after the clergy are required to swear loyalty to the crown & king, albeit with supremacy of and consent of the pope... its quite complicated.. henry 8th his descendant has his own challanges with the church & clergy... , removing right to santcuary , often used by *rebels against the crown*, during the war of the roses....
