Thanks for making this video. Changing plugs on this car is thankfully quite easy. 4 bolts hold down the coils on each plug. Nothing is in the way. Everything came apart so nice and easy. Next time I do it I will be surprised if it takes me 15 minutes unless I just decide to clean everything under that plastic cover.

I wonder how much oil does your engine burn between oil changes ?
@regularconversation9 ай бұрын
how is that possible?? spark plugs don’t last that long they 300% have been changed before you just didn’t find out or something
@perryallan3524Ай бұрын
@@regularconversation October 2024: I had well over 200,000 miles on my 2009 Sonata before I changed spark plugs. I only changed the plugs because two of the the coil packs were starting to fail - so I changed all plugs and coil packs at the same time. Yes, in a properly tuned and cared for engine... modern spark plugs last a very very long time. Note that I have been running Mobile 1 oil since 4000 miles and typically change it every 5000-6000 miles. I credit that to the reason I have well over 300,000 miles on the engine... and it runs just great except for a recent problem which is most likely a bad vacuum hose or bad PVC valve (all of which are original). It also helps a lot that the 2009 2.4L engine is manifold fuel injection and not direct injection and that the block was made in the old factory before they built a new factory several years later that left metal shavings in the block. Turbocharging also shortens the life of the block. I'll stick with my 2009 as long as I can (and I have found 2 remanufacturers who remanufacturer the 2-3 year range of this engine (but they are looking for an "old block" like mine to be returned): That's my plan if the engine dies as the rest of the car is in great shape). I've soaked a few bolt clamps with liquid wrench this morning as they are frozen and I need to remove the air intake system from the air filter to the throttle body to gain access to what looks like a problem emission system vacuum hose. If its just a bad hose or PVC valve, it will be fixed relatively easy. If its something else, then more advanced troubleshooting will be needed (a bad throttle body is also a possibility other than a vacuum leak somewhere)- I'll have to evaluate if I'm up to replacing the manifold gasket myself if its leaking (a possible vacuum leak). We will see what I find.

you need a torque wrench and a 16mm or 5/8th spark plug socket OR a socket that’s long enough to fit the spark plug if they don’t have the spark plug version… you also need to look up in your car manual the amount of lbs per ft to set the torque wrench too when you’re tightening the plugs in the cylinders. i have no clue why the guy didn’t post the tools needed or the amount of force needed to bolt them in because that’s CRUCIAL

Hello. I have 2012 sonata gdi turbo. Was overheating. Took to dealer. And they found out it had a warp head. Got it all replaced and worked on by Hyundai under warranties. Now it's leaking oil from area where the turbo sits. Any suggestions?? Can it be a bad valve cover seal? Or spark plug seal!? No I haven't checked spark plugs to see if it's wet with oil.

Do you have to wait for the engine to cool down before removing the plugs due to the cylinder head being aluminum? So that the head's threads don't gall up when the plugs are removed? Also, what holds the new spark plug in your socket so that the plug does not drop into the hole when you are installing them?
@2carpros8 жыл бұрын
Engine temp doesn't matter too much, but I wouldn't do it right after you turned the engine off. Always good to let it cool down a bit just for safety concerns. It's a sparkplug socket. It is specifically designed to hold on to the sparkplug.

Actually, the Denso 3478 (seem to be the same as in the video) are gaped at 0.044 - the higher margin of the recommended Hyundai (which is 1.0 - 1.1 mm (0.039 - 0.043 in)).
@andivalachi82478 жыл бұрын
Then again, I discovered that trying to set the gap on iridium spark plugs can do more harm than good (the tip can be easily messed up). So, probably it is better to leave them with 0.044in.
