I don't have any experience with the sparkel system, but I think perhaps some key points may be missed in your review. 1. So you have to go to the store to buy c02 for the sodastream... just like you have to go to the same store to buy the sparkel sachets or ingredients if you diy. What's the difference? 2. I thought most sodastreams give you infinite levels... the longer you hold the button down the more fizzy it will be. On the model you are showing it is not three levels, the lights work on a timer to give you an estimate of how fizzy it will be based on how long you hold down the pressure button. 3. Re. environmentally friendly. It is mentioned that you have to drive to the store to get a new tanks, but you have to also drive to the store for the sparkel sachets. From what i can see there is zero plastic waste from the sodastream because the cylinders are refilled and you swap a cylinder. 4. While you do mention DIY pressurised c02 tanks, and just discounted this, you should have explained the options because this is how you can really reduce the cost. And there are options where you are not using DIY methods to refill the sodastream cylinder. You can purchase larger tanks that can be connected to the sodastream with an adapter that can bring the cost from 60 cents per litre down to 10 cents per litre. It would only be fair that you mention this option. 5. What about cleaning the sparkel, is that mentioned? I searched and found something saying if you are using the sparkel to carbonate beverages other than water you need to do a deep clean on occasion. Also is there any other cleaning required?

I owned a soda stream and got tired of the exchange tank method (always an long ordeal at Walmart .. clerks not knowing how to ring up the sale minus the exchange) and using the soda stream was sometimes a big mess when the bottle isn’t perfectly aligned and spews all over. This sparkle system looks great .. the ability to make my own carbonated packs sounds even more amazing (will watch your other video) and the ability to carbonate with any natural flavors ...thanks for sharing!

Hi, are there less busy stores to exchange the tanks? In my country, all who sells the machines, exchanges tanks as well. We actually have a set price, so not a headache there, eq to $11 pr exchange tank. If the machine is making a mess its because one don’t let the water set before the next shot, or press it too long (on manual ones at least). But of course we can add our own flavouring, please, investigate, and use some imagination.. but only after the water is carbonated. I at least, love my ‘new’ Pink Blush manual Sodastream. Plan to brew some very strong green tea, perhaps with lemon, to grace my carbonated water, and will be on the lookout for some very concentrated natural fruit juices.

I go to my local Walmart and bring back the soda stream canister after it is empty, and buy a store "refill" for $15. You go to the service counter and that's where they have them. Don't buy the regular soda stream refills because they are much more expensive, by the Walmart refills.

It's a tank exchange, not recycling. You swap an empty tank for a full tank and it costs $15 here. Sodastream refills them and checks them for damage. It's still quite expensive though for CO2. Which is why I've used an adapter to adapt a standard paintball CO2 bottle to mine. The standard bottle costs $5 to refill and holds more CO2

The price for exchanging a gas canister is 19 CAD in Canada and 7 CAD for the syrup. That's a total cost of 19 CAD/60 liter and 7 CAD/9 liter. All in all you're paying 0.31 CAD/liter of club soda and 1.1 CAD/liter of Soda. There are many different kinds of syrup to choose from. Some are sugar reduced, and that will taste artificial to you if you're not used to it.(because it is) Unless you think all soda you're getting in fast food places tastes artificial(made the same way as sodastream), it's because you've picked a syrup brand/type you don't like.

Thanks for your comparison Erin; I bought one, as well as a Drinkmate, and I think I'm going to be returning the Sparkel however due to a number of observances and issues, which is disappointing because I was hoping to support a Canadian company. The way Sparkel Carbonates, it cycles its gas distribution from the bottom cap, through the bottle, and back up through the top cap. This has the unfortunate effect of blowing some liquid through the entire system, which effectively contaminates the next beverage you do; you can see this very clearly by looking into the waste trap. If it's only water you're doing, then it's clear. But do a cola, and you'll see a caramel like tinge in the water. Not to mention that after a cycle, it will drop from the nozzle at the top. This is with making sure that the bottles are filled to the fill line (and in at least one case, below it..). One of the reasons we started looking at these was because my daughter developed severe food allergies and we hoped this would allow her to enjoy some of the things she can't buy at retail. The Drinkmate on the other hand, as mentioned by another commenter below, has their infusion caps and that can be washed out between drinks, or I'll probably look to buy a couple more (although the Canadian site doesn't seem to carry them for some reason....). Anyway, that does seem to be the worse issue, but apart from that, I do find that even on the highest setting, it doesn't carbonate as much as we like, an the bottles don't seem to be keeping the pressure. I really wanted to like it as it was my first choice when shopping for one, but unfortunately doesn't meet our needs.

In Sodastreams defence you can make your own flavour syrups, or any other way you wish to flavour. Can also refill your own tank easily with dry ice or use a much larger co2 tank and adapter, which cuts the cost to a fraction of the proprietary tanks. As you mentioned about Sparkle though you can make your own powder instead of buying which also cuts down on the cost significantly. Generally if you are comfortable using larger tanks, or refilling with dry ice Sodastream is going to be cheaper in the long run with a higher up front cost(Locally I can refill a sodastream tank for about 2 dollars), while Sparkle will be a bit more expensive in the long run with a lower upfront cost. If you and your drink alot of carbonated beverages Sodastream is probably the way to go. If you aren't comfortable either refilling your bottles or using a larger non proprietary co2 bottle then Sparkle is probably the better option.
@pjaypender1009
@pjaypender1009 Жыл бұрын
Right. and saying the tanks are "recycled" is misleading. They are refilled, so they are "reused" not "recycled." there is no waste at all. Even if you aren't refilling them yourself, the ones you return are refilled and sent back into the supply chain. They don't go to the recycler. And you can flavor with anything--including the things she mentioned. I actually use the packets of water flavoring like Crystal Light. You can get all kinds of flavors in these packets, including Crush soda flavors, 7Up, Hires and A&W root beer, and every fruit and tea flavor imaginable.2 packets to a bottle. Price wise. she is also mistaken. The lowest priced Sodastream is $99 (lower at Walmart) so is cheaper than Sparkel, and requires no electricity (which is not free) to run. The Sparkel is $129. And "contaminating" isn't why the recommend not carbonating things other than water. It's because some things when carbonating spray all over when you release the pressure removing the bottle. That will happen with Sparkel too. She is just wrong about Sodastream. The tanks do not contain 60 liters of CO2. 60 liters of CO2 would be a HUGE tank. The 60 refers to the number of liters of soda they make on average. The tanks hold about 14oz.--less than a half liter--of CO2. As far as noise, there is only a tiny difference in volume, and the Sodastream makes noise for 3-5 seconds. The Sparkel runs much longer. Sodastream wins hands down on noise. The whole video is incredibly biased. Also, making your own packets voids the Sparkel warranty. Refilling Sodastream tanks does not.

@@pjaypender1009 You don't have to worry about the the soda going all over your counter when you put the syrup in with the sparkle.... You get 100% co2 with every bottle with sparkle, as opposed to the sodastream when the tank gets low... And one last thing ---- you don't have to shake the soda to mix the syrup, which makes the soda go flat.

@@pjaypender1009 Cool idea on the Dry Ice. However thst sounds like a hassle opposed to just measuring 10g and 13g. Sparkle all the way until Soda Stream gets the cost down and makes valves that allow you to mix anything like the Drink Mate. It is also very easy to clean the Sparkle. Not sure about the longevity of either machine. Also not sure how the company can say you bought your own ingredients.

You don't drive to the store just to replace your Sodastream gas canister. You do it in combination with other things. The exchange of canisters is a non-issue for the user environmental-wise. Whether canisters is a worse way to store it is a better question. It has to be driven from the factories and to the stores. This can either be a bad point for Sodastream if empty bottles are collected and delivered every time... or a good one if they've found a way to refill the bottles locally in the store.

If you choose sparkle you simply order 5 lb of citric acid off Amazon and 5 lb of baking soda off Amazon. Amazon delivers so it's really easy. So you will get about 210 tablespoons out of each one. So that's 210 bottles of sparkling water before you run out I think the last time I figured it out it was somewhere around $0.20 a bottle to make. If you buy the sparkletts pre-packaged packlets it'll cost you about $0.40 a month. I've never been a fan of the CO2 bottle exchange system.

After a couple months start leaking, or the motor will brake up , or will extract a low pressure. And bottles aren't keeping co2. 3d : after 6 -12 monthes just stopped working on so many customers.

I can get 1 lbs of dry ice for $3, unscrew the valve of the CO2 bottle and put the dry ice in there. Screw the valve back and wait for the dry ice to melt and now I have 1 lbs of CO2 in the bottle for $3. That comes out to be 5 cents per liter of carbonate water.

I don't know why I feel like the gas cartridge might be safer for your body, versus consuming however much it is of citric acid and baking soda. Especially if someone is drinking a lot of carbonated water, soda, drinks, etc. I don't know why that seems like a better concept. I guess, because the gas "bubbles" will release in your body as burps, whereas having something physically added to the water, just makes me wonder if it's going to be okay for the long run. Does that make sense? I haven't researched consuming citric acid and baking soda on a regular basis to see what people say. I'm sure I'm probably thinking into this too much, but it's just something that comes to mind, since one is a gas and one is not. I really like the idea of the sparkle, because I like being able to add carbonation to anything. Any thoughts about that I've said? Thanks! 💗

The sachets/powders never enter your water; the CO2 gas they create is what creates the bubbles
@goose7574
@goose7574 4 жыл бұрын
@@ErinLawrenceTV If they don't enter the water, how does the water end up carbonated? It has to enter the water for it to work. That's why you have that different flavor afterwards.

Thanks for the great review. I've owned two Sodastreams in my life and retired the brand. They served me well, but a brand I never heard of changed everything for me. (I've also never heard of Sparkel before either. Is that a Canada-only brand?) Anyway, I bought an iDrink Drinkmate a few months ago. I think it's really what most people want because it costs the same or less as these other products but, and it's a big ole BUT, it carbonates way more than water. It carbonates everything! If you want to carbonate juice or wine (instant champagne!) or flat beer or non-flat beer or tomato juice or liquor or water or anything else, the iDrink Drinkmate is the only countertop soda maker to do it. What's the catch? NONE! The same price or less and uses the same carbonators as Sodastream, literally. You can order carbonators from Sodastream or from iDrink or just buy the Sodastream ones in stores all over the country. You can exchange them in the same stores or online via either of their sites. Not convinced why I love it? Think about how you actually make Sodastream drinks: You carbonate the water first, add flavorings, then delicately shake to mix the bottle so as not to make it explode. Not ideal. With the Drinkmate, you maybe take water or none at all or mix and match any other liquid or maybe take water and add the Sodastream flavorings or your own or any other flavorings or zero water and perhaps just pour table wine into the bottle. Understand? You're unrestricted from having to use only water, some water, or any at all. But then you can furiously shake that bottle up and thoroughly mix it however you want before you add carbonation. If you add anything to a Sodastream bottle filled with water before carbonation, it will explode everywhere. With the Drinkmate, no explosions. Make a fizzy cocktail with liquor you bought from the store and throw in some cherry juice you purchased at your local grocery. Then carbonate it! Insane, yes, but fun to play with limitless possibilities. Whatever you can think of carbonating, you can. It takes no batteries, you just press until you reach your preferred fizziness level. You can push all day, and it won't explode because once it reaches its fizzy maximum, the specially designed bottle escapes the air, so it never explodes. And once you take it off the machine in less than one second, you flip a little switch on the top, and the excess carbonation escapes slowly to ensure it doesn't explode. It's a brilliant design actually. Simple in concept and brilliant in execution. The versatility of it being able to carbonate water, soda, juice, alcoholic beverages, and anything else is deep down what we all want. I love it. I know this sounds like an ad, but I'm just a happy customer. I would choose it over either of these reviewed products. Trust me.

The answer is dont buy either. The idea of making your own soda is ridicules. It makes as much sense as having your own cow to get you own milk. You dont save any money doing it, sometimes you spend more plus exchanging tanks driving to get ingredients etc.. It tastes like flavored water. Buy club soda and mix it (what happened to that) As far as being environmentally friendly every county has a recycling center. Dont buy these stupid things there more trouble and expensive than their worth.

Hi Erin...do you know if Sodastream syrup is sweetened with aspertame, or sugar?
@ApinofArc
@ApinofArc 5 ай бұрын
Old message, but I thought I'd reply. Most sodastream flavors will be made with sugar. Some do use sucralose as an enhanced artificial sweetener. However, the "zero" drinks, will almost always contain aspartame. In most drinks across most brands, including sodastream syrups. But that is specifically talking about the zero drinks. Genuinely a good idea to always check the ingredients list if unsure though, as every syrup is made a bit differently.
