utterly amazing groundbreaking band that is criminally unknown and under rated in the U.S.

I saw this show in Melbourne in 2001, the only time that they've played in Australia so far. It was bloody fantastic, and I got to meet the brothers and Tammy afterwards. They were really cute, friendly and polite. :-)

Well don't let anything try to stop you. And the great thing is that, without repeating one song, you really COULD listen to him all day in all their mass variety-of which they're really IS masses of it. We-the lucky ones!

'Balls' is a really good album. No dips, Everything on a 4-6 scale of 5, in my opinion. They were in a minor conflict with their label at that time, and this was the last they did before they left. Maybe a "Your loss, this is how our future will be". Unfortunately a bunch of of Single materials went just by the ears of the radio and all commercial promotors. 'More Than a Sexmachine', 'The Calm Before the Storm', 'Balls' and 'Knock Off ' were obvious candidates for climbing high on the lists, but no. "Knock Off' was written to for the J-C v Damm movie with the same name. If you look at the numbers of comments cheering because they FINALLY, after years found that song they heard in the movie... Publishing lead to publishing, and when nobody takes the first step.. The middle years of Sparks curse.

@@annabackman3028 Hi. Yes I'm back and I'm now proud to tell you I'm more acclimatised to their albums now that I have so many, and have now formed a knowledgeable opinion of how they rate. Ironically, "Kimono My House" I'm still trying out, but I truly dig Sparkies once their 1979 appeared and they discovered keyboards and made history. "No.1 In Heaven" is such a good album (yet I have to add Noel's 'Dancing Is Dangerous' to it otherwise there wouldn't even be 8 tracks-and anything less is not an album, and 8 is pretty mean! Same with the follow-up "Terminal Jive", where I add to add Noel's 'The Night They Invented Love' to it. Best I can do, I mean both these 2 songs she sings ARE Mael written songs especially for her, but sadly they did no version themselves, so have to pad the album out somehow. The way I feel there to be rated how I feel right now (and it's likely to stay this way) is: *Career Best 3: PULLING RABBITS OUT OF A HAT (1984), HIPPOPOTAMUS (2017) & A STEADY DRIP, DRIP, DRIP (2020) all joint fave. My 2nd Best: IN OUTER SPACE (1983), NO.1 IN HEAVEN (1979) & INTERIOR DESIGN (1988) all jointly. 3rd: "TERMINAL JIVE (1980), WHOMP THAT SUCKER (1981) & BALLS (2000) all jointly. 4th: GRATUTIOUS SAX AND SENSELESS VIOLINS (1994), B-SIDE DEMO DISC (1989-1994) & FFS jointly. 5th: ANGST IN MY PANTS (1982), MUSIC THAT YOU CAN DANCE TO (1986) & EXOTIC CREATURES OF THE DEEP (2008) 6th: KIMONO MY HOUSE (1974) I'm with you in that I rate the criminally ignored and devalued "PULLING RABBITS" & "INTERIOR DESIGN". I love their conventionality, yet it still exudes class, individuality and beauty and just cool songs. I don't think they were in trouble at all, people just chose to went off them in the 80s more fool them. It's those beautiful synth-driven songs from these 2 albums that really soak into my skin. There's no way they sound bored with what they do. I think they went ape crazy in 1981 and 1982 material and just wanted to get a little cooler, hence their IN OUTER SPACE & PULLING RABBITS albums sounding so contemporary, synth-drenched and hip. I mean, come on after messing about with sort of titles of 'Mickey Mouse', 'Tarzan & Jane', 'Instant Weight Loss', 'Nicotina' & 'Moustache' all on one album, there was the need to get more serious next. Granted TERMINAL JIVE is an almost old-school sound after the adventurous NO.1 IN HEAVEN, but a charming follow-up it atill was & that WHOMP THAT SUCKER rewrote the rule book entirely! I'm with you in I want to love their 1986 album (one of the best year in the 80s for top albums by people) but it's a comedown after RABBITS, which was actually a massively high bar to set, though no one seems to know it, the tits! Granted when the songs are great, they a-r-e great, but sadly that also means gap between those handful and the rest is worryingly spacey. 'Rosebud', 'Change', 'Armies Of The Night' & 'Modesty Plays' are the standouts with the title track being about the best of the weaker half, despite it not being as sharp as it should be. The ones I haven't mentioned are still struggling with me, and did that 'Fingertips' thing NEED to be covered!? I wouldn't touch the original! Even if ANGST IN MY PANTS is not quite full of the killer songs I'm used to running through their many albums, and their strongest ones aren't quite of the serious nature of the best ones the '86 album has to offer, at least overall on ANGST I find myself liking them all and keeping my attention, even if they can be daft. But 'Get Funky', 'The Scene', 'Shopping Mall Of Love', they stop and start at least for now and just drag on. This is also a problem-even bigger for their HELLO YOUNG LOVERS album, which apart from the 3 cool singles, I haven't wanted to take. The shadow of the deliberately repetitive and cutely alienating LIL' BEETHOVEN hangs too strong on HELLO YOUNG LOVERS & harms it, those songs not impressive. EXOTIC CREATURES suffers from it too, but you could tell it was lessening, thank God, but HIPPOPOTAMUS & A STEADY DRIP DRIP DRIP is where they and we want them now. Who knew a silly group from the 'now' like FF would help get them back into it, and that FF album pretty good, and I love 'Call Girl', 'Johnny Delusional', 'Dictator's Sun' and 'Antarctica' (latter sadly not on album). Thankfully after the 1986 album seemingly being of 2 halves (1 very good-great, 1 worryingly sticky), they ended the 80s far far better than recognised, as INTERIOR DESIGN is one of the best albums of that twat year 1988 when S/A/W was taking over everything and dumb house/rap shit, plus the other horror, slagdonna, which shockingly has to be the subject of the closer. But the reality is, all those songs are bang on on INTERIOR DESIGN and I really love that album. Sadly I do not have the beautiful original copy with that painting (as price is sky high always) but I did find a budget price "Just Got Back From Heaven" titled CD with them on the cover and it IS the 1988 album-all the songs and no cuts. I remain aggrieved they hardly got any singles off it, as there's plenty to choose from. But then most of their albums get hardly anything off|! Ironically now they get 3 or 4! You're right about BALLS being a good album and it's way better than all the ones that followed it until they did their collaboration thing in 2015 which led to their killer 2 back-to-back in 2017-2020. But I disagree about 'Balls' being a promise for radio, too robot like and not enough variety in the tune. 'Irreplaceable' is gorgeous, the albums crowning glory and should have been a single. 'The Angels' (singles version) is lovely and 'It's A Knock-Off', 'The Calm Before The Storm', 'How To Get Your Arse Kicked' & 'Sceherazade' & 'More Than A Sex Machine' & 'It's Educational'- a good lot of strong songs on an ignored album, just like the 80s! It's sad as once they got respect from 2002 onwards with their cheeky moves, lesser albums they did in the same decade were being preferred to BALLS and even entering the UK chart after too long a gap out, achieving briefly what even the 1994 album couldn't do, though no radio hits, but then there's no singles market and hasn't been for decades or anything. Go Sparks, long live ya!! This time last year I knew nothing about Sparkies, now I'm a bloody binger, biatches. Let's Spark Spark away! And like their name they always go up!

@@kyachdistent1301 Hi! I'm so glad you really have taken a big dive into the river of Sparks music! And, it's also so fantastic that people can have different, sometimes opposite, taste, and still love Sparks. That speaks loud about what a band they are. It's a lot to digest, all you wrote, so massive I could have written it 😂😂! What I have in my mind exactly now; Fingertips. I agree. If they had rewritten the whole song, you know 😉, new music, new lyrics.. yeah. Both the song and the brothers had gained from that. 1994, 'Gratuitous Sax', that album hit greatly in Germany. Gathered a new generation Sparks fans. And I love that album, I also love 'Hello Young Lovers'😂! I hadn't heard the album version of 'Change' when I first found a live recording on YT. Since then I hold it high. From the 'Gratuitous Sax' era, the 'National Crime Awareness Week', I love that song!! Everything about it, including the hilarious lyrics 😂! But this is the cool thing about Sparks, it's something for everyone, and also we who are addicted to them, can have different taste and different opinions, but that's OK. (Every time I think of that word, 'taste', I think of a Eurovision Song Contest, and the Swedish "Grand Finale". One of the show hosts was a Finnish-Swedish guy, living in Sweden since a century 😆 or so back. Mark Levengood (American father). He has the most wonderful ironic, sarcastic humor, but he has a ridiculously sunshine like smile and that sweet and calm voice, and the greatest weapon of all, that Finnish-Swedish accent. It's soooo deceivingly smooth, like silk. Anyway, he made a joke about all "experts" who consider themselves above the peasants, the common people, who of course don't know anything about music. In Sweden we have a proverb about that we like different things; 'Taste is like the buttocks, split'. (Smaken är som baken, delad) Mark took it a step further. "Taste is like the buttocks, some have so much more." Sorry, totally off track 🤪. I just love how it's possible to be plain sarcastic, and make it sound like a sweet compliment 😂 Also a reminder about that opinions based on taste, is just that. Taste isn't knowledge. It's not science. It's never a reason to look down on anyone. Damn, how deep did I go?) It's over bedtime, my brain is running amok 🤪🥴🫣🥱😴
