When I was a girl, I had a fantasy. That he was singing about me. As a old spinster, I feel the same but I want to have him each and everyday, though we will never ever see eachother and have not met, Russel Mael, is the love of my life. I love him. :( :) Whatever the confusion emoticon is. I don't care what they say.

Obviously a lip synch here...but they didn't even actually have a band at this point (would be a few months before they hooked up with Gleaming Spires)...these guys were probably pulled off the street.

Yeah, I'm not what to make of the lyrics. Puts one in mind of Jimmy Saville or something.

The lyrics tell a disturbing story.

the song literally ridicules the character that’s supposed to be singing it - the lyrics are brilliant

yeah read the lyrics, he talks about how older women analyze him and figure he's a creep quickly but young girls can barely even muster up the courage to speak up to him to question his motive.

The character in the song is just another in the very long line of dysfunctional weirdos who inhabit the world of Sparks songs! When you take the whole body of work you can see the recurring tropes of exposing toxic masculinity, long before that was even a thing!. I agree this song is creepy, but it's exposing attitudes that were commonplace in stereotypical rock bands.. it's clearer when listened to in context of the album Terminal Jive. it immediately follows a song called "Rock 'n' Roll People In A Disco World" and precedes one called "Noisy Boys". It could be argued the satire is made less obvious due to Harold Faltermeyer's rather slick production and the Maels' overall lack of control over this album. Left to their own devices, the joke/satire/irony would have probably been much more obvious and biting. Still a lovely melody though IMO 🙂

Woho! That's a well dodgy lyric. No, in fact it is paedophilic. Sparks are 'cool' so they get away with it as 'ironic' or even 'funny.' Can you imagine say, Nazareth or Status Quo coming out with this? I think we all know what would happen.
