Great video Bill!!! I like the angle setter and multiplier data. Quick question, When would you choose to use the aluminum head over the iron? Have a great weekend.......
@SparkyChannel
@SparkyChannel 3 жыл бұрын
I like the aluminum for 1/2" bends as long as you're not on a jobsite where people are rough on tools. The iron are more durable but heavier. Same quality bends though.

Yep, so true. Prefer my Aluminum as so much lighter and the new 1/2” Klein conduit bender with angle setter is pretty cool. Thought would be “gimmicky”; but Nope , it works and do like it😀

use aluminum when you know you're only going to be bending EMT. it's lighter, so less weight to pick up and set down. use iron when you might be bending Rigid. never let the mud puppies bend rebar with it.

@@SparkyChannel I blew the hook off one trying to adjust either a ufer or a ground rod so it wasn't hanging out of the wall. but normally bending rebar with a conduit bender will just deform it enough that it doesn't bend true.

I bought a ¾" Klien bender a few years ago. The first time I used it I kinked three conduits in a row. Another journeyman tried it and it kinked on him too. Another bender worked fine on the same conduit so it was definitely the bender.

AWESOME, I remember asking you about these, and glad were able to get some and try out. I had the old versions, but got the new version w/ angle setter in 1/2” ; as use a lot of 1/2” conduit and wanted to give a try. Do like the new conduit bender heads, the style, imo, easier to read and after a few bends.....got used to the angle setter accessory pretty quick (first bend was kinda off😂). Do have the new 1/2” Klein angle setter and it’s cool, just afraid will end up losing the accessory (but, they must know me, as can buy a replacement if gets lost or broke, lol). Thx Sparky for this vid, WAS SO HOPING would make.🙏🏼 Cheers✌🏻

I’m an electrician, for more than 20 years now, and figured I’d throw this out there: do the other pros run benders in every size or use some for more than one size? While I don’t do nearly as much conduit work as I used to I was taught and always have used a 3/4” bender for both 1/2” and 3/4” EMT; I still don’t have a 1/2” bender in my kit. I’ve never had conduit get damaged or pinched doing this and it has saved time, money, and force. I just figured I’d put it out there to get some others 2¢

there's a cheat where you can use 1 size larger bender to get a larger radius if you're running two pipes side by side and want concentric bends, but as a general rule, you should use the correct size benders.

Not sure if make just the new conduit bender w/ angle setter head, yet, and if they do; wonder if would fit on the existing old model conduit “handles”. Cuz would be a lot cheaper to swap out the old heads w/ these new ones if wanted the angle setter accessory. Contacted Klein and haven’t heard back yet; but hoping it’s possible, as would save some money if wanted the new style and don’t need entire conduit bender, etc....

Bill, just curious, what is the angle setter made out of ? Almost looks like plastic. I worry about it having durability issues. I have seen other angle set type benders before but their very specialized. I like that even if you lose the setter for this bender its still a regular bender that can be used normally.
@SparkyChannel

Yes, it's plastic and you can buy a replacement for $10 on Amazon. True, you don't need to use the angle setter.

I've never seen an angle setter; I've never heard anyone ever mention one lol; I'm pretty sure that must be a new thing as well as a Klein bender thing. Because I've never see any notches on the inside radius of the bender. That could save time if it is accurate and allows for the spring back

I have to say, every time I see an orange handled Klein bender and then I see a blue Ideal handled bender, I always reach for Ideal. If seeing the numbers is the problem, they make white paint sticks that you can hit the top of the raised numbers with. I know there's a difference between the 2, and most of the people that have been bending conduit that I know of prefer Ideal over Klein. If you are advertising for Klein benders, you might of showed the camera angle so we could see how the conduit comes down on it and where it actually sets in relation to the degree mark you are bending to. Because there is going to be spring-back for sure, every time! If this was such a great idea, I wonder why at age 56 I haven't ever heard anyone speak of it nor use one or talk about using one, ever! I'm thinking it's just because it was a bad idea that they never let die because they didn't want to waste money changing dye cast for it lol. Personally it is making a person dependent on something that will stunt their growth as an efficient conduit bender. Bending is all about senses, and if you have a piece of plastic doing it for you, which I do not believe is accurate anyway, you will never grow into a good electrician. using that thing isn't going to help anyone grow, and anyone that bends conduit knows it or they should. I wouldn't recommend using a piece of plastic to obstruct the bending process. Bill didn't even look comfortable doing those bends. It looked more like it slowed him down. Because it looked like he hesitated instead of coming down by feel like he usually does. That isn't imagined. That's real! Watch him again and then watch him when he was bending on say the contest bending they were doing and he showed himself picture in picture bending along with a couple of those guys. That thing didn't make him more proficient! It slowed him down!

What an idiotic comment. "Yeah, let's do things the hard way because tradition! Don't do things the easy way, that's too easy!" There's still skill involved in doing a nice, neat job, this just makes it a little easier. If you break or lose the plastic piece then you buy a new one and/or do without. Eyeball it. It probably won't be quite as good. Can you really not figure this out for yourself, luddite fool? Why are you even on the internet commenting? Whatever happened to writing your thoughts on pen and paper and publishing them in the town square? In fact, don't use this tool at all because we don't need electricity. Whatever happened to fires and lamps for heat and light? Rethink your idiotic comments and thought processes next time.
