The blowing edge reminds me to the Shakuhachi. Beautiful sound.

They are similar.

I play all of these style of flutes with piper’s grip, even the shorter B. Once it becomes familiar and comfortable, works quite well. I can even reach an F# using piper’s grip.

what scale is that g sharp? such a beautiful scale
@JonnyLipford8 ай бұрын
There are several scales you can play on it. I demonstrated just playing up and down the holes.

@@JonnyLipford does it play a scale in particular just going up and down like that?

Just a question of flute taxonomy here, Jonny Sensei - I have heard players of Native American Style Flutes (NASF) talk about "rim blown flutes", and I got the distinct impression that they were referring to all flutes that were not duct or whistle type flutes - in other words, all flutes that were not a recorder, a NASF, or a pennywhistle . In other words, I got the distinct feeling that all flutes that didn't have the built in duct and airway - even the classical silver flute, the Shakuhachi or the pan flute, would be in the "rim blown flutes" category. How do you see this category - is it just flutes of the Southwest, like the ones you are demonstrating, like Anasazi type flutes, or do you see the category as being the broader definition that I referred to above?

Do basketmakers' and anasazi flutes have the same tuning?
@JonnyLipford5 ай бұрын
It depends. There are a lot of discrepancies around this. We've learned that the "A" word is actually a racial slur, so many have adopted the name Basket Maker instead. It is best to check with the makers directly. In the case of the one in this video, yes it is the tuning you were referring to.
