As a senior in HS (almost out), I agree with the sentiment that people go into high school thinking it’s going to be the best years of their lives. I think a big chunk of that preconception is that the media and mainstream culture glorified it as some liberating experience where you can have fun and celebrate making it through elementary school and middle school. In reality, you’ve just gone to a different, much bigger school. Every year, freshmen pile into the school excited to get their party on, but in reality we just want to get to class.

As a 30 year old I have something to add: don’t overemphasize having high school friends. You will not talk to 98% of those people the day after you walk across the stage to get your diploma. Yes you will have a couple friends you still hang out with but that big social group you had will move away to different colleges or to start their adult life

As a 20 year old you’re so right, the moment I got my diploma and walked out of school I never texted a single person nor did I get a text back except for one friend who I’ve known since middle school. So from 10+ friends to 1. And it’s amazing

I am so glad that I hit rock bottom in highschool because it ment that I could only go up from there. I was a morbidly obese bum who skipped literally 60% of the school year. I dropped out whe I was 16. Two years later, I decided to loose weight, dropping over 100 lbs and gaining 15 in muscle, and going to college where I graduated with a 3.89 GPA. Now I have a phenomenal paying job as a nursing supervisors. I am financially stable to the point where I can invest in expensive hobbies like motorsports, pc gaming, etc. Don't rest on your past whether it be good or bad. Always try to improve yourself, and always try to be better. It was easier back when you were a kid, but at some point you have to grow up and move on.

I’m a senior in high school, I graduate in a little over a month. High school has been some of the worst years of my life and I was always so envious of those people who seemed to be having the greatest time ever, my older brother included. He peaked in high school and always hearing about his “legacy” while I’m kinda a nobody sucked. College is really tough for him now. I was that Mr popular guy in high school. Everyone loved me for some reason and I grew a big ego. I bullied a lot with my friends and spend lunch pelting goldfish at people and hangging out with the other popular kids. Fast forward to now and I'm a nobody in this world. I went from a hot shot to just another face in the crowd. I don't have a job and am still looking for one. Point is I took high school for granted and wasted my time on stupid things like popularity instead of learning something useful. Moral of the story is don't go down my path.

It wasn't until watching this video that I realized that I was actually the popular guy in my classes. I have ADHD, so I always annoyed a lot of people, and was bad at picking up on social cues. I always thought to myself, "I'm just a geek who likes nerdy things", but then, I find myself relating to what he's saying. I was cool and friendly with everyone, I always enjoyed my time in school, and everyone relied on me for help. But then school ends, everyone moved on, and I was left with zero friends. And so the cycle repeats for another year. I'm about to start college, and now I feel stuck on what to do, and how I'm supposed to have friends that can stick with me

Popping in as a adult after graduating 10 years ago… this guy is 100% correct. A lot of people have aged horribly, going through divorce, or still trying to live in their glory days posting old pics of themselves on the dance/football team back in HS. Then there’s all those folks who weren’t super popular but stayed true to themselves, their interests, and hobbies. Now they’re thriving in their careers, popular influencers within their niche, and look happy. Moral of the story, stay true to yourself and don’t compare your journey to others. Always think about what your ideal self/life would look like and take steps daily. Best of luck! There will be slip ups but it’s meant to be life lessons and to pass, just keep calm and carry on 🎉

I've been out of HS for a year now, and I've seen about 7 people who were "popular" in my grade post on social media about how they're depressed and miss their old friends. Majority of them went to the same university but it looks like a lot of them have already fallen out. I honestly think that a vast majority of people who were considered the popular pretty girls/jocks are going to fall off, especially after they turn 25 and realize that their looks aren't going to last forever. I think the only people who are popular who won't have high school as their peak are the really rich popular kids. Not the ones who are just upper middle class, but the actually rich ones.

I used the advanced strategy in highschool called "being a friendly ghost". 99.9% of the school didn't know I even existed, but those who did thought I was a pretty chill guy. as for bullies, I would always fight back. mama didn't raise no bitch. I only got messed with a few times and I got suspended for a few days but they didn't mess with me from then on.

Peaking in hs is the worst thing that could happen to anyone. When I was in hs, I never had the looks or swag , was constantly laughed at and used mainly for my intelligence after which everyone kicked me to the curb except the guys who were sort of outcasts like myself . I got rejected by every girl I liked too . Basically hs was a tragic play for me but fast forward almost 6 years later I upgraded myself , about graduating with my bsc in computer systems engineering, extra certifications here and there in cyber security, a body that none of the guys who used to laugh at me could come close to at present and much better circumstances in general. I'm definitely not where I wanna be just yet but one thing I know for sure is that the best is yet to come. If you're going through the same thing I went through young fella reading this just keep your head up. It gets better as long as you keep working on yourself . Late bloomers usually bloom the best . You may need to cut everyone off after graduation and go off the grid but trust me it'll be worth it in the end . I love you.

As someone who just graduated high school, I can say this is all true. The social system that is there, is completely dependent on you. Not falling into peer pressure and kicking it with the group that really matters/ being alone is where I found relief. Stay strong guys. Your life in high school is simply temporary, and will fade into a memory.

I have always been socially awkward due to my autism, but being gifted in sports helped me with that a little bit, as it kinda brought me into that social group. Because of those things, I ended being a guy who was cool with a lot of people, but didn’t have too many close friends I hung out with all the time. It affected me, and at times I tried too hard to be popular and bring attention to myself. One piece of advice I’ll give to any HS that read this is, don’t change who you are for the sole purpose of trying to be popular or trying to fit in. Be you, and the right people will stick around.

I don’t do sports, I listen to music that isn’t English (mostly German), play warthunder and other mil sim games 85 hours a goddamn day, and I don’t like being popular. I have had to deal with people thinking I’m weird and trying to force me to like football and country music. The very first thing you mentioned in this video, I already reject everyone’s criticism and it has worked amazingly. I have a nice small friend group of 4 other people and I like it. We love fucking around in the same games I love playing. We yap about it all the time in public because it’s FUNNY. We don’t negotiate with haters and come up with real life attack plans. We aren’t very open to new people and we don’t let people leave very easily. This has been a thing throughout middle school and my highschool career and I will keep it going on as long as I’m there. I don’t care what they say and I might be the only person who wants to keep my virginity my entire life. Why? Because I find joy through achieving things like building my own BMP-1, making my own video game, and I don’t need other people’s approval. Also, I don’t find anime appealing unless they have historically accurate tanks and no tiny girls.

Speaking to you as well as everyone else in this thread. Although cleaning up a bit is a good thing, don't let it compromise who you are. If you pretend to be someone that you're not then it's gonna screw you over in the long run. If you switch yourself up just to be "popular" then you're gonna be stuck hanging out with some very boring people who most likely won't talk to you after HS. Here's what you do, and I know it's easier said than done but you just gotta start hanging out with people who share similar interests. Talk to them for a bit then invite yourself to hangouts.

What helped me not peak in high school is having a plan AFTER high school. Whether that's finding a place to work, continuing to work at your current job, going to college, joining the army/navy/marines/etc, getting into trading or stocks, volunteering at social events or charities, continuing your hobbies... WHATEVER IT IS, it'll probably help you find meaning to your life after you graduate high school. If you're still in high school and you don't know what to do with the rest of your life after you graduate, that's fine. I spent my entire senior year figuring out what I wanted to study because I was unsure my entire life. I didn't apply to any universities and didn't earn any athletic scholarships, so I went to community college to study computer science and run track. I'm now entering my sophomore year, I earned a steady retail job, and I'm looking to run sprints and throwing javelin all year. I'm set, and you can be, too, if you take the time to figure it out. But let's say you can't figure out what to do with the rest of your life, or that you graduated, didn't have a plan, and now you're stuck. TALK TO SOMEBODY. Whether that be your parents, a knowledgeable sibling or friend, a successful family member, or even if you want to talk to a random businessperson... there's people out there that'll guide you. My friend right now is stuck between attending a community college to work towards an education or join the Navy; his parents are about to kick him out because he's working a low-paying fast food job and he has little to no future in sight for him. He was FRUSTRATED, so I got him a personal meeting with my counselor and helped him meet with a Navy recruit, so that they could educate him on the benefits of attending CC or joining the Navy. He now understands both and is making his decision this month. *YOU DON'T HAVE TO PEAK IN HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO.* Whatever you want to do with your life is 100% in your control. - Side Note: For all my high school athletes out there... JUCO sports are NO JOKE, I promise you. You have to have an insane work ethic and mentality to earn the slightest interest in universities. JUCO sports aren't for everyone, but if you're determined and you stay on top of your grades, you will earn your schools.

Agree with all of this. I had a plan when I was in high school for after I graduate, but I ended up having to start from scratch again my senior year after a wombo combo of COVID hitting and my parents dissuading me for the past 4 years. I was going to enlist, I wasn't dumb, I was in good shape and figured it was not only my ticket out of my state, but also an opportunity to pick up good skills and leave. I had no interest in college, too many useless choices and I saw right through its bullshit. But due to world events I ended up going to a 4 year for a year and absolutely hated nearly every second, and being stubborn as I am, transferred to a 2 year that was much closer to home, and now finally graduating with an Associates at the end of Spring. Could've graduated last Spring, but I decided to look into a different route which backfired miserably. So, I'll be coming up on 4 years out of HS now, and if I'm going to build upon to what was already said, I'll say two things. One, don't go to a 4 year college unless you know EXACTLY what you want to do, and know what to do after you graduate and two, don't let ANYONE dissuade, discourage or divert you from your plan. It's something I seriously regret and I could've left this place 4 years ago and be in a better position, and I hate that I gave in, but I was 17 at the time. At 21 I now know much better to not allow that, and I'll probably enlist atleast by next January, as I have some work ahead of me, as well as some matters to wrap up. Long comment sorry. TLDR: If you have a plan, stick with it. Don't second guess yourself. Ever.

One piece of advice for younger people in high school (I'm 23): If you have really close friends, then ask yourself if you plan on having them as a part of your life for the foreseeable future after school. We're talking 5 - 10 years+. If the answer is yes, then you'll have to actively make an effort to keep those relationships. Plan out activities to do together in your young adult life. Why? Everyone will be so focused on becoming an adult that they'll have little time to hang out. It's an easy way to lose relationships. If the answer is no, then don't just disappear on them. That's a fast way to become depressed when you realise you had no friends to begin with. You gotta make things clear now. Also, actually save money. It will be exciting earning your own money for the first time. But you really need to save 45-50% of your paychecks. In just 3 years, you'll thank yourself for that. No older adult respects you or treats you like an equal. Just because they're older, doesn't mean they're smarter. Half of them can't even raise their kids right. So screw what they think and just work to become the best version of yourself. And work towards your goal. P.s Stay away from overeating. You're mother's not there anymore to slap your PP when you do something that's not good for you. You gotta slap your own PP. 😂

As someone who never peaked in high-school, It's so weird to for anything to peak now because we're so used to being in the background and not having a social life. So when I suddenly began making friends in college it was crazy because I always assumed college would be the same as high school. But trust me. College really hit different in both good and bad ways. Don't listen to anything your high-school teacher tells you about what college is gonna be like because most of the time it's the opposite. It's pretty chill and there's no social pressure unless your into the Greek Life. The work can be crazy but most professors will also be chill and actually treat you like an adult. And not to sound petty, but it feels so good to see the people who where pieces of shit get a well deserved reality check. They got so comfortable acting like a fool in high-school that when they finally go out into the world its only a matter of when they mess with the wrong person cuz they don't know how to be mature.

As someone who was an outcast and considered a misfit. The amount of people I saw reach “their peak” in high school were all the same. All were narcissistic of the car they drove, the high body counts they had, the amount of women/men they dated, but all dressed the same, sweater pjs and slippers. As for myself, I always dressed casual proper and all that, and people would question why I was dressed like that, like I was a businessman or something. Because to me it’s to be and feel professional. I never had any close friends in high school, I was often in one group or another and would fall out from time to time especially the pandemic, but by the time senior year rolled around, I always hung out by myself, because I always preferred it that way compared to other seniors who were going out to get wasted and wake up hungover the next morning. I did have “friends” in senior year but they were all the same and I wasn’t very close to them and never will, and didn’t even share the same interests. I was always eager to learn, work, and observe. I collect books, movies, vinyl, and all such while my friends in senior year all went out to party and all that other crap. I remember they wanted me to go out with them to go party, but I declined and told them I’m not wasting my hard earned money to wake up with a bad headache, instead, I was gonna continue to buy and collect books to which they didn’t agree with my choice and were pissed about it, but it didn’t matter or bother me because I was being myself in the process. Since I recently had just graduated (class of 23’) I’m better off pursuing my own passions in life while my friends in senior year still want me to hangout with them but I’m done with high school and I’m never going back again, and I’m never hanging out with them ever again because I’m moving on with life.

I graduated high school 3 years ago an outcast, and this video made me feel better about that. There was once a time when I wanted to make friends on high school, but I grew to despise my classmates because they were all the same, they were like the people this guy described in this video, and it pissed me off because they were literally npcs. I'm glad that I was different, and now I have friends in college because I'm surrounded by people who went through something similar. This is great advice for those who are still in high school, especially for people in their freshman year, I'm really glad I found this, and now that I think about it, I loved quarantine because I didn't have to be around those infuriating npcs

Feeling that you've peaked in highschool is one thing, but I've seen so many comments from adults about how much they've missed childhood, long before they were even in middle school and/or high school (especially as the responsibilities and turmoils of adulthood weighs down people). My advice is that: you're life is what you make of it, and that it's important to practice mindfulness skills to be aware of how you're perspective and habits are affecting your life and mental health. As an adult, I can look back on my high school days recognizing how some parts of it were okay in some ways (and being definitely not-so-great in other ways), but I would never wish to relive my high school experiences as I've worked hard on my self-development as an adult (and still working on my self-development). A lot of my experience growing up was hard-won.

After I got out i worked full time for two years, afforded my own place and comfortable lifestyle, then joined the marines and started online classes. Half of my former classmates have either continued to work at their low paying high school job, had kids early, or just haven't put in much effort into their lives. High school can be fun at times but accept that most people you will never see or hear from again and it's pointless to try and win everyone's favor in lieu of working for yourself

Either my experience is just boring right now or I just hate school that fucking much. It's just school but it's a little harder and there's "more stuff to do" I don't understand anyone who says they thought high school was awesome. I think they're full of shit. Though I'm only a sophomore, so *MAYBE* that might change but I doubt it. If anything, I peaked when I was 8 years old. Because I was actually happy back then.

Popularity pyramid speaks facts. If anybody above you in that hierarchy tries to bring you down in highschool, you gotta push harder out of spite so that, in a few years, you get to see that neanderthal working behind the counter at the Arby's you go to on weekends to feed your wife and kids. As for friends, staying chill around everybody like you're 'good homies' with them is better than being mocked. They say to express yourself, but if you can't handle being named a miniature Johnny Test then you gotta save your friend group personality for when you're in the spot to do so.

This hits hard. When I was coming into high school my mindset was trying to be more forceful happy and try be a people pleaser. Even when I get friends as the days go by I always get home questioning myself “Is this what I really wanted”. I’m at the end of high school with friends that I made with a fake persona instead of genuine love. Guys, be real to yourself and never put yourself into a idea of fitting in a general conception of yourself.

I graduated way in 2017, and this is all facts. Honestly, now that I'm older I can say that high school meant nothing, or at least that it is just not that serious. Definitely was a people pleaser here. I had a lot of friends, but only one or two actually would hang out with me. Quarantine basically saved me there. Seriously. It made me entirely reconsider who I surrounded myself with, and from my sophomore year until graduation, I had some of the best friends I could have ever asked for and enjoyed myself more than I ever have since before my adolescence. Then I graduated, and it just all stopped, but not because I lost my position in relation to school, but because I was a mask. The perception of 'me' that I cultivated merely was a veil of expectations others have put onto me, everything down to the core of my identity and the social roles I was meant to fulfill with my body, and my thusly, predetermined life. My ego died when my eggshell cracked, but this gives me an opportunity that I haven't had in my life: a clean slate, a story I can write for myself, as the person I was always meant to be.

In Norway, High School is where you decide what you are gonna do with your life. High School doubles as trade school, so you either learn a trade, or go for study specialisation for studies in university. I took a somewhat unconventional path. Trade + 2 year Apprenticeship - 2 years of Vocational School (grants general study competency) - 2 year break working to save money - Currently waiting until next year so I can apply to universities and colleges. The advantage is that I have had the opportunity to save quite a bit of money this way, and get some work experience. Not the fast path and I have failed a bunch along the way. But even when fighting depression, I have always managed to bounce back. Just gotta keep moving and not get stuck in a slog. Oh, also High School is chill compared to Middle School. Workload is a lot heavier in Middle School.

For example, i live in the hood and i don't even know how basketball works. One time i was also caught watching an anime involving lolis in class aswell, and as a result, I've ended up with the position of the weird kid. I do have friends though, but none of them really talk to me outside of school which makes me wonder about my value to them. I think though, as I'm wrapping up middle school; it's probably not worth worrying about too much. For the moment I've decided I'm going to just focus on developing some actual skills so I don't end up at burger king, and put a little less emphasis on my social life. Ty for the vid, really got me thinking.

Graduated HS in 2015, was definitely the class clown and made friends easily with virtually everybody. But at the same time ppl thought I was weird but theyd always follow that up with “but it’s a good type of weird”… why try and mask that as a compliment lol To be fair I had a good amount of girlfriends and I’ll say I was relatively cute, but ppl never really understood me I’d say. I was in sports (soccer, track, and football) and other extra curriculars. So I got around a lot to know ppl of all types in school. In my free time I hung with the stoner skaters simply cause their vibe was dope and I liked skateboard tricks (still do). Some of my best years in life was indeed in highschool, MAINLY my junior and senior years. And then when it was over it was still relatively fun.. up until I was 20. Once I hit 20/21 years old I was the most depressed I’ve ever been. I didn’t go off to college, my friends started becoming more bummy and kinda like burnouts and I saw myself right there with them. I KNEW I had to change something because I knew at a young age that I did not see myself at 20 years old being a bumass. So I got my shit together. Now what I’m bout to say may be controversial but this is what helped me get out of this funk and now start living my best life even more so than highschool: I joined the fucking army. Im 26 years old and I joined when I was 22 (turned 23 in basic) and I’m a SGT and have been in for 3 and a half years and I just re-enlisted for another 4. I’ve been to 5 countries, went to an airborne unit so I get to jump out of an airplane and I found myself a FANTASTIC community of soldiers who I call my family now. While the army has its hardships, the people I’ve met here and the experiences I’ve been able to share and have, turned my mentality and life around. I now have a wife and a daughter, we’re moving to colorado soon for my next contract and I couldn’t be happier. I’m in the best shape of my life and being able to now have a kid to explore the Rocky Mountains with and take vacations whenever is so amazing. I’ve been very lucky and I know any of you who may feel like you’re in a rut or worried about what to do with yourself just remember this: You are a product of your environment. You’re only as good as the people yo I keep around you. If you hanging with bumasses, chances are you’re going to be one until you turn yourself around and find like minded individuals who are determined as you to make a better life for themselves. Man back in high school around 10 years ago I stopped liking what I loved and stopped doing my hobbies so I was just depressed. I reconnected with my inner child again 4 years ago and I’ve been happy ever since working while taking care of my inner shadow.. I wish I did that during those times back then but I didn’t even know. Just be you and stay true to yourself. No ones gonna bully someone who keeps to themselves but also show respect to everyone.

For me, I was that person who was friends with everyone. Since I like anime and such, I always kept it to myself because of my fear of judgment. Lucky for me, I had a main group of friends! But when we started College, we kinda slipped apart (which is expected) but still kept contact. The thing is, I’m not included in anything. We don’t talk much but they do with each other so I learned to enjoy my own company. When I see people I recognize, I go talk to them for a bit. During college, you’re going to be alone a LOT because everyone has different schedules and lives but it’s ok! To the seniors, have fun and make sure to keep contact with those who you really feel close to ♡ also BE YOURSELF. Everyone is busy and they don’t got the time to judge someone else. If there are people who laugh at others for what they like, they are simply childish and most likely peaked in highschool 💀

I loved this video, I’m a middle school teacher and most students are super scared of high school. I’d like to see a school friendly version haha

Y’all I’m graduating high school this year and all i gotta say is that its not that deep. Just get yourself good friends, work hard and stay on the right path. Also, i know its simple, but dont do anything stupid. For context, im going to college to study medicine next year if it all goes as planned. However, my main message: Be yourself

Right i already graduated hs in june and i finished first community College semester. And i started working on myself as well and i feel like i have a lot to do in areas of my personal life. I feel like the message is keep dreaming / keep having goals and go make attempts everyday of your life.

i’m already out of HS by a year and i can say with confidence that i definitely did not peak in high school. i now workout almost everyday and work as an auto tech in a job i like. i thought i had a glowup in senior year, but it honestly hasn’t stopped since.

I think I'm the only person from my whole friend group that didn't fall off. All my friends had kids early on and just had that "idgaf" attitude years after high school. Now I'm over here with good amount of money to not worry and doing things that I enjoy. Sometimes I'll see em out in public looking so rough. Don't peak in high school people. Truly nothing really matters what happens in school

Finished High School last year, started University this year. The most embarrassing thing I’ve seen is people treating College like it’s still High School. At least in High School you have the excuse that you’re still technically a child. If you’re an adult and still acting like that. Embarrassing…

that's a bad take because what if those people didn't get the opportunity to have fun in high school and are trying to make up for it in college? but anyway it depends, what EXACTLY were they doing?
