I know it's nature - Prey & Predator however, I don't think I could sit by and watch the little bird being pecked to death, I would have had to scare the Magpies off.

It is my belief that if you were to have had interfered, that too would have been a part of nature. Your natural instinct to react and interfere, is what comes naturally for you, therefore is what nature is all about. To prevent yourself from interfering when you want to, is what I'd considered interfering with nature.

Magpies used to be my favorite birds but they are basically just a'holes. They attack anything smaller than themselves, attack each other and eat ducklings and other baby birds.

Wow I thought the Magpies were trying to save the little bird from the Sparrowhawk. But they basically finished off what the Sparrowhawk started.

I feed pigeons ,starlings , sparrows,blackbirds ,robins , jackdaws,crows in my garden and they all show other bird species respect but squabble amongst each other. I am guilty of chapping the window if see any bullying going on I'm afraid....right or wrong. Not long ago a sparrow hawk flew about 6 feet away from me and hammered a pigeon right into the corner of the fence. It then spotted me and flew away. Lucky escape for the pigeon.

Great footage. But it's not a thrush. It's a young starling.

Magpies are murderous beggars at the best of times. I have seen them herd a rabbit kitten into traffic, the only saving grace was that one magpie was hit and killed by a truck and the rabbit kitten made it to the verge! If you wonder where some of the song birds have gone, look no further!
@SuperLara0073 жыл бұрын
Research better. Plenty of studies show that regions with bigger magpie populations are also regions with bigger songbird populations. Statistically speaking the main reason for the decrease in the songbird population is the human advances in songbirds' natural habitats, like killing the natural environment cutting down trees and ending forests, and mainly the presence of an uncontrolled predator which is house cats that are left out during the night. Is our fault, not magpie's.

They are like crows and humans - opportunist. They eat whatever they can find.
@SuperLara0073 жыл бұрын
They eat leftovers, they don't hunt or kill. They chase and harass particularly Sparrowhawks to steal their prey but as we can see here they don't kill the prey, they try to take it after is dead or on the verge, if it's still alive and fighting they leave it alone. The only thing they'll kill is what literally all the other birds do, which are insects, eggs, and chicks of other species. There are plenty of scientific studies showing that actually, regions with bigger magpie populations are also regions with bigger songbirds populations, that could be for a number of reasons but considering that magpies love to harass all predators that can disturb their territories I imagine they daze songbird's natural predators and end up, in a way, protecting songbirds, which is also why songbirds don't run away or hide from magpies: because they don't simply attack to eat. One time I was hearing a bunch of magpies screaming everywhere and I went out the window to see what was happening and there was a Sparrowhawk flying above my garden's region (which ends in a park) hunting, but the magpies warned all the animals and I've never seen the area so dead during spring/summer
