Spartacus is ironically the tipping-point for why the Roman Republic became an Empire. All comes down to how Spartacus was defeated by two of the three Roman Tyrants, Pompey and Crassus. Julius Caesar would soon enter the scene himself and want his own glory, and thus the end of the Republic.
