Found this app a year later and holy crap it’s the absolute best app out there for hunting. Thanks for introducing me to this app.

This is super a super interesting concept for the deer woods. The amount of data they have compiled is imense and putting it together with weather data and rut history is an amazing way to prioritize time spent in the woods.

You make an excellent point when detailing how on a day wherein average deer movement is predicted, the hunter can choose that day to be more mobile and get to know the area better, while still taking advantage of what movement does occur. Smart. Congratulations again on the fine buck you two got together - great teamwork.

Great app! I have been using it in the south east for the last few months and I have found it to be quite accurate! Between personal sighting and cell camera movement, I have been able to follow the pattern from core to transition movement... even have pretty consistent data over the last few weeks of a larger deer that lives off my property, however when full range is shown he is on my property. Lead to two separate encounters.

This is very interesting to me as a CS major who also enjoys hunting. The patterns are there in big data and tools like this can help us break them down. Reasonable price as well if you can avoid a couple lousy sits and focus on something else. Thanks DIY.

I’ve been using Bills predictions for 3 weeks now along with some other apps, I compare them with my sightings on the days I was able to hunt , what I’ve found interesting is how some will change over the days and also during the day. I hunt when work allows me to good or bad predictions and I hunt all private land. What challenges I’ve found you can’t predict what the farmers will do or the neighbors during the day that changes a animals movement 👍✌🏻🇺🇸

Additionally, is Bill going to have a way to allow hunters to add their observations to the data set - of course through a filter that would keep this information separate from the GPS data? Over time, it could represent a helpful addition.

Where is he getting the map with the dots for the deer movement, the website has nothing like that.
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 2 жыл бұрын
Those are images to illustrate the type of information collected in a GPS deer study. Each time the collar pings, it displays as a dot on the map. And then the biologists can look at the data to analyze whatever they're looking for in that particular study area.
@asdfkhieee
@asdfkhieee 2 жыл бұрын
@@DIYSportsman well wouldnt that information be something you wanted to add to your app, it kinda seems like the most important information I could have since it tells you exactly how the deer are moving.
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 2 жыл бұрын
@@asdfkhieee I'll answer this one in two parts. The dots like I showed on the screen would only be relevant for the collared deer in the study areas where the data came from. But if I understand the question correctly, you're asking more about the app's ability to predict how deer might move throughout any given piece of terrain elsewhere. That's the thing referred to as the "where" prediction that's part of the future vision. As you can imagine, there's a lot more to compute there because it has to factor in topography, vegetation, water, proximity to roads, buildings, fields, etc for any given property throughout the country, not just weather info. That "where" portion would be best utilized as a scouting tool. It would tell you where deer are likely to move based on their average tendencies. But on a local level, things like hunting pressure still matter. So if it said a spot should contain bedding, or have a travel cooridor etc, but some guy had a ladder stand and trail cam that he was walking to three times a week, they probably wouldn't use it anymore. So it'd be best used as an off season tool to investigate new spots rather than go in blindly and hope the app is right. Hopefully that helps explain a bit what that technology would be capable of. But circling back to the question at the beginning that's a feature that would come down the road after the testing showed it was reliable enough to release.

For the most part it’s another Gimmick.This may work some remote areas, but most it won’t. If you hunt private, you can’t rely on an app as there are too many variables. Same with public. You don’t know if someone has been in the area before your hunt. You don’t know if a predator is in the area keeping deer out, re routing daily movements. You don’t know if your own intrusion re routs deer. You don’t know if food sources change. You just dont know. Scout, pick a tree, and hunt. Don’t fall for the gimmicks!

"All models are wrong but some are useful", unfortunately the same can't be said for online comments. Whether you are a hunter, a poker player, a NFL coach or an online marketer you use models and algorithms like this to get an edge. You want to know when/where something is more likely to happen than not. It is not a guarantee that you will get a deer, make your flush, convert the first down or make a sale but over time you will come out ahead. Many of us can only take a few days a season to go hunting so having some insight based on scientific data to help inform which days we are more likely to cash in makes plenty of sense to me.

I wouldn't completely trust this as a good source of intell. I believe a good source of intell is strong knowledge of a specific place or animal that's showing consistency which mostly is obtained from a boots on the ground type approach.
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 3 жыл бұрын
I agree that many of the technology based tools (predictions, trail cams, etc) are best used as compliments to a boots-on-the-ground knowledge, rather than a replacement for it.

@@Chriskelly19067 Hi, I represent Spartan Forge. Please contact us at support@spartanforge.tech and we'll issue you a refund. We released 2 weeks ago, so you should still be within the 2-week trial window. Note: we do not charge until the trial ends. While a lot of the information is available from free public sources, it's not all available in one location as a coherent, easy to consume, common operating picture. The machine learning prediction is the core feature and that's not available anywhere else. We wanted to be sure to supplement the prediction with other data you might use while e-scouting. We hope you are having a great deer season. Thanks for trying the product and we'll use your feedback to make it better.

For as much as he throughs little playful jabs at suburban archery and hunting from a saddle, all he did was set up a blind and sit for a few days.
