People often forget the insane genetic requirements for being in the S2 program. Halsey was looking for those 1 in a billion or more people at the right age. They not only had the best if not the most stable augmentations but their entire lives and indoctrination was perfected to make them perfect soldiers.

Cutscene is lore accurate. Described in the book "The fall of Reach" during their training the Spartans appeared as blurs because of their fast movements. Nerdiness aside, this is a great cutscene for Spartan combat because of how the camera cuts in and out as if he's just blinking around mercing dudes!

During the Human-Covenant war, Spartans fought elites in most of their encounters but Elites rarely had to face a Spartan so they build this myth of Spartans as “Demons”. They always overestimate or underestimate them. That’s why Atriox gave that “nothing but Man” speech after his encounter with Red team in Halo wars 2.

But the way that Halsey described elites and brutes are that they typical are no match for Spartans in overall combat abilities. The Spartan has faster reflexes and better tactics than the elites and smarter than the brutes. However, Spartans can be overwhelmed by either if they are careless or if they are overwhelmed by sheer numbers.

I actually like Jerome a lot. would make a good protagonist because he's a bit more talkative than chief. Trust that I'm not discounting chief as I love chief and think he's been an awesome protagonist for a long time now. but if there's anyone worthy of the mantle it's Jerome and I could see cutscenes with Jerome being pretty fire, he kinda has that whole badass schtick that chief has going on. in terms of abilities id say they're on par with each other and not much is lost with Jerome being a replacement.

As for why those shields don't appear in cutscenes, I couldn't tell you. Maybe they have to turn them on like the elites do in Infinite? I don't know. Someone else probably has the answer.

Huh? Where did you get that idea? Jerome isn't a reject. He doesn't have energy shielding because he is wearing Mk4 armour, reason being that the Mk5 armour (the one that introduced shielding) was not developed at the time when Spirit of Fire went missing.

I think thats true of all members of red team and is why they weren't deployed together and also why they didn't die on reach with nearly all the others. @@blacklightvirus5204 Yea, it makes sense that Isabel would upgrade them, although how an Ark research AI would have information regarding Mjolnir energy shields is sort of a plot hole. Also, another plot hole is when Jerome transfers Isabel to his armour when they first meet on the research base on Ark at the start of the game, since Mk4 didn't have AI integration as that was a feature introduced in Mk5, and even then only a few mk5s had it, that's why in Reach you see Noble 6 carrying Cortana in a seperate container on his back instead of plugging her into his suit.

This does make me want a cinematic cutscene of some spartan IIs and IVs where the IVs are more hesitant to do something that’ll cause injuries to themselves and being just marines in armour and out of nowhere red team and chief maybe all pop up and just suicide run at the enemy with no hesitation taking heads and kicking ass to really show players (maybe in infinite) or viewers (in the show or another film with no marketing of Spartan IIs in it) just how much of a different there is with the IIs and IVs (breed for war vs trained for war)

@@rewstersause6202 Spartan III's were not designed to truly handle a threat that large, to be honest. They were developed by ONI as a fast-produced shock trooper against the Covenant, due to how expensive and difficult it was to create a SPARTAN-II. Not to mention the morality of it. Most of Beta Company (iirc) was killed during an operation, and then most recently, a full training facility with hundreds of S-III's was destroyed by it's onboard AI. Six was one of the very few S-III's who was said to be as strong as Master Chief, despite being a lower SPARTAN than he was. S-III's were throwaway soldiers; S-IV's even more so. S-II's were the only one designed to effortlessly crush human rebellion, and sequentially, the Covenant invasion.

@@snowoffstream5823 thats not really true, and you can even see it throughout Ghosts of Onyx. They weren't designed as "throw away souldiers", but to handle the jobs Spartan 2s were dying on. So, in a way, yes, they were more expendable, which is why they were given very cheap SPI armor opposed to Mjolnir, which costed more than an entire combat group, but they were by no means throwaway soldiers. The reason they're more "expendable" than 2s and 4s is purely because of their armor. Enhancements and augmentations were not a main part of the costs ONI cut at all. It even outlines the differences between 2s and 3s very clearly at the beginning of the 3rd chapter (or 4th?) of Ghosts of Onyx. Due to technological advancements, the harsh grafting and augmentations 2s received were replaced with gene therapy that not only had a very high success rate, but offered much more potent results such as higher strength, speed, reaction time, etc. Their training regime was also much more rigorous, since Spartan 3s were not only taught everything the 2s were in terms of insurrections and general combat, but they were formally taught to fight the Covenant as well. Also, Noble Six isn't classified as "Hyper Lethal" because he's almost as strong as Chief, they're both "Hyper Lethal" for very different reasons. Chief isn't hyper lethal because he's this god of war who can solo an entire army by himself, he's hyper lethal because of what he can do with so little resources. Take a look at every game except for 5: he's pretty much by himself, with scavenged equipment, and severely outnumbered. With strategy, Chief is able to divide and conquer with what little he has in order to achieve victory. It has nothing to do with his battle prowess or skill in killing. Six, on the other hand, is "Hyper Lethal" due to his ability to get a target dead. He's made entire militia groups disappear without a trace, leaders disappear despite constant surveillance. His leadership skills, however, probably pale in comparison to Chief, since he's a solo operative meant to survive on his own. So comparing the two really is like comparing apples and oranges.

However, IIIs have quite often shown that they are physically on par with IIs, particularly Cat II Spartans like Noble Team. Also, it wasn’t the IIIs that were killed by their AI in their training facility; those were Spartan IV trainees during the Created Conflict set years after the Spartan III program ended.

Red team weren’t weaker then other Spartan 2 candidates they just washed out of the initial augmentation procedure. They all made full recoveries and when time came were able to undergo the procedure again and it was a success. There’s nothing in cannon or otherwise that suggests they were weaker because of this.

When wearing armor, their stats are maybe even slightly above armored Spartan 2s in terms of strength and durability. No doubt that training your whole life and not knowing anything else, practically being denied the oportunity to have any life but that of a Space Warrior gives you advantages in battle, but at what cost. From what I know, Spartan 2s were incredibely psychologically damaged, despite their hormones and multiple neural functions being altered.

Gen-2 Mjolnir bridges the gap between S-II's and S-IV's in terms of raw strength. I know the title isn't directly stating that S-IV's are actually weak but I feel that needs to be stated. The disparity lies in their lack of that lifelong training and team cohesion you see in ALL S-II and some S-III teams. It doesn't help that 343 continuously "sacrifices" S-IV's to make Chief and Blue Team seam more superhuman or add a sense of gravity to the situation. I'm behind on my Halo books but I do believe that Red Team has rejoined the rest of the galaxy in some capacity. I'd love to see them again in HW3 or even an expansion for Infinite.

Truth. Out of armor, 4s are definitely the weakest in terms of strength and speed, with 2s being mid and 3s being strongest, but the new Mjolnir armor kind of evens them out. I really wish 343 kept the team mechanic from 5 to show how Spartan 2s operate compared to 4s and 3s.

He also was transported into a group of Elites, killed most of them while he was unarmed before he took some energy sword hits and was knocked unconscious (almost certainly resulting in a concussion), killed his captors when he awoke and was then jumped by a known Spartan killer. That being said, the choreography was terrible and didn’t do justice to him or Gek.

I love the Spartan twos and threes a lot but I still don’t see why there’s such hate for the fourth generation. To me it’s a bit ridiculous to judge the whole group based on a few Spartan fours that we see in the Spartan ops(Who were arrogant and careless. I agree). There are plenty of cool Spartan 4s but 343 hasn’t shown other groups yet. Spartan Thorne, Buck, & even Locke are pretty awesome and they’re in the fourth generation. Actually before I forget the spartan 4s in halo infinite were pretty awesome. Sadly they died but still at least they took out a lot of banished forces.

The main reason why the 4s were hated is because they were basically cocky Marines/ODSTs with Spartan Armour. They talked a lot of shit, usually disobeyed orders and got distracted easily by ladies due to their fame going to their heads. 2s and 3s were loved cause they were ACTUAL Spartans who were seen as savious of humanity. No matter the mission, they got shit done without any questions. Sure the 2s had been brainwashed, but it was necessary to stop them becoming what the 4s are like. If it wasn't for the programme, humanity would have been wiped out by the Covenant easily. Of course future 4s had their personalities put into check by Jun and other 3s to make sure they don't fuck about anymore, but the early candidates are the main reason they're hated so much.

As Halsey pointed out with Thorne - SOME of them fit the profile as Thorne was a Spartan III in all but name given his personal motivations and psychological state after New Phoenix. That said... the IVs had a ton of problems. Yes, they were taken from adult volunteers and that's certainly a point in their favor as it's far more ethical... but there was a reason children were used for the II and III program. Both ORION projects before the Spartan II program had problems with both the physical stability of the adult candidates and their augmentations which were far less severe/extreme than the respective Spartan classes, and the IVs didn't escape that. There were numerous armor permutations explicitly designed to compensate for S-IVs where their augmentations didn't take correctly, and unlike the IIs and IIIs the IVs had to be under nearly CONSTANT medical supervision as their augmentations could show signs of rejection at any time, something that neither the IIs or IIIs had to worry about (provided the IIs survived theirs, the IIIs had more or less a 100% success rate). More to the point the adult body isn't as malleable or adaptable, meaning that the IVs were physically far weaker than the IIs and IIIs and had to rely entirely on the GEN2 platform's more advanced strength enhancement systems to compensate for that difference. To quote Buck following his augmentations - Spartan IVs might've been akin to demigods, but Spartan IIs/IIIs were closer to inhuman monsters in regards to physical ability. More importantly, though, were the psychological issues. Going back to ORION, the ORION-2 project was shut down due to both underwhelming results and issues with candidates developing Insurrectionist sympathies. The IV program had a HUGE problem with this due to using adult volunteers who had already developed their own independent worldviews separate from the UNSC. While there were a small handful of IIs that went rogue or AWOL almost none of them ever considered siding with the Insurrectionists even after breaking free from the UNSC, and the IIIs were more likely to shoot you on impulse if you were to even suggest it. The IVs? Ilsa Zane was straight up broken mentally, and her first action was to not only join the Insurrectionists but attempt a mutiny to capture the Infinity. At least one or two other Spartan IVs sided with her and took Hood hostage. You had a fair number of others as well, including Mickey from Alpha Nine who defected to the Insurrectionist movement not long after being made a Spartan. The IVs aren't bad when taken on their own, but they fall apart when compared to the IIs and IIIs. They're insubordinate by comparison, simply nowhere near as effective and prone to ongoing medical problems and security concerns, to put it lightly.
