I totally believe in the ‘date on the calendar’. I was challenged to run a marathon. I went from couch to 26.2 miles. Putting the date on the calendar got my ass up and motivated to conquer the challenge. Since that marathon I have completed 15 Spartan races. AROO.

I was a little bit cynical about this motivational speech until I remembered that 10 years ago at age 53 I completed my first marathon despite fact that 3 and a half moths previously I was not even considering running a marathon and was happy doing runs of around 6 or 7 miles. The difference between doing and not doing is indeed committing - more than 30 marathons later, I have started committing to doing a few ultramarathons....

Commitment is everything. You will not get 1st place, maybe even not middle place, but you win. You'll win in your brain. Brain likes winning :)

Having date due and money paid (=time) is definitely the biggest motivator!

I set a date last year, and completed 40 days of juice fasting. No solid food. Lost 50 lbs. The key was 40 days, ride or die, no way out, I will die or do it. The mind set of that resolve was powerful. I was literally sick at one point and denied myself the way out. I did it. Who can say that? 40 days. Set your own date. Do your own thing. This kind of mindset is powerful.
