You can also find a easy example of Spartan's surrendering. Seppuku can have different meaning it could be a way to avoid giving your enemy The Glory of killing you, punishment, a form of protest, to follow your lord into death or self-sacrifice to save other's lives, etc.

Though I have huge respects for the Spartans, one of the greatest warriors in history. You have to understand they lived around 900-200 BCE and samurai from around 900-1860 CE. That huge gap in time gives the samurai more advanced technology for armor and weapons along with better strategy as knowledge is built upon over the years. Spartans were at the start of the Classical Age near their end (mainly existed in the bronze and Iron Age) while samurai had match locked guns at their peak and survived just about 60 years before WW1.

if we exclude the gun the samurai has no chance against the spartan the spartan armor was bronze while the samurai had wooden armor, the spartan had a shield while the samurai didn't had one, the spartan was an expert all around fighter trained with almost every weapon you can think while the samurai was best trained as an archer who had a sword for close encounters which they barely ever use because they mostly used bows not melee weapons plus the katana is incredibly sensitive colliding force in comparison to the spartan sword and spear that where literally made to take heavy colliding force without breaking despite the era difference the spartan is still far better equipped to win a 1v1 with a samurai and even if we exclude the weapons and armors the spartan is like a heavyweight mma fighter against a karate fighter and with the physical strength and endurance a hand to hand fight would still be in the spartans favor

@@petrospago3515 Hey man thanks for taking the time to write up a response but I’m afraid you mistaken with a few things. For one samurai never used wooden armor, you can do a quick google search and learn they use iron, steel, harden leather/rawhide, and silk cords. Secondly Japan did use shields (called tate and tedate, large and thick wooden shields), but since most samurai in the early periods were mounted and had to use their bow which require two hands. But they were very heavily armored (the O yoroi weighed around 50-70lbs, and was phenomenal at stopping arrows) and their large shoulder pads could be used as a shield as well. Thirdly the bow though it was the primary weapon, they would be equipped with polearms as well, often carried by their retainers/levy or strapped to themselves. And as warfare evolved over time samurai became less of mounted archers and more heavy cavalry with with spears (yari, which come in many many different variations) and heavy infantry. Their armor at this time was also very good and better at melee fighting. Finally most samurai up until the later 16th century didn’t even have katana but tachi, which was the cavalry sword which was often more curved and longer, and often well made since it was an expensive thing to have. Also samurai were physically strong as well, being their bows were of heavy draw weight and there is a big culture of wrestling just like the Romans (jujutsu and sumo), I don’t think the difference is that huge. They were luckily just as well trained as any other warrior society around the world

If you’re in a bad position, it doesn’t matter if you’re a godly force of troops, you’re still going to get fucked over. Persian soldiers were more often than not light infantry, meant for open terrain. They were fighting at their worst at Thermopylae, which makes sense at a strategic level. Spartans though are lightly armored compared to Samurai, without their shields they’d be near damn defenseless against bow, spear, glaive, or even sword.

Lol what? By the time Samurai were using guns, armor had to be made so thick as to be almost unusable by infantry. And that was with high quality steel, sometimes an inch thick. Bronze is in comparison, soft, and the hoplon/aspis didn’t always have a bronze facing. A gun of the 16th century could most definitely penetrate both armor and shield, though it’s killing power would be hindered.

Spartan has inferior weaponry and armor to the Samurai. It’s highly unlikely he’ll win. Spartans primarily wore the linothorax, but even their bronze armor and shield wouldn’t match up to the steel plates and mail of the Samurai. The Samurai is equipped with bow, spear, sword, and wakizashi. The Spartan will only have a spear and short sword, and maybe a javelin.

@@MorallyDubiousFrog even if somehow the samurai had the superior armor which is cap because the samurai armor was made out of layers of wood and leather with the exception of shogun who actually had thin layers of steel in their armor their is still little to no chance for the samurai to win because all of his weapons are completely useless against the spartans shield which has both the durability and cover area to stop any weapon from the samurai with the exception of the gun they used which is still debatable because those guns had spheres for ammunition not bullets which didn't had piecing power against hard objects not to mention it was a 1 shot weapon because in a 1v1 there is no time to reload also the samurai weren't that well trained in close quarters fighting because their speciality was using bows as for their swords the katana it was more of a status symbol than a weapon because it was extremely sensitive resulting in a averege lifespan of a few 1v1 fights before the katana was damaged beyond repair on the other hand the spartan has a shield that is gonna stop any attack from melee weapon or bow without taking any damage in addition to that the spartan was expertly trained in to using any weapon he has a sword that is definitely not getting damaged and is most definitely gonna rip a hole any type of armor, a spear that is giving the spartan a clear advantage in close quarters combat striking the opponent from a distance that they cannot reach you not to mention it has a major puncturing power which will potentially make most armors unable to withstand a hit from the spartan spear the fight will go like this in a 1v1 where the samurai rides a horse the samurai won't be able to do any damage to the spartan because the spartan will be able to protect himself with his shield but also the spartan won't be able to kill the samurai because of the distance and the fact that the horse would outrun the spartan if the samurai is horse riding and charging towards the spartan the spartan is having the advantage because he can use his spear to stab the horse or the samurai coming towards him unless the samurai manages to ram the spartan with the horse which will be the only way to turn the tables assuming the spartan was caught by surprise and didn't had time to dodge if the samurai is on foot he is at a massive disadvantage because if he is at a distance throwing arrows the spartan will literally run towards him shield first until he is at a distance where he can slash or stab the samurai he can even ram the samurai with his shield which will most definitely knock down the smaller samurai leaving him vulnerable even if the samurai tries to run the spartan will eventually catch reach him thanks to his superior stamina and if the fight is a close distance with melee weapon the spartan will win simply by blocking and pushing the samurai backwards with his shield eventually breaking the samurais defense and killing him there is almost no scenario where the spartans doesn't defeat the samurai in addition to the spartans better equipment there is also the factor of training, physical condition, and experience which the spartan takes with no effort the spartans where battle hardened from really young age doing extremely harsh training giving them the hard training, physical condition and experience over the samurais who where mainly trained in archery and not much on physical training and close quarters combat the spartan as a greek was also larger and physically stronger than the samurai who as a japanice was considerably smaller and physically weaker to the spartan

@@petrospago3515 Only the very early Samurai used wooden armor. For the majority of their history they wore steel plate and chainmail. Spartan shield isn’t an indestructible wall, the Samurai is more than capable of getting past it to strike at the Spartan. Matchlock muskets could punch through steel plate, a bronze and wooden shield isn’t gonna do shit. Only early Samurai fought primarily as archers, and even then they were also well trained with the spear and sword. You’re just being straight up dishonest by claiming otherwise. Katana isn’t gonna break during a fight anymore than any other sword. Spartan spear and sword aren’t gonna do shit against steel plate. Here’s how the fight goes: the Samurai dismounts from his horse, grabs his matchlock m, and then blows a hole in the Spartan and his shield. No, they never surrendered to an outside force until the 19th century until their class was relinquished. In the 13th century, they did fight against the Mongols, who were the Dominators back then, and won but mostly due to a typhoon. But we can't discredit the samurai since they did go toe to toe with the Mongol army before.

Ok I'll make a somewhat long comment to give my point of view Roman legionary force? Maybe you see Spartan training was brutal and they had better genetics which would help the muscles and the I know that the legionaries trained with equipment twice as heavy as what they would use. But the Spartans with their training and genetics make it very even in my opinion. The Spartan would be able to kill a legionary, Morality should not count because it is a very broad concept that can encompass a lot and no one would know who had more or less morality. In durability the Spartan would win due to his terrible training In Experience, the Spartan wins the fight since he was born, fighting against his friends and others, the legionnaire does not I have no problem with the rest.
