Meet The Z-46! Tier 8 German Destroyer (World of Warships Legends)

Z-46 belonged to the Type 1936C-class destroyers of the Kriegsmarine. The Type 1936C was a planned variant of the Type 1936 series of destroyers and originally, there were supposed to be five ships on this class of destroyers, starting with Z-46, then Z47, Z48, Z49 and Z50. However, construction was delayed by a combination of factors, one being multiple air raids by the allied forces, material supply delays, and a shortage of copper after World War II. The two unfinished destroyers Z46 and Z47 were later blown up by the Allied Forces in 1945. Soon after the start of World War II it got obvious that all existing German destroyers were not adequately protected against air attacks. Since the number of light Flak guns could not increased much more, a new main armament for destroyers, capable to be used against air and sea targets was needed. In 1941 it was considered to use the new Luftwaffe 12,8 cm Flak 40 in twin mountings for a new class of destroyers. The two ordered ships were modified Zerstörer 1936B designs adapted to the new armament. They were laid down in 1942 but not completed. Four additional were ordered in 1943, none of them was started to build. Had if these ships would’ve been built, the Type 1936C destroyers were to be armed with six 12.8-centimeter (5.0 in) quick firing guns with 720 rounds of ammunition, with a speed of 20 rounds per minute, which had a range of 19 kilometers (12 mi), to be placed in three LC.41 twin turrets, one forward and two aft. An advanced radar-controllable fire control system was placed upon the two aft turrets; six 3.7-centimeter (1.5 in) anti-aircraft guns with 12,000 rounds of ammunition, placed in three LM/42 twin mountings, one forward and two aft; eight to 14 2-centimeter (0.8 in) anti-aircraft guns with 16,000-28,000 rounds of ammunition, placed in LM/44 mountings; two quadruple 53.3-centimeter (21.0 in) torpedo tubes (8-12 rounds); and 60 mines with four depth charge launchers.

Put Sa Zhenbing on as an inspiration. Will increase the pen angles _significantly_ for the AP. As you said, flat broadside DDs will over pen, but as soon as they angle you can dev strike most DDs in a couple salvos. 👍

For this destroyer the best commander is Spee. Because it gives less than 60 seconds torpedo reload.

Dear Spartan, I think you revealed something about the Z-46 without fully realizing it...I'll explain. The Z-46 is literally designed to be a Cerebral Assassin. I'm clearly and shamelessly borrowing that term from the WWE wrestler known as HHH but I think it may apply to the Z-46 as well. It's guns punch a bit less but they start fires...fires are distracting, especially on DD's with limited or no heals, distractions impact a player's concentration and agenda in a match and fires will eventually prove terminal...hence Cerebral Assassin. Throw in Blue Furiora as the primary commander and use that mosquito skill which is designed to create permanent-floods quicker due to the faster re-load...what ya don't get on initial damage will be rewarded in a possible perma flood...if not...chipping away with fast-loading torpeedies can disrupt the rhythm of an enemy player because, they have to dodge more often and when ya do that, you're likely exposing a broadside to the enemy more often....the Cerebral Assassin strikes again. The Z-46 can get inside one's brain... Ive had the Z-46 for about two weeks. I got the concealment down to a surprising 4.9 km's. That's just a .1 better than your build so it's not earth-shatteringly different but as you showcased in this video, the concealment is outstanding...like an Assassin. I encourage you to give the Z-46 a serious go, with Blue Furiora at your leisure. You may find yourself liking this ship even more, it's a Cerebral Assassin out there, but that's just me. Cheers!😮

Sparty! I recently decided to grind out the German destroyer line, and really enjoyed it. I have just unlocked the Z-23 and am now aiming for this one. I never got that flag - it's a pity they don't let community contributors design their own individual flags, that we the followers could get them too and literally, fly the flag.

The Z followed by a number isn’t the full name of the ship, for example, Z21 was named after the man who saved the SMS Seydlitz from sinking by flooding her rear magazine. Also, Maass is Z1

All the German destroyers had names but the Z and number is just their official designation/hull number, similar to how US destroyers are DD and then a number. The Z stand for Zerstörer which is German for destroyer just like DD is short for destroyers, so it's not the Germans being lazy with naming but the WG devs.

Early German Destroyers like Z-1, Z-2, Z-3, etc. we’re named after German sailors and officers killed in WWI. Later vessels just used numbers.

Two things this ship over Sumner is Hydro and u have a free concealment inspiration using bay, you can even use his new trait torpedo royale to fast and hard hitting torps, nice video.

I don’t use Bay on this boat, but I got it down to 4.9km concealment, and torpedo range up to 11.4km, I use as half gun boat half gun boat, she’s a mix for me, and I do well with the set up I have.

The way I use the Z-46 is with the commander Blue Furious who I have at rank 15 and use the skills mosquito brutes, look at me now, back in stock or perceptive (depends on how I feel I want to play the ship), destroy or be destroyed, with the unstoppable legendary perk(my legendary perk is only rank 1). With Erich bey and Bruce Fraser as inspirations. My mods on the ship are aiming system mod 1, propulsion mod 2, concealment system mod 1, and torpedo launchers mod 3. My ship stats are hp 19900, range of guns 10.7 with 4 sec reload, torpedo damage 8640 with a 44.1 reload,max speed is 42.8kt without boost,and a detectability of 5.3 I have a 56%win rate on it with 120 battles played in the ship.

Hi Spartan, I had a question, is there another way to unlock the American destroyer commander William Halsey without grinding 900,000 commander XP when I'm only getting about 2k a battle? I tend to just suck at this, seems so many other players are just in a whole nother league and they wipe me out like the little turd burglars they are when I'm also grinding the American destroyer tech tree to unlock the Sumner. My aim is to unlock that ship and have Halsey as it's commander as one of his skills is reduced reload time which on destroyers is already only seconds already.

I liked the entire German DD line. You have to be ok with the jack of all trades master of none playstyle. The guns are...ok, the torps are eh ok too. The lines strength is no glaring weaknesses.
