Another detail that fits with it, the Krieg's are rumored to be considerably younger on average than other guardsman units, which really fits with the line "they were under 25" The real stormtroopers were also comprised of the best men from other units and in a similar idea, given the radioactive, trench warfare coated hellscape they come from and their planets only goal to provide men for the wars, they would have some very capable and VERY hardened soldiers in their units.

It would be awesome to see a movie about a death korps battle (that takes place over months). They keep their helmets and respirators on (halo, take note) and after all the heroic fighting, it ends with the commencement of another siege and entrenchment, but this time, our protag wants to see the face of his closest friend with his own eyes and so he takes off his helmet only to see his own face. There are actually two Imperial Guard regiments based on the Russian Army--the Vostroyan Firstborn (based on the Imperial Russian Army of WWI and Cossacks), and the Valhalla Ice Warriors (based on the Red Army in WWII). Second, _every_ army still issues entrenching tools and bayonets. It's not just the Russian army. Most armies also manage to keep their troops well-supplied with ammo, food, and spare parts, though.

The thing that took me out of this was figuring out if the SM at 1:53 was a salamander or a dark angel . I think its a dark angel mainly because he doesn't have a flamer.

The year is 42 thousand, and the hundreds-of-years part of the date is a matter of where you're measuring from. Humanity has been a spacefaring species for at minimum 30,000 years. As a result, warfare we IRL know to be 'conventional' has had plenty - and I mean PLENTY - of time for refinement. The Death Korps are a regiment type tithed to the Imperium of Man from the planet of Krieg. German as a language is long, long dead, just like English, so planets' names meaning in languages we recognize are "vanished into history". For comparison of just how displaced things are, to the Imperium of Man (galaxy-spanning empire) we IRL are somewhere like what the Sumerians are to us. The Death Korps of Krieg are attrition warfare specialized, and so the closest comparison we have for them is our WWI. Not only are there full-auto laser weapons and advanced tanks, you really need to be aware that ships in orbit supporting a battle are what makes ground armies not able to be swacked by that ultimate high ground. There simply exist targets that can't be taken down by big guns alone. Or, it makes no sense to spend/risk very big, very precious warmachines to wreck them. There simply are some days when nothing gets the job of wrecking something done as well as a strike at zero hour with overwhelming firepower by a shock-troop infiltration. It's pretty stupid to say the Kriegsmen are the only siege warfare experts of the Imperium. But I'll just say, even Holy Terra - the blessed cradle of the human race - looks on Krieg very fondly. The Death Korps have made their home **galactically** famous for the quality of their regiments they pay their tithe to the Imperium with. And so, they have met the golden standard that is warranted by all sons of our homeworld.

@@ZFire2020 your right, death korp is based on ww1. They embody every nation of ww1. As there gear is a mix of it all. Helment french and german, coat french, shovel and bayonet is german, and gas mask I am pretty sure is a mix of British and American I think.
